Charging though they closed gym permanently

They closed their gym in Derby during lockdown.. got an email to say they have moved my membership to JD gyms for double the price and no longer central location.. if I didn’t want to take the new membership with JD gyms I should cancel my direct debit. I didn’t have a direct debit it was a continuous card payment, so I contacted JD gyms and asked them to cancel me as a member, so I thought I was safe. They have then taken payment each month for double the amount. which I had to dispute each month and have it charged back to my account. JD gyms were not taking payment xercise4less were. Once I had them blocked by my bank, a company called X4L started taking the payments. I had to block my bank card and get another to stop the payments being taken. Awful company who no longer trade in my town but still charge me double the initial amount... please avoid avoid avoid!!!!!!!!

Inpossible to cancel.

Inpossible to cancel.
I have tryed to cancel my account online several times and I couldn't do it. When I contacted customer service asking to cancel my account they sad I have to do it online or deliver them proof of cancelation, which I didn't have because I couldn't cancel my membership online. It took me 6 months to close my account and cost me a lot of nerves. I will never use this gym again.

Leaving is impossible

They use a company called harlands to take direct debits. Cancelled my membership in August, they confirmed no further payments would be taken. Despite that 2 were taken. Countless hours wasted on the phone and writing emails and I still don’t have my money back. Avoid using any company that takes direct debits via harlands.

Nightmare to leave

Nightmare to leave!

Suspended membership for 3 months due to Covid / no classes. 33 days before end of membership freeze ends / next direct debit due I fill out form to cancel membership, well within contract 30 day notice period.

They now email to confirm next direct debit due Mid December And my membership will finish in 2 months.

Not sure how this complies with me having given 30 days notice. Leaves a bad taste. I don’t feel they treat their customers fairly.

Horrible experience

Horrible experience, no matter how much notice you give, what agreements are made, if you personally cancel your membership face to face they will still send you massive bills threatening to take you to the debt collectors via Harland's. It's just really sad what our world has come to, they'll literally try to bleed the population dry even though there is a global pandemic. Money is all they care about. re: Harlands Agreement No: 35806275

DO NOT USE THIS GYM

I froze my membership on 16th October, had this confirmed around 6 times by different people over email and facebook chat (as they weren't responding the first time). They failed to cancel my payments for 30th October, i then got told i had to pay a £35 admin fee for a late charge as i had cancelled the payment myself. Harlands were very helpful (the second time) and helped me sort it. Ravina also sent me a copy of the terms and conditions stating they need 14 days to freeze a membership (30th-16th is 14 days). They use completely different terms and conditions than what we get sent on sign up, which surely isn't legal? It is nowhere stated in the sign up terms and conditions. Soooooo dodgy! I also had a similar situation in 2015 where i cancelled in person, and they "never received the documents", even though i did it in person at the gym. They continued taking payments for months, before they sorted it out. I only went back the second time because i thought surely that was a one off mistake... I would 100% avoid this gym at all costs!!!

Avoid, thieving bandits

I cancelled my membership in March and cancelled the direct debit with my bank too. In September they started taking payments again and now claim that I did not cancel as they were not accepting cancellations during lockdown. I received no such notification at the time. I raised a complaint with the general manager and he said that I was still a member but I would have to pay my arrears to be allowed to cancel because I cancelled the direct debit for October via my bank. They charged me three months membership as a fine! Still fighting and will go to the ombudsman next.

AVOID at all costs

Please avoid this gym at all costs. I have been trying to cancel my membership for months and it is impossible. I am on a monthly rolling contract - I have completed the cancellation form on the app and it states my account is not recognised (they still manage to take monthly payments) I have phoned Harlands who said they were unable to cancel and I had to go to a branch instead. I visited the branch and they stated only Harlands could cancel it. Nobody responds to my emails or tickets. I am tempted to cancel my DD but am afraid I will just get hounded afterwards.

Xercise4Less have done nothing to help me. I would rather a attend a more costly gym in the future than a cheap one with such bad customer service - it’s just not worth it.

Benton Newcastle excellent Gym well…

Benton Newcastle excellent Gym well spaced out plenty of machines. My reason for leaving a low score is there is no supervision over clients wiping down there machines after use. I use the treadmill for 30 minutes which gives me plenty of time to watch what goes on
i have reported 1 person but it is the gyms responsibility

AVOID THIS COMPANY. CONMEN

Avoid this gym if you dont want to get robbed for your money. They (HARLANDS) set up direct debits with out your consent and take your cash once they have your bank details. I had duplicate accounts which they were taking 2 payments a month. The gyms ok but the way its run is joke. Its designed so you can not get in touch with them when you have an issue. Its basically designed to fu ck people over. Robbing b astards.

I love the gyms, hold times are long though

I love the gyms, and the people who work there are really lovely. There's a huge selection of workout equipment and loads of space to move around (covid and all that). The facility is always spotless.
For £9.99 a month and great opening hours, I'd say if you're looking for a gym, give it a go.

My only criticism is the long wait times to speak to member services on the phone. I'm having surgery and froze my membership (that part was fuss free). I wanted to cancel the freeze and resume membership and to do that you need to call member services. I was on hold for just shy of half an hour, but to be fair once I got through, the issue was dealt with immediately.

If I could change one thing, it would be that the online account had more admin control so users could manage this stuff themselves.

I have a general question for…

I have a general question for Xercise4Less.

Why do you still keep Harlands to manage your memberships? just look at the reviews and the amount of upset people and people leaving your gyms..i looked at reviews months and months ago and looked now and you've done absolutely nothing about it..your members are telling you their being scammed pretty much and this company is taking money out peoples banks even after leaving/ canceling membership yet you cant be bothered to fix it?

Really want to join your gym near me but honestly its just a sh^^ show and i don't think you'll ever close down but until its fixed you'll keep a bad reputation and will lose thousands of people and be known as the gym that allows their members to be conned for months and months after cancelling their membership with you, i mean luckily no money can be taken from my bank unless i click accept so i'll probably do that then when your mates want to threaten debt collectors we can have some fun with that, reminds me ^ you also keep this company managing membership when they take money thats not theirs then when the person gets the money back they get threatened with debt collectors? sort yourselves out and whoever is in charge of your social media and reviews 100% take this to whoever it needs to be taken to.

Beware!

Beware! They charged me a ridiculously expensive and incorrect “late fee” on my monthly payments even though it wasn’t late. They won’t return my messages or get back to me to discuss or refund the money.

It is impossible to leave this gym

It is impossible to leave this gym, I have been in touch with gym itself, and both the current umbrella company and the old umbrella company. They have all refused to cancel my membership, passing the buck onto each other, one after the other. It may seem like a cheap choice but not so cheap when you can't cancel. I am not the only victim - if you want some evidence check out the BBC watchdog clips on Xercise4less

DO NOT join this gym!

DO NOT join this gym!! They make it impossible to cancel your membership by just flat out ignoring your cancellation requests and continuing to take money off you each month
