Invaluable Experience
I have been working/consulting with Guy for almost five months. My tinnitus started in 2009, but I was able to habituate to it pretty easily. It became very pronounced in October 2016, but I was able to habituate to it then too, though it took several months. It almost completely faded into the background as far as my hearing was concerned.
Then, my tinnitus again became very pronounced in February 2026, after surgery to repair a ruptured tendon in my left knee. I was prohibited from putting any weight on my left leg for six weeks, so I found it extremely difficult to deal with my tinnitus, which my mind focussed on since I had few other outlets or activities to divert my attention. It pretty much took over my life, and I was desperate for any distraction and relief.
Fortunately, I came across one of Guy’s videos on Internet, and contacted him directly. I had seen any number of alleged ways to deal with tinnitus on Internet, most of which I knew wouldn’t work. As I said to Guy, I needed a specific plan/structure of things to do to start to diminish the impact of my tinnitus. With his considerable experience, Guy was able to provide that immediately. He convinced me to start viewing my tinnitus as “just noise” - not something dangerous - and we discussed sound, breathing, and relaxation techniques. My tinnitus hasn’t faded completely into the background like it had before, but I became able to keep it in perspective and not let it dominate my thoughts or my life. I am able to carry out normal activities without any problem now.
I would highly recommend Guy to anyone who needs advice and assistance with their tinnitus. I’ve been meeting with him, via Zoom, every week - conversations that I still find very useful. My tinnitus goes through various stages, so there are often new aspects to discuss, and Guy always has valuable advice. It’s invaluable to be able to discuss all this with someone who has “been there, done that” with their own tinnitus.
The community that Guy runs is also a great resource, giving me the opportunity to hear other views and reminding me that there is a broad community of people who live with tinnitus every day and can offer support and encouragement.
