I had a very disappointing experience…

I had a very disappointing experience with this van dealer from the beginning.

When I bought the van, I was told that I would receive 1 year AA recovery for free, but this was not provided as promised. I had to chase them and it became clear that what was said during the sale was not accurate.

There was also an issue with the security lock on the van. At collection, the lock was not working properly and instead of addressing the problem, they tried to say it was just a dummy lock. In reality, the lock was faulty and this should have been disclosed and fixed before the sale. This felt misleading and unprofessional.

Overall, the communication and honesty from this dealer were very poor. I expected transparency and proper support after purchasing a vehicle, but instead I experienced excuses and lack of responsibility.

I would not recommend this dealer and I advise future buyers to carefully check everything before purchasing.

A PLAIN AWFUL EXPERIENCE

I tried to remember an event in my life when I experienced more pain than dealing with Wick, I had to think long and hard before going way back to 1989 when I had the misfortune to trap my testicles in a sunbed in a remote part of Spain and had to wait four excruciating hours for an air ambulance to arrive. This painful and most unforgettable event was only slightly more anxiety-ridden than my experience with Wick Van Rentals.
Dealing with David the salesman was akin to being interviewed by God, his attitude was just plain wrong, he had clearly forgotten, if he had ever stopped to think, that I was there to pay his wages. I worked as and trained high end salesman in the eighties, David the salesman would most certainly benefit from training in customer relations.
The latest petty, spiteful and calculating insult from David is making me wait a month to look at a recurring issue and informing me in the most curt manner, (think Basil Fawlty playing a strict headmaster) that on this sixth occasion of returning the vehicle I would not be provided with a courtesy vehicle, and the inspection would take 3-4 days. I bought the vehicle for work, so what are they expecting me to do, bearing in mind this delay in looking at the vehicle is actually eating away a month of my warranty? See what they did there?

I considered long and hard before posting this scathing but accurate account of my dealings with Wick van rentals but I feel I owe it to future potential customers to not be misled by positive reviews. If all goes well and you spend your money purchasing or renting from Wick I have no doubt you will enjoy a positive experience. But please take note of bad reviews that reflect how a company responds when you have issues with their product or service, this is the only real indication you have of the calibre of people you are actually dealing with.
The following are unanswered questions I asked over and over without ever receiving a response.
1. What is the problem with the vehicle that John the mechanic told me was not economically viable to fix? No response.
2. David the salesman advised me that the complex emission system had to be managed by the owner of the vehicle. I asked how I was supposed to do that and enquired where he was getting his information from, as I could find no such thing anywhere online to endorse this statement, including Ford’s own website? No response. I could only draw the conclusion that David the salesman had made that one up. I suggested this to him in writing. No response.
3. The ongoing issue is a warning message on the dashboard repeatedly advising me that ‘the exhaust filter is full to max. Drive to clean.’ At one point this was recurring every couple of days despite motorway driving between local runs. David the salesman assured me that all modern vehicles behaved in this way despite none of the courtesy vehicles they provided me with showing any such warning, despite being driven in exactly the same manner over exactly the same route. I pointed this out. no response.
4. When David the salesman told me ‘No courtesy vehicle this time I’m afraid.’ I responded ‘Why would that be? Is it because I’ve had too many? No response. I asked again ‘Hi David, Why would that be? Is it because I’ve had too many? No response. I asked again on 19 Dec, ‘ I would like an answer to that question please David. Is it Wick company policy to not offer a courtesy vehicle to a customer returning a problematic vehicle for the sixth time, or are you just discriminating against me? Please take your time on this one.’ 23 days later and counting, David the salesman is still taking his time on this one. Still no response.

Personally, I would rather shoot myself in my best bits before ever considering doing business with this company again.

We had rented a van from this company…never again

We had rented a van from this company before with no problem! We hired again another van to travel down to Norfolk for my uncle's memorial with 4 adults and 5 children 2 of them being autistic. 2 and half hours into the journey we smelt a strong smell of ammonia, we called the garage but the time they answered they smell had gone. We then carried on with the journey and again strong smell of ammonia made us feel sick and have headaches. After multiple stops the car started to bellow out white smoke from the engine scaring us all. We called the garage and explained and the guy was very rude told us to just ring a number that was on the dash board which there wasn't, anyway two hours later AA arrived and couldn't believe this was a hire van. He said it was the injector on the AD Blue and scraped it off and said it was the fumes we could smell. We were able to carry on with the journey but again had to stop due to the car and due to the smell and had to buy ad blue to top it up. Extremely upset children as a 5 hour journey turned into a 9 hour journey. We missed the memorial the whole reason we went. The following day we couldn't go far due to the van. Even though the guy said we were lying we had used the car that day but we had to go out and buy food as our cabin was in the middle of nowhere. We had to keep topping it up with add blue and to top it off on the way home it came up with an engine management light saying we had so many miles untill the car would stop. May I add no one called us after the AA had left to check if we were ok, we tried calling on the Saturday but they were closed and had to speak to a bot on there website. No phone call back. We called again Sunday they're closed. When we called first thing Monday morning the guy called us liars, said he was the emergency contact. didn't offer a refund, extremely rude. We hired the van to get up there safely but it caused so much anxiety and especially in the children. Absolute waste of money and I've never experienced such bad customer service. I've never been so upset, ruined what should have been a trip to celebrate someone's life and instead it was ruined. I hope you feel great knowing you put our life's in danger not only with the faulty car but breathing in extremely toxic fumes which 3 of my children have asthma. Such a disappointment.

Cannot fault Wick Van Rental A+ service

We needed to hire a tail lift van at fairly short notice. We went up to look at what was available and spoke to a lovely woman on reception. She was so friendly and bubbly, gave us loads of information and we reserved the van there and then. Nothing was too much trouble for them, it was a great price, they were flexible with collection times and had a much needed sack truck for hire too! On the day, we needed to get the van earlier than planned. This was no problem whatsoever. The van was ready for us and this time an equally friendly guy did the paperwork and gave the van a thorough inspection, noting down any scratches or dents. My husband loved driving the van and we fit an entire house worth of furniture in there, most of it fully assembled! We were really impressed with the service from start to finish and the van itself was awesome. We would definitely use Wick van rental again.

If you are over 70 don't bother.

They have always been Ok in the past but If you are over 70 don't bother with Wick Van HIre, whose insurance is ageist and not transparent, after 70 they rack up the charges and won't let you insure the excess on damage, which is over £1000. Go to Enterprise, they don't want to know about age and are very helpful and you can bring the excess down to the usual £250.

Hired a van for a housemove

Hired a van for a housemove. Issue with the dvla code. No help from the staff and when I asked if they'd had this issue before he said yes but we mostly resolve it. Waited over 25 mins on hold to the dvla to generate a code ended up leaving as no one was helping. They wenrnt bothered either.... Very poor
