Do not use Alamo if travelling to Helsinki!

After returning a hire car at Helsinki Vantaa Airport, Alamo incorrectly charged me for excess mileage. I drove 180km but they claimed I drove over 2,000 km. They then admitted that the excess mileage was due to a technical error in their system. Alamo later admitted this error in writing and refunded the incorrect charge.

Before this was corrected, the charge caused my account to become overdrawn. Alamo never contacted me about the issue - instead, I had to chase them myself, including making international calls to a foreign number, which cost me money.

Despite admitting the mistake was theirs, Alamo refused any compensation and denied responsibility for the financial impact and out-of-pocket costs their error caused.

The car itself was fine, but the billing error, lack of communication, and refusal to take responsibility make this a service I would not recommend.

Long queues at the Rovaniemi Airport…

Long queues at the Rovaniemi Airport office meant waiting over two hours, even though I had completed the online check-in—there’s no self-check-in option, so everyone ends up in the same line.

The first car I was offered had a cracked windscreen running across the right side of the field of view and along the bottom. I refused the vehicle, and the staff were very friendly and understanding. They quickly arranged a replacement and even offered a complimentary “return empty” fuel option.

However, a car with a damaged windscreen should never have been offered in the first place. It’s illegal in most European countries, and I assume similar rules apply in Finland. Good staff, but the long wait and poor initial vehicle condition were disappointing...

Our flight was delayed

Our flight was delayed, so we arrived after working hours. The self-check-in machine was updating, and we waited nearly an hour. Then at the parking area, the key pickup machine showed our info correctly but the key compartment was empty.

We had to take an Uber home at 2:30 AM and come back the next day to get the car. We were told the car was upgraded, but it was clearly the same. Also, we were told it had no damage, yet it had two big scratches and a loose right wing — we have photos and videos.

I called to report everything and was told someone would follow up, but I’ve heard nothing since. Overall, a frustrating and poorly handled experience. Wouldn’t recommend, especially for late arrivals.

A night on the Airport floor. Thanks to alamo.

A pure catastrophe! We landed at Helsinki Airport Late at night. The Alamo Station was closed and we should get our keys from a maschine. This did not work and it was impossible to reach somebody over the phone. We ended up sleeping in front of the station on the floor. The next Morning we actually got our car - and an email adress to complain. Unfortunately the email was wrong. Fitting to the Rest of our experience….
