I regret ever opening the link to this scam of a dating site. 1st red flag was when I chose a month's subscription that said I would pay R99 only for the deduction to be R396 which I only noticed when my banking app opened - even there payment went through before I clicked the confirm button. I contacted them numerous times asking them to unsubscribe me as I could not find that option on their website. That still did not happen, now I realize an amount R999 was debited from my account after I had told them to delete my subscription.

I joined this company on 15 February 2023 with Premium membership for £55. AFTER I had joined, I received a message to say that the price for automatic renewal after 6 months would be £179 and cancellation had to be in writing 4 weeks in advance. There was no indication as to where I should write to cancel. I received several introductions until the end of February and then heard nothing more until 15 August, the very day that the automatic renewal was due, when I received a very unpleasant e-mail from Academic Singles threatening me with a debt collection agency. (The payment wasn't even overdue by that stage - it was the same day!) Unknown to me, it was my bank's fraud department that had blocked the payment! I telephoned my bank and asked my bank to release the payment because I did not want the aggravation and the intimidating threats. The next day, I returned to the AS site and tried to pay on the Pay Now button. A pop-up message from AS told me that "because we have detected numerous attempts to make a payment, the payment facility for this account has been made temporarily unavailable". (This time it was A/S that had blocked it - not very logical). I have e-mailed AS and not had a relevant response, just a cyclostyled message. I have tried to pay, even though my trust in AS as a company is well and truly broken. I have now spoken to a legal advice service. I could live without this loss of time and hassle.

Would like to give this zero stars or minus 100.
They say they have a 14 day cooling off period, which I requested and went online to check for a reply from customer service as they did not email me back for 2 days. Because I went online to look for their message they said I had used the service. They are thieves and dishonest, just like all dating websites, it's appalling. I hope they fail miserably.

I lost half day for competing their profile to find we all are being robbed. There were some profiles immediately matching me and every day so but even if we respond to those matching questions absolute no message can be sent and all profiles are blurred. What is the scope of this app ??? Paying is for hoes so I know they re hoes and they cheated their paying users badly by millions. I cannot understand how the countries are not taking actions After years and years and millions of scammed people . This is the democracy we live . Cheers

Beware scam!
Joined on a monthly plan two months ago. It was meant to be less than $20. They made me go premium and charged me $99 in July. Then on 4 August this year they just charge me another $99. I have written to them seven times through their forms and emails and they have ignored me. Only way I can contact is through Fax which I don’t have. Going to report to Police and Bank Unless I get my full refund immediately tried to delete my account and it wouldn’t let me saying that I have to contact them in order to delete because I’m premium. I did not sign premium. I signed monthly. Beware. This is a scam. They must be pulling in a fortune! I noticed that academic singles reply to this, please reply with we will refund you your $198 immediately and close your account. Happy to provide my login email. Do not reply with fluffy crap. We know you’re a scammer, pay me my money and delete my account or I take it much higher. Believe me. these guys also threaten people, apparently according to hundreds of other reviews, which I should have read before I joined. They threaten people with legal action and ruining your credit rating which is impossible Anyway overseas if you don’t pay the cancellation fees etc. There is no contract, there is no warning of fees, everything is a breach-of-contract law even if there was one. Pay me my money back, you don’t know who you’re dealing with.

It is a scam. With "hi" describing me and "bye" describing what I am looking for, and no photo, I get messages everyday.

Not a good experience, no way of vetting their academia or professionalism. Also found the emails cartoon the website with potential matches to contain profile pics of models to get you to join their membership.

I joined AS in New Zealand.
It has few men available in my age bracket of over 60 in comparison to NZ Dating or FindSomeone. It looks like people are available but less than 1/10 reply instead of 9/10 replies in the other sites I've mentioned. That experience is depressing but fortunately, I had a recent comparison. So, most of the profiles of men over 60 in my region were null/void/non-existent.

One scammer got in touch with me and then 'he' stopped answering via AS yet his profile still existed. It may be, that many of the 'null' profiles are of scammer or temporary profiles. If that's the case, there's little overview of the quality of their profiles.

AS's 'psychological profiling' sounds good but in reality it results in profiles that don't tell you much compared to the other two sites. It's therefore frustrating to decide if someone is worth approaching.

I wanted to get my money back after a week of using this service. I succeeded in doing this by being very persistent and factual about my 'not fit for purpose' experience.

By the way, most other so called reviews of dating sites - especially AS are completely false representations provided by parties working for AS. Ie they look real but are really a form of website ads.

Like all dating sites, once you subscribe, they don't want you to unsubscribe and therefore make it as difficult as possible. You have to print out and 'fax' a form to them, or post it. This is 2023, not 1973. Beware the notice period too otherwise you will be stung with a renewal whether you like it or not. And seriously, you're supposed to 'love' the site ???

These are big time SCAMMERS. Not only that the website is a joke, nothing academic în there, no user friendly and atractive feature, but they are FRAUDS. You pay for a ONE MONTH SUBSCRIPTION, but they keep withdrawing unauthorized payments from your bank account, pretending you have signed up for renewal. They dont show any renewal notice when you make the one month payment and they also make it imposibile for you to cancel the subscription. This needs to be investigated asap by the authorities, they keep stealing from people!!!

