Amazing Service Throughout Our Tenancy
I would highly recommend Whitegates Letting Agency for their amazing service and support throughout our entire tenancy.
From the moment we moved into the property, they were professional, helpful and incredibly supportive. Throughout our stay, whenever we needed assistance or had any questions, they were always approachable, responsive and happy to help. Their communication and customer service were excellent, which made the whole renting experience so much easier and stress-free.
Even when it came time to leave the property, Whitegates continued to provide the same high level of service and professionalism. It was reassuring to know that we were dealing with a letting agency that genuinely cared about their tenants and wanted to make sure everything went smoothly from start to finish.
A huge thank you to the whole team at Whitegates for making our experience such a positive one. We really appreciate all your help and support throughout our stay and would definitely recommend Whitegates to anyone looking for a reliable and professional letting agency.
We moved into one of their properties 5…
We moved into one of their properties 5 years ago. It was a 2-bed house at £725 per month. We liked the area and needed the space, so we took it. We never met the landlord at the start and only later realised the property belonged to the owner of Whitegates.
The house was let to us “as seen”, but it needed a lot of work. Paint was peeling in the dining room, small bedroom, bathroom and kitchen because it had been painted onto wet plaster (only one coat). The garden (front and back) was a mess. The hall banister wasn’t fitted properly and later came away from the wall when I slipped on the stairs (my own fault, no one else to blame).
We did some of the work ourselves and just got on with it. The more we asked for repairs, the less actually happened. The boiler was nursed along for 5 years until they were finally forced to replace it. They fitted the cheapest one they could find and it still took a week.
Earlier this year we went away to visit family. While we were gone, plaster collapsed from the ceiling in the main bedroom – pieces bigger than my hand. If any of that had hit our 7-month-old son he would have been in hospital. When we raised it, their response was basically “you have a spare room, sleep there.” No apology, no concern for the baby, no offer of help. Just cold and dismissive.
A painter who came round to look at the main bedroom roof/ceiling told us things that didn’t surprise us at all by that point. We were also threatened when we missed a single payment. Rent went up £50 every year and was heading for £900 by the time we left. They claimed it was just “keeping up with market increases.”
It was only when we gave notice that things suddenly started getting done. They also changed our tenancy agreement from yearly to monthly, then switched it back to the original yearly agreement, and then had the audacity to claim we owed them rent arrears because we left early.
When we left we cleaned the whole place thoroughly and repainted (I have the photos). The only thing we didn’t tackle was the oven, which had stopped working properly – another email that was ignored. If they try to claim they never received our emails about these issues, I still have them all.
How they ever won “Letting Agents of the Year” is beyond me. We would not recommend them to anyone. In our experience they were unprofessional, unresponsive and completely lacking in care for their tenants.
I also tried contacting the local paper and the mayor about this, but neither responded to my emails. These days it seems rogue landlords and estate agents aren’t considered big news, but companies like this need putting in the public eye. Hopefully the greedy, nasty people who work there will get what’s coming to them.
Unacceptable communication failures
Unacceptable communication failures — two wasted appointments in a week.
I arranged a viewing for the property on Tanyard Avenue, Oakes — first for last Friday. On arrival, the current resident told me no one had informed him a viewing was taking place. The agency had simply failed to notify him. I called the office, was given an apology, and was rebooked for 5pm today.
Today I returned with my wife for the rescheduled viewing. A representative met us outside to say the landlord would only allow one person to view today, and someone else was already inside — I would not be able to view the property, despite this being a confirmed second appointment. The representative admitted he did not know why the booking had not been passed on to the landlord, even though he had a printed appointment sheet with my name on it in his hand.
This is not a one-off oversight — it is the same failure repeated twice in a row: appointments confirmed by the agency, then not properly communicated internally or to the landlord, wasting our time on both occasions. For an agency managing over 1,700 properties, this standard of basic coordination is not acceptable. I would think carefully before relying on this branch to manage a viewing, let alone a tenancy

You are absolutely disgusting and all Tennants/landlords need to stay clear from you.
I will be taking legal action against you and you will be put on every social media page in your area, everyone will know to stay away from you.
We are in a cost of living crisis and all you do is treat people like your own personal bank machines...... THIS WILL NOT BE LEFT OR FORGOTTEN
Avoid Avoid Avoid
Easily the worst estate agents I’ve ever dealt with. Moved into a house with a lot wrong and we were told a maintenance worker would visit to fix everything. We lived at the property for close to a year and never had anybody out to fix anything despite us chasing this up. After moving out, it’s taken us over a year to get our deposit back because of such poor communication from Whitegates. Speaking to anyone here is like trying to get blood from a stone. Avoid.

I had a very frustrating experience dealing with Whitegates.
After my contract ended and I had given proper notice, my property remained listed on Rightmove without my consent. Despite multiple emails and phone calls, I received little to no response, and promises of callbacks were not followed through.
It felt like I was being ignored, and the property continued to be marketed even after I had clearly withdrawn instruction. I was also told a £250 termination fee was required, but this was only withdrawn after I challenged it and escalated the matter.
Eventually, the issue was resolved, but only after significant effort on my part. Communication throughout was poor, and the situation could have been handled much more professionally.
Based on my experience, I would strongly advise others to carefully review the terms of agreement and be prepared to follow up persistently if issues arise.
Unfortunately, I would not use this agent again.
Extremely rude staff leaving attitude driven voicemail on my phone.
I recieved a voicemail and email from a very snotty tracy nelson with attitude that is udnermining and disrespectful insinuating I had not paid my rent. In over 5 years I have never missed a single rent payment. I also did not miss this one. It was paid on a friday, incompetence and rude attitude. Persisted with and 'i will now be sending the landlord a email saying you havnt paid your rent', i hate attitude from people who clearly have 'I am better than you' personality traits.

