Just a 48-Hour Unpaid Task Requirement from their “CEO” (see their email)

Applied for a "junior growth marketing role" and received a direct email from the "CEO"—no interview, no screening—only instructions to install developer tools, create a GitHub repo, and submit a task within 48 hours, "no extensions". (see their email below)

For a marketing position, that’s a clear misalignment.

There’s also no transparency on how many steps follow, how candidates are evaluated, or whether there is any real interaction at all. The entire process places the burden on the applicant to complete time-bound tasks upfront, with no corresponding investment from the company.

If this reflects how they structure hiring, it raises questions about how they approach operations more broadly. Companies should be cautious to associate their brand with this practice.

Applicants, read the instructions carefully before committing your time.

Hi (xxxx),
Thanks for applying. Here's how our process works, it's different from what you're used to.

We don't do interviews. Instead, we ask you to complete a portfolio project. This project is not related to our company. it's yours to keep and show to other potential employers, even if we don't end up working together. We know that for junior candidates the hardest part is often not learning fast, but proving capability without prior experience. This process is built to solve exactly that problem. The first step is simple: install a few tools, create a GitHub repository, and send us the link.

Here's what to do:
1. Install Cursor IDE — https: //cursor. com/
2. Add the Claude Code add-on in Cursor (Extensions → search "Claude Code") and log in to it.
3. Add the Codex add-on in Cursor (Extensions → search "Codex") and log in to it.

4. Create a public GitHub repository (if you don't have a GitHub account yet, create one at https: // github .com/)

5. Open the repository in Cursor

6. Create a README.md file that describes:
— What tools you installed
— What steps you completed
— What issues you ran into and how you solved them

7. Commit and push to GitHub

8. Reply to this email with the link to your README.md file on GitHub

Deadline: 48 hours from now. No extensions.

If you don't know how to do a specific step, that's completely fine. Search YouTube for a tutorial (e.g., "how to create a GitHub repository", "how to push code to GitHub", "how to install Cursor extensions"). Finding answers on your own is part of what we're looking for.

If you complete this step on time, we'll send you the next one. At the end of the process, you'll have a public portfolio project demonstrating your research, synthesis, judgment, and AI-tool skills, something you can show to any future employer.

Good luck,
Alex Kravets

Disappointing and Misleading Hiring Process

I recently applied for a Growth Marketing Manager role at 100Hires and unfortunately had a very poor candidate experience.
The job posting stated that the hiring process would consist of submitting an application followed by one interview with the CEO and a final decision within 48 hours. However, the process turned out to be very different.
After applying, I was first asked to complete a questionnaire (Quiz). Then I received an email from the CEO asking about my availability for an interview, which led me to believe the next step would indeed be an interview with him. Instead, I was scheduled for an interview with HR.
The HR interview itself was extremely uncomfortable. It consisted of more than 20 rapid-fire questions with no engagement, discussion, or reflection on the answers I provided. The interviewer did not ask a single question about cultural fit, motivations, or who I am as a professional, which is typically the purpose of an HR conversation.
Instead, the interview focused almost entirely on recalling very specific metrics and data points from roles I held years ago, without any space for context or discussion.
After that interview, I was asked to complete another assignment. Shortly after submitting it, I received a rejection email.
Overall, the process felt disorganised, impersonal, and very different from what was initially communicated in the job description.
Recruitment is often a company’s first interaction with potential employees and reflects its culture. Unfortunately, this experience did not leave a positive impression.
I hope the company reconsiders how it communicates its hiring process and how candidates are treated during interviews.

My favorite applicant tracking system

Apart from other operations within my current scope of tasks, I process dozens of resumes from job
applicants every day. As a result, the database is comprised of hundreds of CVs for various positions, and I cannot handle all of them manually. I was looking for a recruitment platform that could help me simplify the process for quite a while. At last, I've found the ATS that copes with the task perfectly.

Automation in a few clicks

Finally, we found a robust cloud-based ATS that drives efficient recruitment processes and is a perfect
choice for workflow automation. Through the use of workflow builders and automatic templates, emails,
parsed resumes built within one system are not only delivering conventional functionality but also enhance
the HR team's ability to operate in a more dynamic environment. It allows the company to effectively
manage every stage of interaction with the applicant. Such an approach is becoming the philosophy behind
professional recruiting and a must-have solution for modern businesses.

The good applicant tracking system

We invested a great deal of time searching for a suitable ATS before going over 100Hires.
As a tech organization, we needed something that was spotless and responsive. As we not utilized a
framework like this before it should have been straightforward enough for our group to embrace, yet
spread the entirety of our needs - which it completely does.

Great ATS with affordable pricing

Great ATS with affordable pricing. I switched to 100Hires from Google Hire, really liked that it also has Gmail and Calendar integrations. Unlike many other ATS (like Lever, Greenhouse, Workable) they have pay as you go option instead of expensive annual contracts.
