My experience with 1040.com is…
My experience with 1040.com is interesting. My first time to use them. The instructions are clear and easy to follow.
Clunky
I tried 1040.com as part of the IRS's "free file" program. Unfortunately, it leaves a lot to be desired:
1) Overall, it's clunky to use, and not very user-friendly. The interface is not that intuitive either.
2) The instructions are rather poor, making it unclear exactly what fields need to be filled out on certain forms—or if it's even necessary to fill out a certain form at all.
3) From one bank, I had received nine different 1099-INT forms. And guess what? 1040.com made me enter the exact same contact info and tax number for this bank NINE times. Ridiculous! 😝 It should have just remembered all that information after the first entry.
4) 1040.com tried to charge me a penalty for not making estimated tax payments. But when I searched their so-called help on this topic, absolutely nothing came up! So, I had to keep playing around with a form at the very end, which eventually erased my supposed penalty.
5) The site went down for about 30 minutes while I was trying to do my taxes. Incredibly frustrating! 😖
OLT.com (Online Taxes) is a bit better and less confusing than 1040.com, and the only reason I didn’t end up using them instead is that I would have had to pay to file my state return.
There was actually one main advantage of using 1040.com: both my returns were FREE. 😊 So, I'm grateful for that, but if I could do it all over again, I'd probably just use another site instead, even if I had to pay a modest fee.
Anyway, while 1040.com offers a great way to save money, that's really about all it has going for it. 😏
Nom Stete Tax
I had trouble completing the e file. This format wanted me tom submit a state tax return for Alaska.
I was happy that i could ask questions…but Not the use of my personal Info
I was happy that i could ask questions through your links- I'm slow & read everything so - i got timed out a few times. This was a little frustrating, but i understood it was for my own safety, I do NOT like the selling my info part and tried to have that removed- actually i pressed the buttons and everything - but I couldn't get past my birthdate in you site- contacted support and " they thought it might be my BROWSER" ??? -I tried hitting the Back Button & the next thing I knew- I had to re-sign in and change my Username- so I'm hoping the LIMITATIONS on my personal information that I opted out of you sharing stayed in because i had to redo one of my forms entirely....They were very helpful so I'll be looking into that and resign in tomorrow,
