Absolute Scam - DO NOT RENT

I booked a car with York through Priceline and nowhere in the reservation did it state their outrageous “requirements.” After arriving in Florida, I called for their shuttle pickup, 30 minutes passed with no one showing up. I called back four more times and they literally picked up and hung up each time. I finally reached an alternative number and was told they’d send a car. An hour after my original call, they finally arrived. That should have been my warning to walk away.

When we got to the location (in a sketchy area), they unveiled their bait-and-switch scam:

1. Unrealistic insurance requirements designed to make you fail so you have to buy their overpriced insurance ($50–$80/day). They demand liability limits of 100/300/100, collision & comprehensive coverage, the vehicle on your policy must be 2018 or newer, and your declaration page dated within 60 days — or else pay a huge deposit ($2,500) AND still be pressured to buy their coverage.

2. Absurd toll packages - $20.99/day just to “activate” their toll transponder (tolls not included), $35.99/day for unlimited tolls, or $25 per toll “violation fee” if you don’t buy a package. This is pure price-gouging when a SunPass Mini costs about $5.

Staff was rude, unhelpful, and clearly trained to trap customers into paying far more than what was advertised. Another family walked out at the same time we did after realizing the scam.

Bottom line: This is a classic bait-and-switch operation. Hidden fees, shady insurance traps, and predatory toll charges. I will never do business with this company again and strongly recommend you avoid them entirely.

Don't use York Car Rental

I rent cars fairly regularly and this is by far the worst car rental company I have ever experienced. I would not provide them with even a one star rating but that is as low as it will allow. First off it took 2 phone calls and over 45 minutes before the shuttle ever came for pick up from Orlando International. I used a third party for the rental so it was supposed to be fully paid for. I read through the agreement before renting so there would be no surprises. When I arrived at the rental counter (which appeared to be a storage unit) there was a list of terms and conditions. I had never seen them because they were not the same as was on my rental agreement. I have rental car insurance with State Farm and have always used it with multiple companies with no issues. They claimed my insurance coverage was not good enough for them and they wanted $50/day to buy theirs. After arguing with the representative i finally just agreed to buy their insurance. It was a 4 day rental and having already paid the base rental he told me the total would be $468 more. I asked why and he said they charge another $45/day because I was over 60 years old. Unbelievable! That was enough for me to tell them to take a hike and I wanted a refund. He said he cannot give a refund because I rented from a third party. After wasting over 3.5 hours I left and rented from a more reputable agency for $250 and was in my car on my way in less than 25 minutes. I would not even consider using York ever again. They are second rate and rip off the customers.

READ THE FINE PRINT!

READ THE FINE PRINT!

I recently booked a trip through Priceline that included a car rental for 7 days. The rental, come to find out is with York Car Rental.

After waiting for approx. 45 mins at airport for a York shuttle we were taken along with another family to the lot to get cars.

At that moment the guy behind the counter informed us that we needed to use their insurance because they "didnt work with my insurance co" - a large well known company. He went on to explain the policy that he required a $2500 deposit and a charge of $14.99 a day for an "Own Insurance Activation fee” and if my documentation was insufficient I MUST purchase their coverage which costs between $40-$79 a day"

He then proceeded to tell to me and the gentleman next to me that they charge a $20/DAY to activate the Easy Pass plus the tolls themselves or give them $35.99 per day for unlimited tolls. I asked if there were a lot of tolls between the lot and my destination - he said there were “ALOT”. Turns out there were only 2. NOTE: These fees were HIGHER THAN THE ACTUAL TOLLS THEMSELVES. Tolls typically range from $3.50-$6.00 each way for my trip.

Myself and the Gentleman next to me looked at each other both surprised at these charges/policies. We both walked out and rented elsewhere. The manager said to call Priceline and they would give a full refund. We both wound up back at the airport renting at the airport from Enterprise, had a great experience - got the car I wanted, at a good price without all the extra fees.

POST TRIP : After going to York Car rentals website the only place I could find these details was buried in the terms and conditions link during the checkout process. Well yes, they have the terms buried on their website but when booking through Priceline the terms are not at all obvious buried in the “Important Info” tab at the bottom with a link to terms.

True, if you dig hard enough, you will find the sordid details. After researching York Car Rental reviews it seems as though this is recurring issue along with others involving York Car Rentals. Yes you will find some good reviews, but this is my experience along with, it seems many others.

After waiting on hold with Priceline for 40 mins they got in touch with York Car Rental and said they will give a full refund. Aside from the 45 min wait to straighten this out with Priceline, Priceline was great and offered a full refund.

Unfortunately, it is now considered “transparency” to bury details like these in a small link among so much text/info. Many of us have become accustomed to not fully reading all of the terms and assuming or hoping for the best. Lesson learned, be sure to search out and read all those terms and privacy policies.

Best of luck all. Hope this helps someone else who may be considering car rental or anything else purchased online - safe travels!!

Worst car rental company of all time..I…

Worst car rental company of all time..I rented a car from them and when I get there the car i rented wasn't available so they gave me a car with 60k miles and dents and scratches on every panel..Then when I returned the car 5 days later I never got a final rental agreement receipt..So they charged me 200.00 for deposit and as of today which is almost a full month from rental time I have not received my 200.00 deposit..I've called headquarters and email them and they just ignore me..I guess an attorney is in my future..Just a warning for others, do not rent from them..They are all total liars especially Nadia Eliaz at the Orlando branch..No more inexpensive car rentals for me..They screw you to no end..I hope that I can help potential renters in the future..

