Financial support through ill health for workers

I cannot fault the income insurance I took with this company.
I have worked full-time for 40+ years, up until last year I had taken less than 10 days off sick in that time. My workplace at the time did not pay sick pay so I took out this insurance of around £30 per month. Initially I begrudged paying it thinking I wouldn't need it.
In August 24 I suffered a very nasty ankle injury, fractured in 2 places and dislocated. I had surgery to fit a metal fixator and spent 5 days in hospital. I thought I would be back to work in 8wks! It was 5 months!
I completed some forms with the Wessex Group, sent screenshots of my hospital discharge letter. Directly after my 30 day waiting period I was paid, I sent copies of my sicknote each month and have always received the payments on time. I have never had to chase.
I have now begun a return to work and still receive a partial payment. I would have really struggled without the insurance. I would recommend to anyone who works. You never know whats round the corner.

What a waste of money and no assurance

I took out redundancy insurance 6 years ago in view tgat employment can be volatile now. I took this out to top up any redundancy to ensure I could match my expenses and not risk losing my house ir fall behind on any bills. In October I was made redundant. I spent the first month looking for jobs with several interviews but these led to nothing. I began my application as there is a period of 60 days excess. Only now I've been told that my claim will start after my pay in lieu finishes plus 30 days IF I'm eligible, so 6 months after I lost my job. By this stage I could be in debt, have lost my home etc. The whole point was to give me a cushion while I found employment. I've also had to claim benefits in order to satisfy them. It's not even guaranteed they'll pay then.
If by March I have a job I won't be renewing my insurance as its not fit for purpose

Avoid this company at any cost

Avoid this company at any cost. After paying lifestyle (redundancy) insurance of £80+ per month for 5 year I was made redundant. It was standard redundancy supported with all the necessary documentation. 7 month on after asking for endless documentation, proof of unemployment form the government etc, even when all was provided, the Wessex group found a way to let me know info not qualify because of some nonsensical rule in their t&cs.

Being redundant is stressful enough and people take insurance for comfort and ease of the stress. Sadly the Wessex group just added more stress and wasted time to it.

Terrible experience.

This company are a bunch of cowboys and…

This company are a bunch of cowboys and conmen Do not do business with them. Been with this company for 11 Solid years with a Mortgage Protection Insurance, (Iprotect) which should cover Accident, Sickness, Unemployment from work. Note I said should. Well was made redundant July 2023 and put a claim through. Signed up for Universal Credit as instructed. Provided evidence of Redundancy, Mortgage Statement, Bank Statement etc. All that they asked for. Was going to plan and they requested proof of Residency and then was told will payout. They then decided to move the goal posts because I made an ill informed error and told them I would be out of the country on Holiday. Yes I booked a holiday because I managed to get a job but couldn't start until month later. I deserved a holiday. If i told them I was in a cafe and not an airport , it may have made a difference. There reason for not paying out was, your out of the country and therfore not actively looking for work. Use your common sense, I had a job and decided to take a break. That holiday period they said could not be taken into account. Now, because the.policy pays out up to 30 days, they wouldn't be paying. What a load of nonsense and just typical of this company. They want your money and nothing else. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE, you have been warned. If this company replies to this review, believe me, u less your prepared to do the honrable and right thing and payout, don't bother. You have extremely upset a valued customer. I will come down hard on you and make sure others do not suffer like I have. You deserve to liquidate
