Questioning the quality of the Whisperkool Slimline series

I have owned 2 Whisperkool units - the 1st (Slimline 2500) cooled my cellar for 6 ½ yrs then it died. The 2nd, (Slimline LS) cooled my cellar for 3 ½ yrs then died. The Slimline LS died a few weeks ago. My cellar is 105 cf , Whisperkool currently advertises the LS to cool approximately 300 – 650 cf. My cellar is 100% interior in my house, built inside a closet. There are no exterior walls to it. It draws air that always ranges between 68 - 72 degrees. When I converted the closet to a cellar, I insulated all the walls and ceiling with traditional home insulation made to go between 2x4 studs. The floor is concrete. It has a solid wood door that is sealed on all 4 door jams and it has a rubber weather seal on the bottom. Inside the cellar are traditional wine racks that hold about 180 bottles, all open to the interior space. There are no glass enclosures or structures in the cellar. I inspected both units ongoing and the filter cleaned regularly.

After the 2nd cooling unit failed, I started questioning the quality of Whisperkool. An average of a 5 yr life does not make sense to me. My refrigerator, AC unit and freezer all last significantly longer. Why doesn’t my Whisperkool last. In researching this question, I learned that shorter life cycles for wine chilling units suggest poor maintenance and/or lower quality equipment. As stated above, I did ongoing maintenance!!!

The tech group at Wine Cellar HQ (where I purchase the LS) took me through a Q&A process recently with the objective of trying to troubleshoot. Through multiple emails and sending them a few pictures of my cellar, they determined the problem likely to be insulation and my cellar door. This conclusion did not seem logical so I had a general contractor come to my house. This guy, having 30+ yrs experience, was very surprised to hear my issues were related to insulation and my door. I am now at a crossroads as what to do next inside my cellar. My wife and I really enjoy our red wine and we desire to properly care for it.

I purchased a Whisperkool SC Pro 4000…

I purchased a Whisperkool SC Pro 4000 wine cooler and have been extremely disappointed with the noise level performance of the unit. Whisperkool represents that the unit operates at 50-55 dBA and they have actually produced a youtube video showing the unit running at 52.7 dBA. As it turns out the unit actual runs at 60-70 dBA, up to 50% louder than what the manufacturer has stated. I’ve had multiple interactions with the manufacturer, just to be told, sorry it is what it is. These units cost approx. $3500 which is quite an investment to be told, yes we lied about the units performance but thank you for the money. Beware of WhisperKool.

Bought a brand new CellarCool CX4400

Bought a brand new CellarCool CX4400. 4 months in, the unit stopped cooling. Provided numerous pictures and information to the company for warranty purposes. It was installed correctly and plenty of air flow. They claim it was not and denied warranty. Very very sneaky, the unit clearly was defective. I wont be doing business with any of this brands companies ever again.

I have the WhisperKool Extreme ti 3500…

I have the WhisperKool Extreme ti 3500 and it was installed almost 3 years ago. The compressor is already broken and the unit is not keeping the cellar cool. The technician is recommending to buy a whole new unit. This is a terrible unit to not even last 3 years based on the price you pay. I do not recommend Whisperkool at all. They only provide a warranty for 2 years.

The fact that someone got back to me with an honest answer. It was not the answer I wanted but at least I can make arrangements to do something temporary until my product will ship.

Customer service has been poor or non existant. Our installers have tried to get answers and all they get is the run around. I have searched for so called experts and no one wants to work on these

We have already replaced one faulty unit and now the second is failing and it is 7 months old. Will not cool the wine room. We are setting at 65 tonight in the wine room...house a/c can do better than this unit...your experts never call back and refer us to someone else. We have used your company in the past and never had an issue...we can't seem to get any answers on why this unit cannot keep our cellar cold. The lack of response and information has been extremely poor.

DO NOT buy their WhisperKOOL 8000…

DO NOT buy their WhisperKOOL 8000 ductless ceiling mounted unit!! I'd like to give it a zero star, but I don't have this option. This Whisperkool 8000 ceiling mounted unit equipment is total junk, no one should ever buy one and Whisperkool isn't willing to step up. TERRIBLE. It went into service in the Fall of 2001, and since then we have replaced the condenser pump twice and now it needs a 3rd one, six months after the last replacement. And of course, Whisperkool only warranties the first one, NONE of the replacements. I also had to replace the wine cooler compressor with new LL Dryer in 2022, and Whisperkool wouldn't warranty it because the HVAC company bought it when we started construction on the house and that's when Whisperkool starts its clock, NOT when it's put into service. My HVAC Co has installed 3 of these and they are ALL having the same problem. So if you're building a nice wine cellar, forget the Whisperkool hype and advertising and get a real A/C unit, not this.

Whisperkool Excellent Personable Customer Support

I called Whisperkool's 1800 customer support line and to my pleasant surprise was immediately talking with an excellent, personable person (yes, not a machine). And not only that, but this person is actually knowledgeable and helpful to resolve the issue. Cindi was able to pull up my file immediately, understood the issue I described and pointed me to a local certified field maintenance person who specializes in my unit, and who I was able to reach within minutes. This is what Customer Service should be! Thank you Cindi and Whisperkool!

Shipped wrong product

Jennifer who handled our issue did an amazing job. I reported receiving the SP2000 but ordered the SP 4000 which the enclosed invoice stated. In two days she shipped and I received the ordered SP4000 in GA! Special thanks to her efforts! However the Returning SP2000 still sits on my porch awaiting pickup! First it was scheduled with FedX but they never came . Then it was scheduled with another carrier AIT and now they haven’t picked it up! I even called and they acknowledged but again never showed for pick up! Still sitting on my porch!
Also very disappointed that the last unit lasted only three years! And I had a Professional Heating& Air Conditioning company familiar with Whispercool units diagnose the compressor failure! Your units should last more than three years.

Both of these people have been knowledgeable about their product and extremely professional and easy to deal with. I greatly appreciate their help in resolving the issues of the wine cooler.
