In this case, you get what you pay for. Raffia can hurt hands, but this is soft and smooth - if you've never tried it, give it a go! It would be more fun to work with if the ball had a way to stay together. Also, the blog tips show an inner pull but advise an outer pull. I have been using a center pull, rubber bands and mug to try to hold it together with some mess but well enough to complete beautiful projects without tears over knots.
