Absolutely Appalling Experience – Treated with Disrespect After Buying a £52,000 Car
Date of Experience: 14–21 March 2025
I had an absolutely horrific experience with Vospers CUPRA SEAT Plymouth, and it pains me to say this happened while purchasing a £52,000 brand-new limited edition Cupra Terramar First Edition in Dark Void — the most expensive car in their showroom.
Being based in London, I had no choice but to deal with this dealership as they were the only one with this spec in the UK. I called on 14th March 2025 and spoke with Adrian Gunner. He sounded friendly at first, encouraged me to place a deposit over the phone, and told me the car was available. Despite not having seen any photos or videos of the car, I trusted them and placed the deposit the same day.
From that moment on, everything went downhill.
Adrian’s communication dropped off completely. I was left constantly chasing him for updates — a frustrating and unacceptable experience for any customer, let alone someone spending over £50K on a new car. We had some minor teething issues with the insurance, and instead of helping, Adrian tells me:
“This is all too much, we might just cancel the sale.”
Highly unprofessional. I had to escalate to his manager David, who gave me one brief piece of advice that helped — but let me be clear: David wasn’t great either. He seemed uninterested in the bigger picture and shrugged off serious issues like both sets of keys being deeply dented, even though the vehicle was brand new with under 30 miles.
On collection day (21st March), my disabled father and I made a 4–5 hour journey from London to Plymouth. When we arrived, the car was covered in thick dust — clearly not prepped properly for handover. I raised this with Adrian and was met with more rudeness and arrogance.
His exact response was:
“Ok, we’ll wait for the detailers to clean it to your satisfaction.”
There was no apology, no concern — just attitude. When I contacted David again, Adrian became spiteful, saying:
“We won’t proceed with the sale because you’re complaining to David.”
It was like he was playing games with us, knowing we had no other options. The emotional manipulation and blatant disrespect were shocking.
Even at the final stage, Adrian continued to mess things up:
Provided the wrong number for the insurance company.
Entered the incorrect mileage on the invoice.
Didn’t know how to check the car’s mileage.
Gave us two dented key fobs — on a brand new car.
We were disrespected, mistreated, and emotionally exhausted by the end of it. The whole experience felt degrading, and I honestly left wondering if race played a role — as an Asian Indian family, we were made to feel like we weren’t worth their time or care.
I would never, ever recommend this dealership to anyone. If I could rate lower than 1 star, I would.
Avoid Vospers CUPRA SEAT Plymouth at all costs.
