Homefix - Rubbish service

Called out Homefix to send an engineer with the correct part (thermostat) to fix a faulty electric shower. I stressed to them on the initial call to only send the engineer when he could come with the thermostat to ensure that I only had to pay 1 call out charge for the repair. Unfortunately, they sent out an engineer without informing him about this requirement leaving me in the position where I now to pay the cost of 2 call-out charges when the job only required. No blame on Dean, the engineer, he was competent, efficient and friendly and correctly diagnosed that I needed a new thermostat! So to sum up, engineer Dean excellent, Homefix rubbish! I would strongly advise using someone else rather than this bunch of cowboys if you want a reasonably priced, efficient service.

Drainage

Luke fixed a drainage issue with my kitchen sink quickly and gave useful recommendations on how to improve some other issues. Very professional throughout.

Be warned about 0800 Homefix Ltd…

Be warned about 0800 Homefix Ltd (operating as James Plumbing via mobile: 07893 979932). I was charged a staggering £346 just for an "investigation" by engineer Harry Ahmed, which involved identifying a seized 2-port valve—a 5-minute diagnostic.
​After paying the massive investigation fee, I was hit with a further quote of £497 for a repair that local High Wycombe plumbers do for £150. The total cost would have been over £800 for a minor valve replacement. They use professional-looking "technical reports" and aggressive T&Cs to justify charging triple the fair market rate.
​Another major red flag: they demand bank transfer or cash only, leaving you with zero buyer protection once they have your money. Do not be pressured by their "non-refundable" clauses or safety scare tactics. Check with a local independent engineer first and save yourself hundreds of pounds.

Dean was very professional

Dean was very professional, explained all the options, very polite, swift and tidy. He identified the problem and all the information about what needed to be done and a breakdown of the quote was emailed quickly, so that I could forward it to the insurance company.

Fast and efficient

Response to initial request was very fast from office staff. Charlie was friendly and did a great job, fast and efficient and explained what he was doing. Initial rate was competitive, but the additional work was a bit pricey for what it was.

In response to my review 0800 Homefix Ltd they said that couldn’t forward the report to me because I gave them the wrong email address. 0800 Homefix ltd forwarded the first invoice for over £144 to me via email. I called the company Thursday and Friday requesting the report and at no point they mentioned incorrect email. It was only when I asked for my money back that they said I gave them the wrong email. They weren’t interested in anything apart from money and over inflating price for a straight forward job.

An engineer attended your property and carried out a full assessment of the leaking kitchen tap. During the visit, the tap was inspected, isolated, and partially dismantled to identify the fault. It was found that the internal hot cartridge had seized, meaning a safe and reliable repair could not be completed on site. As a result, a recommendation was made to replace the tap and install isolation valves. A quotation was issued based on these findings.

Following the visit, a job report was generated and sent to the email address provided on the booking. When it became apparent there was an issue with receipt, we requested confirmation of the correct email details and resent the report accordingly. We understand you state you have not successfully received it.

We also attempted to contact you by telephone today to discuss your concerns directly, however we were unable to discuss the issue at that time.

As there are multiple outstanding concerns regarding both communication and the report itself, this matter cannot be fully resolved through review responses alone. We would therefore ask that you contact our office directly so we can review the complete job file, correspondence history, and ensure the report is received and any remaining issues are properly resolved.

We are ready to assist as soon as we are able to speak with you directly.

Homefix’s same day service is great, with a speedy response to my request on Checkatrade Dean from Homefix quickly sorted out a toilet blockage and related leak and also gave me good advice on possible future work. Great service and clear communication, many thanks!

This was a last-minute call out to detach a waste disposal unit for access reasons. The company was super responsive and professional. Gave me reliable pricing information. The plumber was John Mills - excellent all round. Professional, diligent, efficient and friendly. Highly recommended.

Misleading charges and a really upsetting experience

I’m very disappointed with Homefix. I explained clearly during the booking call that a plumber had already tried everything and that machinery would be needed. I asked directly whether the engineer would come with the right equipment. I was quoted £120 for the first hour, and not once was I told there would be an extra £385 + VAT machinery charge.

When the engineer arrived, he confirmed exactly what I had said — machinery was required — and only then told me the extra cost. By that point, it was hours before our festival, and I felt completely stuck.

I was also never told that payment had to be made upfront, which left my wife suddenly pressured into paying on the spot. She was extremely upset by how the call was handled, and even the engineer apologised for how she had been spoken to.

When I raised all of this with the company, they dismissed the concerns and took no responsibility for failing to disclose the charges or the upfront payment requirement. The whole experience has been stressful and very upsetting, and I expected far better transparency and basic understanding.

As outlined in our previous correspondence, the initial booking covered a first-hour assessment. Any further work identified beyond that — including the use of specialist machinery — falls outside that scope and is quoted separately once the engineer has assessed the situation on site. In this case, the requirement for additional equipment was confirmed during the visit, a quote was provided, and the work only proceeded once it had been accepted and payment authorised.

We understand your concerns around communication; however, our records (including the quotation, invoice, and email correspondence) show that the additional charges were clearly presented and agreed to before the work went ahead. Our terms regarding upfront payment are also set out in advance, and while we appreciate this may not have been your expectation, we are unable to proceed with works without payment being made.

With regard to the call you referenced, we have reviewed the recording. While we recognise this was a stressful situation, we did not find evidence of our team member acting inappropriately. The call reflects an attempt to clarify how you wished to proceed, particularly as concerns were being raised at the time.

We do regret that the experience did not meet your expectations, but based on a full review of the job and communications, our position remains unchanged.
