There are no words to describe Walkers Plains! You just have to experience it and your life will forever be changed! This place is so special that my family and I cried when we left! Not only is Walkers Plains beautiful inside and out, but the staff has a permanent place in our hearts! First, I have to thank Georgia Hinkley at Yellow Zebra Safaris for introducing us to Walkers Plains! Without her I don't think we would have ever found this amazing 8 room lodge in the middle of South Africa that truly changed our lives and the way we look at travel going forward! From the moment we arrived and were greeted by the owners and our guide, to the last morning when we drove off with tears in our eyes as they all waved to us at 6:30am, we cannot put into words what this place has to offer! Our guide, Roan, and our tracker, Walter, are truly the best of the best! Yes, they found us the Big Five (and many more) in our short 2.5 day stay, but more importantly, they became part of our family! From knocking on our doors at 5:30am to wake us up, to sharing coffee and drinks in the lodge, to two amazing game drives each day that left us constantly speechless, to our final boma dinner all together on our last night, we will never forget our time with Roan and Walter and how they made us feel! Their banter back and forth, the adrenaline when a call across the radio, the thrill of driving off-road and through the bush to get a closer view of the animals...it's all just impossible to describe! And sure, they could have slept in on our last morning since we were leaving at 6:30am, but that is just not how Walkers Plains does things! They treat you like family the whole time! Every meal, every game drive, every interaction is like family! They know your names, they remember what you like and make it special for you (like my iced mocha), and they sit and chat with you like you have been friends for years! This isn't just a vacation. This is a home away from home! Walkers Plains is doing everything right! Every personal touch and every interaction is spot on! I could go on and on, but it really won't do anything until you get to experience it yourself! So as much as I want to gatekeep this place, it's too special not to share with others. So please, just take the chance and experience Walkers Plains! You will be forever thankful you did! I have been thinking about it since the day we left and wish we could go back tomorrow!
