Scam you for your money and disguise it at a brokerage fee. Customs are not 50% for paper product. On top of that they charge you ddp which is the Customs portion

They are incompetent. Customer service told me they could do nothing about the 260 tariff on the 400 dollar order. After I ended up paying for it because there was no other option, they let me know they could have reviewed it because it was under the incorrected category. Not only that they take forever in packaging and responding to messages. 0/10

I do not recommend ZenMarket to anyone.
In my experience, they significantly increased parcel weight by adding excessive reinforcement, which raised shipping costs. I clearly requested lighter packaging and accepted responsibility for any potential damage, but my request was ignored.
I also paid to ship a car windshield, but they refused to use Japan Post and only offered expensive DHL shipping. A similar issue happened with my car seat—they did not disassemble it before packaging, which again increased costs.
After all this, I asked them to send the item to a local business address in Japan, but they refused that as well.
Overall, their policies feel unreasonable and unnecessarily costly. I would not recommend their service.

I’ve tried a bunch of proxy services over the years, but overall ZM (ZenMarket) has been the best for me to use.
Pros:
Packing quality
Their warehouse team does a great job protecting fragile items, while still keeping the package size as small as possible. I collect ceramics, and I’ve never had anything arrive damaged with ZM, even without extra “protective packaging.” For expensive or fragile stuff, I pretty much always go with ZM.
Customer service
Replies can take a bit of time, but compared to other big services, I feel like ZM actually cares about customer satisfaction. Their responses are generally reasonable and fair.
Payment system
I know the wallet system isn’t for everyone, but I personally like it. I use Wise, so ZM allows Wise transfer a big plus. I can convert USD to JPY when the rate is good and fund my ZM wallet directly from Wise. The transaction fees are basically 0, and it helps maximize the exchange rate advantage.
Shipping options
While Japan Post isn’t available, being able to use lower-cost couriers like ECMS (bulk customs clearance) is a big plus.
Transparent pricing
No hidden fees like some other big proxy services. I basically just pay the purchase support fee — no extra package consolidation, shipping handling, or insurance charges.
Cons:
Not supporting JDirect free market is a bit of a downside.
Other than that, nothing major.
The 800 yen purchase fee for Mercari/JDirect Auctions is on the higher side, but since it includes packing and insurance, and their packing is very efficient, the total cost after international shipping, especially for the high value/fragile items, often ends up much lower than other services anyway.
As long as they keep this level of service, I’m pretty happy sticking with ZM.

At first it was a bit hard for me to understand how it worked but as I kept looking and reading how to order stuff and how it is set up it was easy to understand. When it came to shipping, it was a breeze. Everything is set up in steps so there’s no confusion. I would recommend if it is the first time using zenmarket, order something small and inexpensive and see how it works out for you. Personally it was a great experience for me as a first time user.

Everything slow. Putting money into the account slow recognizing and requires multiple messages. Item arriving slow to inform how much it would cost to ship. Once informed put money into the system for shipping slow again and needs multiple messages to clear. Don’t work on weekends. Overall takes 2 weeks from purchase to leave Zenmarket on the way. Not for people that want a simple purchase and send along quickly. If you want to wait 2 weeks then it’s ok. Cheaper than Buyee because you can pay in Yen.

Im quite sad to write this because I genuinely like Zen Market, however, I run a business that relies on a steady stream of orders coming though consistently.
The last few weeks it takes an average of 6-8 days to pack a 2KG box with 10 items then maybe a further 2 days to be collected by DHL. If you need a fast turnaround I would consider another service.
In addition to this their website outages over the last week have been extremely dissapointing to say the least. Many areas of the website have been completely unaccessible and many of my auctions have been cancelled on their end.
I'll be trying out other services until a time when they can run a fast reliable service.

I stumbled upon ZenMarket while trying to procure a Suruga bamboo basket.
The setup is simple: create an account, transfer funds, then add your desired item to your cart. ZenMarket performs a price check, requests payment, and once paid, you simply wait. It’s similar to Amazon, but you get visibility of each stage between ordering and shipping, along with the option to request photos of your item(s) and reinforced packaging.
As I was ordering delicate bamboo work, I opted for both—and I’m very glad I did. I received my photos the same day my item arrived at the ZenMarket warehouse.
The reinforcement was excellent. The outer box was made of very thick, solid cardboard, with the edges and corners reinforced to the point it resembled an old wooden crate, and filled with large, dense packing beans. Realistically, the only way that box was getting damaged was if something like a car ran over it.
I would note timelines—if you’re used to overnight or very fast shipping, this isn’t that kind of service. It does take time. However, their estimated delivery timeframe was spot on. If you don’t mind waiting for exemplary service, this is absolutely worth it.
I’m extremely pleased with the experience and would highly recommend ZenMarket to others.

I have purchased 11 snares from Japan in the last 3 years. The most paid in shipping was $125 through DHL that included import fees. I was charged $152.60 without import fees. The total amount this item cost me was $866. For this amount I could of bought one here in the US. The why reason to purchase in Japan was to buy one cheaper. Total real cost was $701. I paid $165 more. The reasons given was import fees, taxes and custom duties. Import fees are part of shipping and are very minimal. Taxes are part of the purchase price when the drum was paid for. I seriously doubt this company is going to pay Texas sales tax which would only have been about $42. Custom duties are paid by receiver (me) when receiving the package. Note - I have never had to pay custom duties. I feel these reasons are contrived and I was unjustly charged more than should of been. I feel that this company is not geared to people making large package purchases or large money amount purchase. If so, they should institute a percentage amount of the purchase like 10%. I don't like feeling like I have been cheated but that is exactly how I feel.

Too expensive. Part of the enticement is to get the things you want at a reasonable price. Once all fees are paid this is an expensive option. The whole system works but is a slow process that needs to be a lot better to be anywhere near justifying the cost.
