Review summary

Based on reviews, created with AI

Most reviewers were somewhat happy with their experience overall. Many consumers found the staff to be knowledgeable, patient, and helpful, often going above and beyond to assist with website building and technical issues. People appreciated the support staff's ability to quickly diagnose and fix problems, and some found the platform easy to maneuver once they understood it. However, some people were dissatisfied with the website and user experience, describing it as complicated, unintuitive, and difficult to navigate, especially for first-time users. There were also concerns regarding customer service, with some reporting slow responses, unhelpful interactions, or a lack of support for certain security features. A few other people also felt that the platform forced the use of specific plugins and had limited options, making it less flexible than desired.

Not good compared to others

the worst part is like even if i buy a domain there but can't use it unless i buy a WordPress plan like it's really bad that i need to buy whole plan just to be able to use the domain i bought properly
I'm not saying they should let us do it for free, but they can just list a plan / way to just pay for hosting/ using the domain i bought that way i can get what I want also most people would like this feature as it helps them pay for only what they actuallt need

I migrated from wp.org to wp.com to simplify

I migrated from wp.org to wp.com to save some infrastructure complexities, so that I could focus on blogging rather than maintaining my blog site. I have a good start with the work they provided. However, there is far more to do than has been done to get things "showroom" ready. I hope to reach my ultimate goal, maybe I will.

Unnecessarily complicated

I have been using it for a couple of years and I ABSOLUTELY hate it. The most counterintuitive platform I have encountered. You need a master to understand how to change anything. As soon as I have time, I will change company.
Moreover, the email provider they use, TITAN, is the worse I have never used. Sometimes it doesn't inform I have an email, it opens emails by opening the app without me willing it, it is truly awful.
If you are about to start a website, don't use neither of them, I am certain there are easier and more intuitive options.

Great experience consistent blocks for inputting content

When I learned how to navigate, it was consistent: click the + sign on the block to get the tools like HTML, video, image, etc. look in the side panel to upload image, etc.

WordPress: 22 Years of Chaos

WordPress Review: 22 Years of Chaos 🎭

WordPress has been around for 22 years, and somehow it still feels like a platform held together with duct tape. Two decades should have been enough to iron out the basics, but instead, it’s a maintenance nightmare that continues to waste users’ time and money.

❌ Two Decades, Zero Progress
After 22 years, plugins still constantly conflict.

Updates remain a gamble—will your site survive or collapse?

Security holes keep popping up, leaving users exposed.

💸 The Money Pit
“Free” is a mirage. You’re funneled into endless premium themes, plugins, and fixes.

What should be a publishing tool becomes a bottomless pit of hidden costs.

🛑 Dysfunction Disguised as Legacy
WordPress’s longevity isn’t proof of quality—it’s proof of inertia.

Instead of evolving, it’s calcified into a bloated mess.

📞 Support? Don’t Count On It
Official support is minimal, often deflecting to forums filled with guesswork.

No accountability, no fixes, just endless finger‑pointing.

Final Verdict
WordPress has had 22 years to get it right—and failed spectacularly. It’s not the backbone of the web; it’s a dumpster fire of broken plugins, hidden costs, and unreliable updates.

If you value stability, transparency, or even basic functionality, avoid WordPress at all costs. Longevity doesn’t equal quality—it just means the chaos has been around longer.

Difficult platform, no live support, and no help with legacy account issues

I’ve used WordPress.com for years, both for my own projects and for a nonprofit, and I’ve finally moved away from it. My biggest concern is the lack of live customer support. Unlike other providers (such as GoDaddy), there is no way to speak with a human being by phone when you need help. Everything is routed through online forms or chat, which can be slow, impersonal, and very limited in what they are willing to do.

In my case, I asked for a very modest, reasonable form of assistance: taking down an old, non-functioning site that contains my personal information, where I no longer remember the username or password. Even after I explained the situation and identified myself, support refused to help in any way beyond repeating policy language. There was no flexibility, no creative problem-solving, and no apparent concern for the fact that my name and outdated professional details are stuck on a site I cannot access or update.

As a webbuilder, WordPress also proved to be far more finicky and difficult to use than other platforms I’ve tried. The learning curve is steep, the interface can be confusing, and simple changes often require digging through multiple menus and settings. When you combine that with no live support and very rigid, policy-driven responses from online staff, the overall experience is frustrating.

My experience lines up with many common criticisms of WordPress: concerns about security and performance, a steep learning curve, the cost of premium themes and plugins, and the ongoing hassle of maintenance and updates. On certain plans, customization also felt more limited than advertised. I’m sure WordPress works well for some users, but for me, the combination of complexity, lack of human support, and unwillingness to help with a straightforward legacy account issue has been deeply disappointing.

Hi there,

We're sorry to see you've had a negative experience in recovering your website. Our policy is in place to ensure the account or website someone wants to recover or get access to, is secure and that there are no account takeover situations; however, I can understand if this feels unfair. We're more than happy to discuss things further via email and establish the next steps together.
Please note that we also offer live chat support and you can reach out at any time following this guide: https://wordpress.com/support/help-support-options/#how-to-contact-us

When it comes to the website-building experience, things are progressing rapidly and we'd like to hear more about your overall experience with it as well as the particular aspects you found finicky so we can continue to improve them in the long run.

Please check your email inbox for the recent request we've made, and we'll be happy to follow up with you via email.

The number one reason that I am on WordPress

The number one reason that I am on WordPress is that I feel a great deal of freedom to write.

I was on Substack and had over 5,581 Subscribers and Substack locked me out of my own account because I was "shadow banned."

At WordPress, it is simply the best blogging platform I have ever used and I know you won't erase my content.

RESPECT.

Great to start with, but highly restrictive when it matters.

For an initial start-up wanting something than can work with ease and little to no cost, WordPress is excellent. If you plan to build a business or a more sophisticated site, then you should consider another site. WordPress remove some basic functionality that any site owner should be able to do, such as integrating with GoogleAnalytics, or embedding PDF's. Instead they monetise this. Such restrictions and monetisations has restricted my ability to grow and improve the site, thus limiting any income that I could then re-invest into WordPress to help improve further.
In summary. Great to start with, but highly restrictive when it matters. Disappointing.

Hi Bradley,

We appreciate you sharing your concerns about growing your site further.

If you need to embed PDFs, you can do that using the File block on any plan. Here’s more information on how it works: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/file-block/

Regarding analytics, while Google Analytics is available on our Premium plan and higher, all sites do include built-in stats through Jetpack. You can learn more about those features here: https://wordpress.com/support/stats/