Terrible customer service

Terrible customer service. Absolutely refused to fix any of the issues with the rental. Left a review on Google and was met with an extremely unprofessional very dramatic response from the “owner” that follows the formula for any one of their negative reviews.

Total scam

Total scam, they refused to accept my commercial insurance and made me pay for crappy insurance ($3,500 deductible, even though I have full coverage collision on any vehicle I drive. Then they went on to tell me I would have to pay $25 per toll in addition to paying the tolls. Never again, avoid these crooks at all cost.

Worst car rental experience ever

Worst car rental experience ever. Don't ever go with them. They claim I did damage to the car that I did not damage, despite the pictures I submitted when I got it. And then the charge to my insurance company was bizarrely expensive. Four months later and I'm still dealing with them. Very bad customer service, too.

Avoid this company!

We reserved well in advance. Gave them our flight info. No shuttle. No answer on the phone. Rental shuttle from a different company took us to their door, and come to find out they had closed several hours earlier. Now instead of our good price of $250 for the week the “legit” rental agencies wanted $750!!! BEWARE!! Total scam.

DO NOT!

DO NOT!! This place was an absolute racket. Our flight was delayed and they close at SIX. We had to come back the next day. Called ahead to make sure my husband could pick up the car - they said no problem, then he got there and they said no, we now have to pay to add him to the booking. Then they tell us insurance is compulsory- after we had already paid and couldn’t get a refund, so we ended up paying FOUR TIMES the original price. Don’t do it.

0 star. Big scam. Please avoid!

They don’t deserve one star, but I cannot find 0 Star. This company is a big scam, please AVOID!!! We had a over 10 days reservation and traveling with a 10 month old baby. We called when we were at Denver airport to confirm our car pickup. After more than 30 minutes waiting for shuttle, and another 15 minutes ride, we arrived the car rental place and they told us they HAVE NO CAR FOR US and our reservation was cancelled. After waiting another 1 hour there, they cannot find car for us and we had to find a new car rental. This is ABSOLUTELY NOT ACCEPTABLE. Please don’r ever use this company. They should SHUT DOWN their business since they cannot provide customer cars with existing reservation.

Absolute scam

Absolute scam. They will do anything and everything to charge you. Don’t expect to get your deposit back. I should’ve known because I had two people call to complain with staff while I waited for my rental.

Staff friendly and helpful

Staff friendly and helpful. The airport shuttles you to rental car place then you call them to come get you and pick up your car from their lot.
Problem was with the credit card hold! 7-10 business days I was quoted and 20 days later they refunded my $250! Needless to say finance charges happened due to this! Not cool there is no reason for that long of a hold on a deposit.

Great so far, thanks to Ingrid!

Unlike many other negative reviewers, I have had a great experience so far with York car rental.
This is mostly due to Ingrid's prompt response to my phone call and very helpful replies to my questions. She was cheerful, postive and quickly found answers and suggestions.
I booked the vehicle through Priceline, so hopefully this positive experience will continue when I pick up the car.

Worst rental experience I have ever…

Worst rental experience I have ever had. We paid the rental in full months before arriving to the airport. Once we get to the counter my car was not available so they mentioned I would have to wait 5 hours or pay for an upgrade. Also told me because I arrived earlier than expected I had to pay for an extra day being my flight out would be a few hours later on the day I was supposed to bring it back. They charged my card at arrival over $800 with the deposit and new charges on top of the $280 I spent for the rental. When we returned the car no one was there, the office was closed, no shuttle was available. We had to pay for an uber to get to the airport on time. They kept $364.16 of my deposit and when I called to ask them, they were very rude saying I needed to email support because the office was closed, they charged another day at that price is insane. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE. DEFINTLY A SCAM!

Extremely Rude Staff & Terrible…

Extremely Rude Staff & Terrible Customer Service at York Rental Car!

I had the worst experience at York Rental Car, and I strongly warn others to stay away from this company. On March 3, 2025, I arrived to pick up my reserved rental, but the receptionist was incredibly rude and dismissive.

When I handed over my ID, she suddenly changed her attitude and rudely told me that they don’t rent to Colorado residents. Instead of explaining politely, she spoke in a disrespectful and condescending tone, saying things like, “Who told you we rent to Colorado residents? We don’t. You should have known.”

I repeatedly told her that nowhere during booking was this restriction mentioned, and my reservation clearly included my ID details, showing that I am from Colorado. Yet, she refused to listen and acted as if this was my fault.

To make matters worse, the weather that day was freezing, with strong winds. After being rudely denied service, my wife and I had to wait outside in the cold for a ride back because we didn’t even feel comfortable asking if we could wait inside.

York Rental Car owes me an apology for their employee’s unprofessional and disrespectful behavior. No customer should ever be treated this way. If this company cares at all about its reputation, they need to train their staff properly and learn how to treat customers with respect.

I wish I could give zero stars

Miami, FL Location: I wish I could give zero stars. I should've known it was going to be a disaster when I had to wait over an hour just to get some assistance because there was only one employee at the counter, and he was completely unhelpful. He couldn’t explain their own policies and seemed clueless about basic questions. I ended up cancelling my reservation and losing my money because it was so unreal. On top of that, they required a $1,000 deposit whether or not you purchased their insurance, which makes no sense. This was never communicated upfront, and when I asked for clarification, I got vague, unhelpful answers. The entire experience was frustrating and unprofessional. Do yourself a favor and rent from a company that actually values its customers and is transparent with their policies. Would never use them again!
