Bought two books online and they arrived damaged. Contacted customer services and they quickly resolved the issue.

Store inside Leeds General Infirmary
Store inside Leeds General Infirmary. Took my elderly mother for an appointment and she wanted a magazine. We had about 10 minutes spare and the lady was just putting magazines out. My Mum asked for one in particular and she very bluntly said ‘I’m just putting them out’ . We patiently waited but she put every single magazine out before the one she knew we wanted. Also asked us to move back so she could do her job. I do wonder whether this member of staff actually wants a job. We left without anything, dreadful customer service
What more can I say
What more can I say. Shone in the Annandale service WHSmith was a joy. She kept me going and chatted to me and helped us when our van broke down. She was friendly and kept me sane. The fella was also kind and caring. It wasn't just about the service from WH Smith, it was across the board. Thank you Shona. Maybe see you again on our way to N Berwick

Heathrow T2 branch charged me £7.99 for 110g walker’s shortbread! The price label said £4.99 but when I raised with staff this was dismissed. Either you genuinely rip off customers or your incompetent staff does so!
Either way I will probably choke on this shortbread
Heathrow Rewards not being credited
WH Smith have done nothing to fix the ongoing issue of Heathrow Rewards points not being credited. One has to request them to be added manually. A complaint has been logged and has been totally ignored.
Added later: they’ve got some cheek to suggest I email them - I did over a month ago, on 9.02.2026 and was fully ignored.

Went to the shop in Ipswich hospital south on my lunch break at 15.05 there was a note on the closed shutters saying be back in 15 mins, was told by a porter that he saw both ladys taking out rubbish 5 mins ago. They turned up to open the shop up at 15.34. So not able to get a meal deal. This happens so often now, either shop closed while they go out and smoke or no ones in the shop at all.

Redhill Belfry store.
Redhill Belfry store.
I visited to purchase lottery tickets, and I was the only customer in the queue. One female assistant was behind the tills and another female assistant was on the other side discussing between them and at great length, which Lottery scratch cards were most popular and which ones they should buy. Totally ignoring the fact that I was a customer waiting to be served. This went on for quite some time. There was no acknowledgement or apology, and quite frankly, I find this lack of attention and ignorance shockingly appalling. These two employees clearly need to undergo customer service training, as they should not be in a customer facing role.

I couldn't find a children's book that I'd been searching for previously in another W H Smiths. This time I asked an assistant if he could check the stock to find it. He stopped the job he was doing to help me. I only had a picture of it and the name (a Peppa Pig book), then he began to search. He found there was one left, but we couldn't find it on the shelves. He then looked it up on Amazon to obtain the bar code. He got that and it still said 'one in stock'. He went upstairs, presumably to the stock room, but no luck. we looked around the shop shelves again and he thought it may have been stolen. But he didn't give up and went to check the stock in various random crates behind the till. He found it! I was so pleased. He could have given up with the search, but he was very polite and went above and beyond to find the book for me. Many staff just don't bother these days, so I wanted to give this review to advise of his outstanding service. His name was Tom and worked at the Romford branch. He made my day. Thank you Tom

Charging £5.50 for a meal deal in a Hospital and not giving any discount for the Workers there is utterly disgusting no wonder you where in so much financial difficulties you had to rebrand.

Disgraceful service and misleading pricing at Marylebone Station branch
Review:
I am extremely disappointed with the WHSmith branch at Marylebone Station. They are deliberately misleading customers with incorrect price tags. I was charged £1.50 more for a sandwich than the price displayed on the shelf. When I challenged this, the staff was kind but could not explain why the discrepency.
This is a complete scam and the customer service is non-existent. Avoid this shop at all costs!
2026 Diary
Purchased a 2026 WH Smith diary from TG Jones for £14. I am a long term chronically ill 61 year old with multiple mental & physical health conditions (including traumatic brain injury / skull cancer surgery / PTSD / respiratory / spinal) who's lived 32+ years in Elswick Newcastle, one of the countries most multiply deprived neighborhoods. Purpose was to record my debilitating daily symptoms to continually advise all the diverse health professionals involved in my care. Have previously purchased these c.5 years from discount stores at about 25% of the cost but felt this year is going to be good for me so wanted something brighter and better quality to give me a January boost.
Started filling it in Tuesday and discovered one of the days each week has less lineage to write in than the other 6, clearly an issue with printers laying out / designing the page format / quality control inspection and approval ?? Maybe not the worst complaint in the world but imagine buying a set of crockery / cutlery where one place setting was 14.3% smaller than the rest ??
Contacted TG Jones customer service who responded that it's not their problem as they only supply these from WH Smith (looking into the involvement of Modella Capital at present in the buy out of WH Smith retail) and they only sell them. No offer of any other line of complaint or people to contact for further complaints).
No the wonder our High Streets are in decline. Vulture retail at its worst probably driven from a multi billion investor who knows the price of everything but the value of nothing.

WH Smith Poor Quality Diaries
After using WH Smith A4 Week to View Diaries for some 40 years , I am so disappointed with the 2026 Diaries ~ the paper has been going cheap and nasty for a while now , but this year is the worst ever ~ the pages are so thin that ink bleed through has become a big problem !!! these diaries are not cheap to buy so why has the quality plummeted . I shall now be looking else where for my diaries. after years of expecting great quality from WH Smith its sad I shall no longer be buying from them .
Incompetence
Contacting WHSmith/InMotion at Gatwick South is impossible. Their apps are non-functional, web portals unreliable, and phone numbers disconnected. For a retailer in 2026, their technological failings are inexcusable. Don't trust their 'Reserve & Collect' system—it’s broken. Purchase electronics before arriving at the airport.
Their incompetence in providing online shopping at Gatwick is staggering. A retailer in 2026 that can't deliver online sales is unacceptable, reflecting gross incompetence, poor management, and failed leadership. The current team seems out of touch and cannot handle online sales during Christmas 2025/January 2026, the busiest and most profitable months. I advise on $10 million investments and wouldn't bother reviewing this company. Anyone on the Board or in IT is harming the business.
Shopify could have a working site in days, but WHSmith first needs to understand their stock levels—and I doubt they grasp what that entails.

Christmas Cards £3.99 Each!!!!
I brought some Christmas cards in the sale yesterday and I thought woo-hoo 75% off and although still cheap each card went through at £3.99, even relatively plain ones…no wonder a lot left over at £3.99 each!

They charge premium prices for a budget shopping experience. It doesn't make sense.
What a shambles this shop is
What a shambles this shop is. And with the new name TGJones it’s not getting any better anytime soon!
There is no queuing system here in the Taunton store. There is only one person serving at the Post Office cubicle. And the cashier service is right next to it with the only two self service machines next to that. So no one knows where the queue is for any of the positions. The cashier ends up calling out to attract a customer and the Post Office queue is not clearly marked away from the shop cashier. Absolutely dreadful this time of year. I now buy my stamps in Sainsburys as I am not prepared to wait 20 minutes plus to be served.
When I pointed my frustration out to the staff I was told that they had brought this up to Head Office to no avail. So they can join Boots in Taunton as the two worst places to shop in Taunton.
