Untrustworthy was Told lies parts not “supplied an fitted “

Stay well clear of this company untrustworthy at the Tipton branch they tell lies do not supply and fit the parts they tell you there going to supply and fit they put my old parts back on you’re car.!
Had problems with 5th not working on the gearbox of my car so I decide to replace the whole gearbox with a reconditioned unit and a new clutch. Rang a1 clutches had a quote on the phone for £595.00 for the gearbox “Supplied and Fitted” so i booked the car in for the work to be done. on Tuesday afternoon dropped it off on that day. before I gave it to the a1 clutches I scratched/marked my gearbox to ensure I was being supplied with a fully reconditioned gearbox.

I was called on the Wednesday midday saying the slave cylinder on the car was stiff and needed replacing and told it could leak on to the new clutch if I didn’t so I agreed to replace it. I was then called again later that day to my surprise that the car was ready to collect which did leave me wondering how they had managed to source a fully reconditioned gearbox for my car in such a short space of time as my car is a 57 plate focus petrol 1.8. due to the bulk of the item it comes on a pallet I know this as I had been trying to purchase one myself for 2-3weeks and everywhere I contacted said 2-3 days delivery time at least.

I went to collect the car was given the receipt of the works carried out and the final bill and before I paid I ask Kelly who served me through the whole process “you’ve supplied and fitted a fully reconditioned gearbox haven’t you not just reconditioned mine ? The reply was yes we’ve changed the whole gearbox unit for a reconditioned one not reconditioned yours” at that I took her word for it so I proceeded to make the payment.
On getting the car home I thought I would just check if the gearbox had been replaced when I did the two scratches/marking I had put on the casing before I dropped the car off was there to my horror then I knew I had been over charged and ripped off.

I called A1 clutches the following morning to question why I was put through to the most ignorant/arrogant person I have ever spoke to in my life.

When I asked why my gearbox hasn’t been replaced with a fully reconditioned gearbox you’ve put my old one back on he said :-
We have its fixed what’s the problem you got 2years warranty it’s ok.
Yours was shot totally burnt out.
I said:- no you’ve put my old box back on that’s not supply and fit.how could it be When I’ve drove it for 2-3 weeks and to a1 clutches using just 4 gears. No reply
Then He said:- my gearbox team have changed all the parts on you’re gear box That’s it’s reconditioned
I said:- that’s not supply and fitting what was agreed and which is also on the receipt under Supplied and fitted parts you’ve used MY old gearbox..

then that proceeded to two half hour conversations based on what reconditioned/supply/fitted is acquired by law and isn’t and how to resolve this matter fairly which he had no interest in. Which ending in me having to terminate the call due to the sophomaniac of him an the lack ability to understand A1 clutches have failed in the contract we entered into if you read the “supply of goods act 1982”.
He also confirmed that he had asked Kelly if she had said there was a fully reconditioned gearbox supplied an fitted to the car on the day of me paying the bill he said she didn’t say that. Utter Lies.

I was sent the recording of the first quotation conversation I had with Kelly via WhatsApp I listened to it where it was clearly stated to me on the first conversation “supplied and fitted parts”which was later deleted by a1 clutches.

On the bill invoice there a section as follows:-
WORK CARRIED OUT
Supplied and Fitted
1. Reconditioned gearbox (where is it? )
2. Clutch
3. Slave cylinder
Total price £815.00
Due to the non supply of the replacement of the gearbox this does put in jeopardy and left me wondering if the clutch and slave cylinder has been replaced to.

You’ve been warned.. stay well clear

Avoid this garage

Avoid this garage.

Their shoddy work caused my van to completely break down 2 weeks later. As another garage found out that the issues I had were due to A1 clutches leaving debris, A1 have refused to take responsibility because I took it to another garage. The other garage also completely replaced the clutch A1 put in. Read the other bad reviews.

Cheap and clueless

I had a noise on my van which I thought was DMF so I booked it in with A1 Cannock (never used them before).

So they looked at it nd told me my van doesn't have a DMF so it was the clutch bearing and quoted me a good price.

When I got the van back it had a horrible grinding noise and vibration. I told them about this and they said it was the driveshaft bearing and the noise will die down after a couple of days. This noise wasn't there before.

The noise and vibration only got worse and although it was under a warranty with A1 I didn't take it back I didn't them anywhere near it. In the end took it somewhere else to get it sorted instead, after a few weeks it started making the original noise again absolute cowboys.

A1 are cheap for a reason!

Fab service

Suki and the team in Derby have always given us great service. They've carried out several different works on 2 of our cars and we couldn't be happier with the outcome and the costs. The latest being an awful oil leak on my Mondeo. We will keep going back when we need them!

Poor service and bad clutch

I bought a used Honda civic 12/2018 and I knew that the clutch will need changing soon. Few days after the purchase it started slipping and needed replacement sooner than what I'd thought. I looked online and A1 Tipton branch was the quickest and cheapest (315£) to fit the clutch. I booked the car for the same week and it took 2-3 hours only to fit the clutch which made me very happy. Unfortunately on my very first minute driving the car I noticed a slight vibration/judder whenever I engage the clutch in the first or reverse gear to pull away with car. One I drive it is absolutely fine but whenever I stop and start I notice this annoying vibration. This becomes more evident on pulling away swiftly in a junction or on hill starts. I thought it will settle with time and that they will check it in the routine check ups (500,1,3,6K). Every time they check the car and say all is good , can't fault the clutch and this problem still there. I got my car serviced at a Honda garage and they can't fault the engine as the source of vibration. They said A1 uses the cheapest re-manufactured clutches and this is from a bad clutch and they see many people with similar problems coming from A1. As I am still in the warranty period (just approaching 10K), I took the car to Tipton branch and again they can't find a problem. I took the car to Birmngham branch and waited for 1 hour and after a test drive they advised that the clutch need to be checked but only can be done at the Tipton branch. Again I drove to Tipton and they refused to acknowledge the problem saying that this is from low idling and engine mounts. He brought his manager who wasn't polite and said that I own a Honda not a BMW or Mercedes and this is how it drives and if not happy either to get another car or take to Hondad dealer to prove that the clutch is the problem. Honda dealer charges 110£ to check that problem and I am not happy to pay that and not happy to live with the problem so I will take the case to legal advise and action.

PLEASE AVOID AT ANY COST PARTICULARLY THE TIPTON BRANCH - VERY UNPROFESSIONAL

I learned after that I could have had a brand new OEM like clutch for almost the same price from a Honda garage.

Recommend everytime

2nd time I’ve used A1 Clutches and will continue to come back. Service is always quick and didn’t have to wait for an appointment called up in the morning and it was completed the same day. Follow up service is great too. Would definitely recommend to anyone.
