Second time Alamo have charged us after our return for things we didn’t have. Each time they have charged us for tolls even though we had a toll pass which covered toll charges and they also tried to... See more

Do not use this Company
Do not use this Company, Alamo are just an untrustworthy company! Had a final invoice of 0.00 then an amount of $134.58 was taken from my account once all was settled. When I rang they said they couldn’t explain. Then they said I used a voucher so I had to pay the difference when I clearly used a credit card and payed in full. Just an untrustworthy company. Do Not Use!
Refundable deposit is not intended to be refunded
Took the car from Alamo at Waverly Station Edinburgh, returned the car in the exact same condition as it was received - even then we were charged full refundable deposit as tyre repair charges.
While checking in, the representative told us that the car condition was good and we did the mistake of believing him.
We drove only 600 miles on highways with no incident whatsoever. On return of the car, we were told that two tyres had chip marks from the side (we did the mistake of not taking photos with microscopic cameras - Yes, that is what you would need if you want to rent from alamo without being cheated).
We were asked to pay more money (over the refundable deposit) to cover for the cost of tyres (full replacement). After 2-3 mins of negotiations, the representative told us that he can get it done with the refundable deposit only - but it is unlikely that we will get anything back :|
It was an almost invisible mark to notice (it was probably there before taking the car also, who knows). But we were charged full refundable deposit and were blamed for the marks in the cooked up incident summary; expectation is that car tyres should remain as good as new - this is insane. Tyres are supposed to be worn off a little after a long drive.
It felt like the representative already made up his mind about not returning the deposit & cooked up a story around it.
Felt super cheated and in a very cornered situation. Very bad experience, wouldn't recommend renting from Alamo at all.
I was given different horror stories by…
I was given different horror stories by the hire sales rep about £1750 for a scratch on each panel, so a long scratch over 3 would = £5250 charge. Similar for tyres. They then want to give you excess insurance which costs a fortune.
Anyway I've discovered the solution! Search on compare sites for 'hire car excess insurance', now found cover for £33 instead of theirs at about £160 for my week of hire - and much nicer company it looks like in the reviews, instead of this rather horrible outfit.
DO NOT USE
DO NOT USE! Sounds too good to be true, that’a because it is! Said they found a small pealing of the tyre, once the car had been returned. Charged us a RIDICULOUS amount! And then over a MONTH later, emailed again saying we owe an additional £6, plus a £60 admin fee! HONESTLY USE A DIFFERENT COMPANY!
Will leave you stranded with no car
We booked a car online then showed up at the airport and they said they had no cars and did nothing to help us, leaving us stranded with all our bags after having travelled all day!
Rental terms did not match booking e-mail (Croatia)
I recently rented a car via the Alamo website at Zadar airport. The e-mailed terms stated a 300 eur deposit will be required and the collision damage waiver (CDW) would be 800 eur.
In reality, the location offered only third party protection (without CDW) and the deposit was 1600 eur. Not having a CDW often invalidates car excess insurance policies.
I have not been able to get an answer from support how the e-mailed terms can differ so much from reality.
The car itself was fine. However, because of the risks as outlined above, I would avoid Alamo and Enterprise, at the very least in all of Croatia.
I rented a car from Stansted airport…
I rented a car from Stansted airport the salesman advised me to get super cover , I ask what is super cover the salesman tells me it covers everything incase you damage the car. I end up paying for the highest level of cover that apparently covers everything incase car is damaged. I then get contacted week later being told front bumper was scratched I owe them money. I refused to pay because I was told clearly at Stansted airport car hire that the highest level of insurance covers everything nothing to pay if car is damaged. When I collected the car they told me they didn't even have to do a walk around check because I had super cover it didn't matter. "No matter what happens you don't pay anything extra" they were salesmans words. Next time I go there I'm going to record them because this is what they say to everyone but clearly it's a lie.
Poor customer service and alot of waiting
Waited more than 30 minutes to get the car, eventough I arrived 1 hour later then reserved.