You should cut the crap about your terms and conditions. You say you can unsubscribe, but you are making it imposibile, by not showing the unsubscribe option and saying to check again în a few days!! The internet is full of complaints about academicsingles and yet you have the nerve to continue with this theft. You are not showing any option to deactivate the automatic renewal, either, nor the prices. According to the consumer laws, you must provide full and clear information and it is your duty to prove that you did, for each and every customer. You dont even bother to get back to my complaint that I sent on email, once you stole my money. I will report you to the rightful authorities and I hope they will take you down soon, with the appropriate sanctions.

First, I opted for a discounted offer. Only to find out, right before confirming payment, that the discount was a lie. Since it was only about EUR 2-3, I did not consider it a problem.
The real problem is when you want to get rid of this account. You find out quite soon the site can't offer you too much. So you want to end the subscription. But you can't do that from your account on the website. If you access your account type (so you can ask for its cancellation) right after making first payment, you'll see a message that your account type is pending and this will be clarified within a few days. Well, not even after the first month this won't be clarified... It's only a trick to make you enter to the next month of subscription, which is paid in full and it's quite expensive. And you can not find anywhere on the website, on registration, the monthly fee.
Besides that, the procedure for ending subscription is difficult. Back in 2022, when I made the mistake of creating an account here, the only way to end it was by submitting - via e-mail - a written, signed and scanned application. And this shouldn't have been sent too close to the end of a billing cycle...
So, all these things, put together, make me think this is a deliberate behaviour, just to make you pay as long as possible.
I also created accounts on other similar websites. When I wanted to end subscription, it was an easy (and instantly) job, solved via the online chat of the platform. Did I say INSTANTLY? Yes, I did. Great, since this is the truth! Not at all like on academicsingles.com

This site is very flashy but is basically a scam. There's nothing "academic" about it; their pricing structure is deliberately confusing, causing you to end up signing up for months long plans and they take payment for all months out at once; they do NOT honour the basic consumer protections, giving you a "cooling off" period (not just not the usual 14 days, they refuse any form of cooling off period); and you cannot assess what you get from the site w/out signing up for one of the months-long premium services. When you find out that the site doesn't deliver what it promises and request a refund, they tell you that it's impossible since you already logged in and looked around for 24 hours. It's ridiculous. Now I'm going to have to deal with the credit card company/PayPal to get this sorted, as they have stopped all communication with me.

I signed up for a trial and chose the 'do not renew' option after the trial expiry. 1,2,3.... after having already forgotten about the site (as I only use it for a month) I was doing a personal audit on my credit card in December 2022 and hwat do I see? On 10 October they deducted ZAR1,794 form my credit card again, without my authority!!! None of the phone numbers listed on their site are going through (which sincere company does not have a working phone number for customer service?) and I sent emails and no response other than a ticket that does say " Do you want to upgrade to Premium?: (unrelated content). Still waiting for any correspondence or refund. THIEVES!!!DO NOT USE. EVER. Looks like the only remedy here is to warn EVERYONE I possibly can and to cancel my credit card. Such liars!!! Now they are saying the renewal is automatic, even though I chose the "Do not renew" option on sign up. Just hopeless. Only solution. Take their reputation down I want my money back or I will make sure you loose every customer there is by advertsiing my experience! Trust me on that. Those customer service NEVER attended to my query. Such liar business. It should be shut down by the companies division and listed as fraud.

PLEASE avoid this website completely! They gave me a monthly amount to pay with creditcard of about twenty euro's, but after filling in all the data, it suddenly said that I had to pay ten times more. I was lucky to see it and cancelled the payment. Also the name of the website was changing while I was clicking on the various options. Besides, I should have known this from the strange childish questions that do not match with what you expect from a website for academics.
Please also note that Academic Singles responds to our complaints in a way that does NOT address the concern of the customer. They also patronize the customer by assuming the customizer did not understand the terms. Do not believe what they say.

This is an absolute scam. I’ve emailed them few days before my expiration date , hence , they are still forcing me to pay and saying that there’s an automatic subscription which clearly I only agreed for a month. The fact that I didn’t pay for the next month , means I’m no longer interested and it’s not so useful at all. Furthermore, they don’t reply to email rightaway and they’re threatening you for not paying for your renewal for the fact that you are no longer interested because there’s no much selection. Not a good site at all!

Avoid them at all costs! This is a total scam. They stole R999 from me over and above the original subscription of around R350 I think... I was persistent in trying to cancel from 22 October and they ignored emails or sent misleading information. Only after they got the R999 from me did I suddenly have the option of deleting my account. Hateful bunch!

A bunch of scammers, that’s all I can say. They will tell you about an auto-subscription and you can’t cancel the subscription so they send you invoices monthly and send you threats about a court order.

I am sorry to tell that this is the worst website I have ever seen.
I have tried many times to contact them to stop my renewal but you never can reach them. There is no useful answer.
I am not really happy with them and I suggest not to join them .they say send your cancellation 7 days before of renewal date . But how to whom witch email?
