Beagle Expeditions was the last of the three safari camps we visited. After two luxurious “glamping” experiences, we wanted a more traditional—but still comfortable—safari, and Beagle delivered that and more. It was a phenomenal way to conclude our 10-day Botswana adventure. As a mobile safari camp, Beagle offered the chance to explore different locations rather than stay in one place, and the experience was extraordinary from the start. When we stepped off the helicopter—the only practical way to reach the camp’s remote locations—we were greeted by the owner, who told us we had arrived just in time to meet a camp visitor: a large bull elephant munching leaves from trees on the edge of camp. It was unforgettable. In many ways, Beagle was the highlight of our trip. Although it lacked some of the bells and whistles of permanent safari camps, it provided every comfort we needed and expected. The meals were wonderful, and the early-morning and evening campfires created an atmosphere we will never forget. The game drives were exceptional. Our guide and driver worked seamlessly with our spotter to give us extraordinary wildlife-viewing opportunities. We also enjoyed a couple of walking safaris and a waterborne excursion in a mokoro, a traditional Okavango Delta dugout canoe. Beagle was truly exceptional, and I strongly recommend it to anyone seeking a more traditional yet remarkably comfortable safari experience.