And gave me a car which was out of Adblue after 1 hour and approx 60 miles of driving.
And charged me fuel for 1 litre of diesel plus administration fee becuase the tank wasn't 100% full.
Additional billing without permission
Was billed extra for petrol despite returning car with same level of fuel.
Just plain thieves.
Not refunded my deposit after a month
Not refunded my deposit after a month. (Alamo Varna Airport Bulgaria) Instead of blocking the money they actually withdrew it from account also. Unless a refund is imminent I will need to report it to my credit card company as fraud and commence a prosecution. Stay well away!
Appaling and unfair approach to…
Appaling and unfair approach to assessment of "damage" on return of car. Apparently there was damage to one of the tyres. It was not clearly visible and only just detectable running fingers all over the tyres. There is no way of knowing if it was there when we took the car. They did not provide a close review of tyres when we took the car. They say it wasn't "as the car would nit have been given out if that mark was there". Oh right, that must prove it then.... They of course have no way of proving that. Disgusting way to treat customers and we most certainly won't use them again. Treat your customers with respect Alamo not as simply a way to milk what you can.
Stressful, Unreliable & Unhelpful!
Only hire from Alamo if you want a stressful holiday were you lose days dealing with car issues!
We picked up our car from Edinburgh Waverly Station at 4pm on Friday 28 July excited to commence our roadtrip to see the country side of Scotland. On Sunday 30 July we were blessed with great weather and commenced our road trip of the Isle of Sky. We didn't get far, less than 30 mins into our drive a warning light came on for the engine, then we lost complete power and the car cut out. Great we were half way up a hill! After reserving down and finding flat ground the car was turned off. We were not in a safe position though. We restarted the car and in worked okay. We continued to drive a little further to find a safer location. Whilst driving the warning light came on again. We pulled over and called roadside assistance as we were now in a safe location and we didn't want to keep driving a car that could lose power on us.
Whilst we were waiting for assistance we called Alamo offices (several different numbers and attempts later we were finally on the phone to someone). We asked what the next steps would be if the car was not driveable. They said we would have to go back to Inverness (over 3hrs each way) to collect a replacement car. Essentially losing a whole day of our limited travel time!
After over an hour of waiting assistance arrived only to say that the error was not appearing and that they can't find any faults at this point in time with the vehicle. They recommended driving it for the rest of the day. By this stage we had already lost most of our morning so we took the mechanics advise and continued to drive the car. The remainder of the day the stress of the car consumed us. Every time we got back in the car we were worried we might get stuck on the side of the road. You pay a lot of money for a hire car for piece of mind and freedom. Two things you do not get with Alamo Hire Car!
We manged to get through the day and return to our accommodation. On Monday 31 July we started the car, only this time to get an engine light! We sussed out the car in the driveway and it stalled on us. This time we called Alamo Offices directly and asked if we can get a replacement vehicle. Inverness confirmed they had replacement cars available but that we need to get the car to them. We said we were not comfortable driving the car 3hrs given the issues it is presenting. They said we can get a tow and to call roadside assistance and ask for one. We called roadside assistance they can't offer a tow without inspecting the vehicle first.
After waiting almost two hours, roadside assistance shows up. This time they see the engine light. They suggest to clear the error and allow us to drive the vehicle to Inverness rather than waiting for a tow (as one wont be available to late in the evening, meaning if we were to get it to Inverness we'd potentially not be back to Skye until after 9pm). On the mechanics advise we commencing driving the car. The mechanic was super helpful and suggested we call Alamo and ask if they have any cars in a more local garage (only about 1hr away). So we call Alamo they say they will check and call us back. We don't hear from them for over 30mins so we call back. They said they are still looking into it. So we commence driving to Inverness. The day was getting on and we need to have this sorted ASAP or we will be without accommodation.
About 20 minutes into our journey we receive a call back confirming they have car at the garage in Kyle (1hr away). However this vehicle is smaller than what we currently have. We don't mind we will take the smaller vehicle for piece of mind when driving (plus not driving for 6+ hrs).
