Service Charge Without Informing Customers
Went yesterday as part of a meet-up group. Ordered a coke at the bar and, before showing the receipt, the barman gave me the card terminal to pay. It was only afterwards that I noticed a service charge. I questioned the barman about it and he said it was a service charge that they just add.
I told him that it's a discretionary charge and he should have told me before charging my card or showed me the receipt in advance - which he didn't.
I asked to speak with the manager and then the barman said he had shown the receipt which was false.
The manager refused to refund the tip saying that it would take several days.
I then asked other people in the meetup group and they had all been charged a service charge without their knowledge.
This goes against the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations.
Beware of this practice in this place!
Not going again.
