Old Drift Lodge is truly a special place that is only 10 minutes outside of town, but feels worlds away from the hustle and bustle of Victoria Falls! If you want to see Victoria Falls, but you still want to feel like you are on safari, then Old Drift Lodge is the place for you! Located in a national park, you will truly feel secluded and part of nature when you stay at Old Drift Lodge. Unlike where we stayed in South Africa that had an electric fence keeping the animals a safe distance from the lodge and rooms, Old Drift Lodge has no fencing and provides a truly immersive experience! Our family stayed in tents 1, 2, and 3 and were surrounded by nature and animals like mongoose, warthogs and monkeys coming right up to our doors. Tent 1 had the special addition of being feeding grounds for a family of baboons. They visited us daily, jumped on our roof, played on our deck and ate fruit from our tree! They were noisy and made a mess, but we loved every minute of it! We wish elephants would have drank from our pool, but fortunately for them they have enough water elsewhere this time of year! All the staff at Old Drift is great, but it was our guide, Life, who made our stay truly special! He was with us from the moment we arrived and he picked us up on a boat, to our last sundowner where he treated us to the most magical view of a herd of elephants playing in a water hole while we watched as a family from above in an elephant blind! He also helped us see countless hippos and crocs on our boat rides and took us on a beautiful tour of Victoria Falls! Life is the sweetest soul and we are so thankful he was part of our time in Africa! We also really appreciated our servers Sthu and Marion, our massage therapist Rejoice who gave me the best massage of my life, and the chef on our last day who made his amazing chicken orzo soup for us one last time before we left and gave us the recipe to make at home! Thank you Old Drift Lodge for making our time in Victoria Falls so special! We will never forget the sunrise views from our amazing tent and all the special moments we got to spend together as a family, especially our last dinner down on the dock!