Arriving at the garage the staff swap over the vehicles and say we are good to get on our way. We drive less than 10 minutes away to get a warning light about tyre pressure. You have got to be kidding! We drive back to the garage. The mechanic checks it and confirms we are good. We leave again. This time we drive about 1hr away and the message appears again. We continue to our stop as we have lost the day dealing with the car swap over. We go and do our activity.
The next morning we get in the car. This time the error message appears straight away!! Two cars, neither of them working! Currently on the phone trying to work out what car related run arounds we will have to do today.
Okay company.
We rented the car in London and handed it over in Standsted.
We had to wait 1 hour to get the car delivered.
And they were also rather slow to return our deposit of £220, but got it after a month.
But all in all an okay company.
I was met with patience and helpfulness…
I was met with patience and helpfulness from Chris (Christian) at Dublin airport when I picked up my car on 30th June 2023. I needed time to ensure I understood where the controls on the are were and Chris took his time, explained the detail and assisted me.
When I returned my car, in error, I left my reading glasses on the passenger seat, checked in then realised my mistake. I returned back to Alamo but my hire car had already been returned back to be cleaned. Cassie at the Alamo office contacted a member of her team who quickly collected and returned my glasses back to me, ensuring I didn't miss my flight. Thankyou Chris and Cassie, Excellent Customer Care !!!
Perfect car hire experience
Perfect car hire experience. Great car. Everything went smoothly during check out and return of the car. Deposit returned in a day or two. Great customer service.
After a month and a half our deposit is not returned!
Extremely poor in after sale service. We returned the hired car on 3rd June 2023 in Varna airport in Bulgaria and were told our deposit would be returned in a few days? But our deposit of £412.35 has not been returned to our credit card which we pay a high interest. We have emailed the hired car company and 46 days passed without deposit return. Be extremely careful if you want to use this company. Also the carflexi. Com. We are very disappointed.
Beware Beware Beware
Beware Beware Beware
The Alamo at the Edinburgh Airport has a 2x3 card system that measure damages to a returned rental car. If you don't buy Alamo's insurance there's a good chance you'll be charged because Cameron and Tom are determine to find something. There were a few rock nicks that the car received from driving on narrow Scottish roads, gravel/rocks everywhere and oncoming semis driving at a high rate of speed in the opposite direction. These nicks were just beyond the 2x3 measuring car. There were NO dents or scratches on the car. I was charged 1500 pounds ($1,625.39) and was told by Tom the manager that the car was damaged and unrentable! Alamo held the$1625.39 for a month before I was reimbursed $1,280.33. Alamo has lost a customer!!
Very positive experience
I have to write this review because I have seen so many negative reviews here. My review is very positive. The company is part of Enterprise Rent-A-Car. We rented from them through a third-party website.
The whole process was smooth. The staff at Amsterdam Airport were friendly and professional. They were meant to close the office at 11pm but they stayed later for customers who were getting there after 11pm.
We needed to change the return time of the car by a few hours. They were very flexible and we had to pay no extra charge. We really appreciated this.
The car was excellent, clean and nearly new.
In short, a very positive experience and would definitely use them again. Thank you Alamo and Thank you Entreprise!
Thanks God I found Alamo
I rented my car at Bristol Airport, and it was a very smooth experience from the beginning to the end; I asked at the desk for an automatic gear car, and they offered me a car for a special deal price. I will stay with Alamo forever. Thank you
The battle of the Alamo!
The worst car hire experience in the world. Arrived to be greeted by someone who claimed I would wait no more than 15 minutes. Then the “computer system crashed”. I stood outside in what I assumed was a first come first served group and waited 40 minutes for someone to assist. Then I was called to stand on a different part of the forecourt so I could wait in a different place. After 1 hour 9 minutes I was invited to stand inside behind 6 people all of whom arrived after me. I queued for another 20 minutes. So I could finally be allocated a car. My observation I. That time was a great amount of running back and forth from the staff to no obvious purpose. Alamo making the simplest things excruciatingly painful.
