If you’re reading this, you’ve probably already had a bad experience. You are not alone, and you still have options.
This company dispatched a locksmith called Mono when my son and I were locked out on a cold morning in our pyjamas. He drilled through the door and then pressure-sold me “high security” locks, saying they were essential and that I would have problems if I didn’t agree and took alternatives. He told me he would “get me a discount because he felt sorry for me”. I was charged £909 for gaining entry and securing the door.
Shortly afterwards I discovered that the parts installed were low-cost items worth under £30 in total, not the expensive products I had been shown on the phone. My request for a refund was refused, and I have not had a reply to my formal complaint. After checking Trustpilot, I can see very similar reviews involving the same individual and very similar tactics.
If this has already happened to you, don’t panic and don’t feel ashamed – these situations typically happen when you are stressed, tired, locked out or worried. You still have rights, even if you signed an invoice or initially agreed under pressure.
1. Contact your bank or credit card provider. Ask for a chargeback or Section 75 claim (credit cards). Explain the misrepresentation and pressure selling in your emergency situation.
2. Report it to the police via action Fraud. You can do this at reportfraud.police.uk. You'll receive a crime reference number.
3. Report the business to Trading Standards. Visit citizensadvice.org.uk and search “Trading Standards”. The more similar reports they receive, the faster they act.
4. Check what was actually installed. Look at the brand on the cylinder and internal latch, compare with what you thought you were buying. Mono used a site called Astra when at my home.
5. Leave a Trustpilot review. It will help protect the next person.
Best of luck ✌️
CRIMINALS
Our front door mechanism jammed late on Christmas Day and we called this company after several local ones didn’t answer. The locksmith called Mono who has already been name-checked in these reviews arrived within 20 minutes. He immediately advised us that the mechanism had failed and needed replacing. He quoted a figure which I thought was £69 + VAT so I agreed. He disappeared to ‘find the part from a colleague’, assuring me it would only take him 10 minutes. Nearly 40 minutes later he returned, by which time it was nearly 1 am. He replaced the mechanism and then announced the lock itself was faulty, rattling it around to demonstrate that it was loose. On his phone he showed me a ‘high-security’ lock priced at £465. When I said that was far too much and I just needed to get the door secure for the night and get to bed, he quoted me £250 instead. I declined again but he then produced an invoice for replacing the mechanism for over £1200. I was absolutely distraught, realising I would have no option but to pay this guy to secure our house for the night (and get him off our property). He became aggressive, saying I had already agreed to the price. Probably sensing I had realised what he was up to, he announced he would give me a ‘discount’ since it was Christmas and produced a new invoice for £1048 with the new mechanism coming to £699 + VAT (at that point he even offered to install the new ‘high-security’ lock free of charge).
We have subsequently had the work checked by a local locksmith we have used previously who advised that the lock could have been secured for the night by simply oiling the old mechanism (which we kept), but nonetheless he quoted a replacement at £95 + VAT. He showed us that the guy had deliberately inserted the wrong screw to the lock so that it was loose and rattled. It took him seconds to install the correct screw (for which he did not charge us). He was genuinely appalled but not surprised at our treatment by these scammers- sadly the story is all too familiar to those in the trade.
This company is nothing but criminals who are praying on vulnerable people and know they can simply make up ridiculous prices that people will pay because they are in a desperate situation. Utterly shameful.
Claude helped us get inside
Claude helped us get inside , amazing job.
Only waited about 25 minutes, would highly recommend
Total scam - avoid
Total scam. Said one price on phone for call out, charged me something different. Then tried to say it was £500 for them to drill my door open - which I suspect they do to damage your lock so you have little choice but to pay for a new one.
I’ve since had another locksmith round who said what they did was completely unnecessary and they’d not seen the like.
Kicking myself for not properly checking this company out and to feeling pressured to pay what I now realise is a scam. Avoid.
Alex was very punctual, efficient and friendly
Alex was amazing - very punctual, efficient and friendly. He was patient as it was Christmas day me and children were accidentally locked out. I'd highly recommend Alex and will certainly use him again. Many thanks Alex.
Scam artists
Scam artists. Look my Banham lock off. Told me it needed to be completely replaced at £880 pre VAT plus labour and call out charge of £160 + VAT and 75 + VAT. They went to get a replacement lock. Bought a different model that was scratched and clearly a fake. Then haggled around whether or not they could just fix the existing lock. None of their answers stacked up, clear they were having it on so chucked them out the house and got someone else in instead.

Complete scam
Complete scam. I was quoted 120 on the phone, then the person quoted 200 when he got here, I said okay, and he quoted £700 after he finished the job. I am currently seeking a manager and I will get law enforcement or file a court case if I am charged. I am currently working this out now.

SCAM COMPANY - AVOID!!!
Key snapped in Yale cylinder. I was quoted £45 call out and £30 new lock over the phone. Then guy arrives who barely speaks English, shows me a screenshot of a basic Yale cylinder for £189 and asks for £200 because 'high security'. I said no I was quoted £30 i just want standard. Then he says 'OK £100' (presumably for the same Yale cylinder). I said no thanks I can get this from Toolstation for £13! I was then charged a call out fee for absolutely nothing. They didn't even mention on the phone they excluded the VAT! AVOID THIS COMPANY THEY WILL SCAM YOU FOR AS MUCH AS THEY CAN!!! FALSE ADVERTISING IS A CRIME AND HAS BEEN REPORTED

Tell you one price over the phone and then charge you triple once they’ve come out, when you query they are rude and relock you out in the freezing cold.