My disabled wife called up to make a payment arrangement and somebody called 'chan' did nothing but shout and scream at her telling her that she had a bad attitude when all she said was can I make a payment arrangement and then asked 15 times for the email address she need for this ,abuse is never nice but when its done to somebody severely disabled its even worse
Disgusting service
I had an extremely frustrating experience with White gate. I had a scheduled house viewing for a property in Huddersfield at HD5, but the agent never showed up. I waited outside for 30 minutes in very cold weather, and there was no communication from them. No calls, no texts, no apologies—nothing.
The next day, I received a call from the agent, but instead of offering an explanation or apology for the no-show, they simply asked me to rebook the viewing. There was no accountability or acknowledgment of the poor treatment.
This kind of unprofessional behavior is completely unacceptable, and I wouldn’t trust them to handle anything further. I definitely won’t be rebooking.
Avoid this agency if you value your time and expect basic courtesy.
My time at 297 Leeds road, absolute JOKE!
So I rented 297 Leeds road for 4 n half years, in my time living there, I had rodent issues, lack of help from Whitegates, a broken boiler for 2 weeks during winter which I had asked to be fixed the day it went off, mould in the bathroom because they couldn’t be bothered to fix a broken window, so they just shuved a fan in there, a roof leak in the main bedroom, my 8 year old autistic daughter got poorly and sick down to rats and mice running round the entirety of the house, the rent got put up but they never once did a thing in that house, I lived with a bathroom falling apart, leaks coming from everywhere, a kitchen that was genuinely just a home to mice, the door in the kitchen leading to the back garden was literally falling off, basically they’ve just popped a shoddy kitchen extension on and it’s shocking because I moved out roughly 6 months ago, they tried to… get this right… they tried to bill me 1,500 for clean up, blaming the mould on me, said I’d left rubbish in the front garden which was just a flat out lie and I left nothing in that house so I told em to get lost.
They’ve now recently listed 297 LEEDS ROAD back up for a absolute joke of a price, £695 per Calendar month £800 up front, I wouldn’t let someone pay me to live there let alone pay that price, avoid that house, avoid Whitegates, don’t fall for the absolute nonsense they get you for, it’s a front, once you’re paying and in contract, they’ll treat you like dirt, everything done to 297 Leeds road is basically a polished turd, the carpets aren’t new at all, can tell you that cause their the same ones from when I lived there, n the kitchens still a massive mess, the tiles look worse than they did when I moved out n that’s saying something cause my girlfriend mopped n you can still see mouse foot prints in the photos of the listing, they’ve not fixed a thing, don’t fall for it, renovated my skinny white ass, oh and there’s a reason you don’t see pictures of the basement on the listing, cause I’ll tell you for a fact it’s full of rat droppings.
Whitegates and whoever the landlord is of 297 Leeds road can go shite.
Save yourself the hassle people cause £700 a month for that sugar coated sh*t stains a complete robbery.
Unreliable
Arranged a viewing for 12 30. Agent phoned at 12 to cancel. We were already on our way. The viewing was for a property we agreed to purchase
Oh dear God
Oh dear God, save yourself time, money and sanity stay away from them. The sheer incompetence is unbelievable. Late repairs, unreasonable and unhelpful staff ohh and unless something becomes a flagrant problem they won't lift a finger to fix it, it just doesn't end. We stayed in one of their properties for a little over a year. I have never experienced this level of service before it is truly bad. If I could give negative stars I would.
Don't sign any contracts until you read this
Termination (Withdrawal Fees) are Unreasonable and disproportionate to actual loss incurred.
Agents are rude and dismissive.
Did not proactively market our property, then were rude about is wanting to leave.
Needs closing down
Reading all the reviews below makes me realise that I was not the only one.
Absolutely disgusting heartless staff.
Sophie, Craig, Megan just to name the worst out of a bad bunch.
This Huddersfield branch needs to be closed down. I have sent my story to the media and hopefully something gets done.
Whitegates Huddersfield have bullied my…
Whitegates Huddersfield have bullied my daughter. She has had to live with mould in the house after repeatedly asking for help to clear it , they were not at all helpful , just could’ve bothered and rude. They are paid to look after the tenants and property and by the looks of what other people are saying it’s disgusting they are getting away with lack of any respect or empathy . This can’t continue needs looking into !
Beware; Tenants be warned!!
I've had numerous issues with Whitegates estate agents, including excessive fees, unprofessional conduct, and a lack of transparency. While landlords and property buyers seem to receive excellent treatment, tenants are met with a completely different standard of service. According to Citizens Advice, Whitegates has the highest number of complaints compared to other estate agents, which further highlights the challenges tenants face. I'm currently in the process of thinking of reporting them to the redress scheme and know of others doing the same. Tenants should be extremely cautious.
Anticipating Whitegates' usual response—an elaborate attempt to justify themselves and twist the situation to sound blameless. Save your breath, Whitegates—tenants can see right through the excuses. Tenants, be aware of these tactics!

Really impressed
I am really impressed with the way that we were treated by Whitegates. We are really happy in our home and Megan did everything she could to make this experience as smooth as possible.
Difficult Transaction Resolved
I had a very difficult transaction because of a Planning Issue which was the fault of a Local Authority. Whitegates and their CEO, Chan Khangura, steered me through that and remained steadfast with their quest to find an honourable buyer. The advice I received was correct, prompt, and professional.
