What a scam!! Do NOT use them!!

What a scam from a company whose software I have been using for more than 10 years. They've suddenly disabled all of my Applian software and require me to buy a new licence. Needless to say I refuse to pay any more as the licences I paid for was supposed to be lifetime, not a subscription. They will go out of business very soon judging from the reviews they have been getting.

Rip-off

Like most other reviews for Applian, I'm not happy with the way the license expires. When I first used Applian products some years ago I was not told that the license would expire and that I would have to pay again for the product to carry on working. However, it did a good job and so I paid again over the next few years. When I paid for the 2024 versions of their products I suddenly started getting a tab open on my browser advertising their NetOptimizer (this URL is now also being flagged by Malwarebytes as a risk). This happens every time I use the Replay Media Catcher 2024. This is something you expect to happen on free versions, not on one you have paid for. Even though I usually pay for their complete package, I only ever really use Replay Media Catcher, so I won't be renewing their product again and in future will use Video DownloadHelper, a free addon available on Firefox.

Bunch of cheating sharks

Bunch of cheating sharks. Story goes like this.
Some years ago I bought your full replay package. Installed ok, and after a couple of issues, which you failed to mention of different ways to setup on different machines. All sorted, but some time later you did an upgrade that I bought but was unable to install - your sotware just stopped during the install. When I contacted you you claimed to be unable to help, despite being sent screenshots etc! So the upgrade was a waste.

Now gone to use the original software and it says I can't unless I buy a new upgrade. The original software was never supposed to be timelocked to mandate upgrades! Swindled!

They don't like reading their own terms and coditions they pointed me to.No one in their right mind would lock operation into unspecified updates and no prices. Could be £10,000 for 6 months!
Instead you read what you did sign and supports my case.
"RMC15899954377590A-1233 for Replay Video Capture has expired. In order to keep using the latest version we suggest that you upgrade your license."

I don't want the laest version, just the one I bought to carry on working - I've done that once and got nowhere nor would they help if you do! Just want your money, should as a techy realised that when you have to adjust setup for your machine an undocumented - shakey software!
Their response
Your registration code has expired on 2024-12-25
To which the chunk they are referring tois in support, not time limited which when you do read(further below) says the opposite!
That's a registration for support I think you will find, ceratainly taken as such, which I didn't get and are you looking at the original or the renewal? I'm being told it's stopping any use other than demo. There was never any mention of time limited use! So should be able to use the original version. It was certainly not made clear, thus breaking UK law

Their T&C's the way it works you loadthe demo version, paythe fee and it's "irrivocable", certainly not time locked.
If you are refering to

2.2 Registered License. APPLIAN grants the LICENSEE an irrevocable, non transferable non exclusive LICENSE to install and use the SOFTWARE in UNRESTRICTED MODE in respect of one computer at the same time or as provided by the TERMS (if any), provided the LICENSEE pays an additional fee to APPLIAN to obtain a license key and register this license key with the SOFTWARE and allows the SOFTWARE to access applian.com and applian.securesites.com to verify the license key.

That is a "support warranty" at best, and Applian were paid the additional fee - hence I have the licence, - it actually says "irrevocable" which is something you didn't want to say, as would clash with other terms which say if I were to break other clauses! It does not limit use, quite the opposite!

When realising they were beaten they just stopped answering, realising I wasn't going to waste more money on another upgrade that properly won't install either!
Clealy shows they've put in changes to stop their software working whenever they want more money, completely breaking the terms of their own agreement. "Irrevocable" is very different fromtwo years or next update!
I'm a techy and short of disassembling their code to take this feature out you are stumped by these dirty swindling sharks! A lot of money for very shakey software which is time/version locked when it's operation is permitted by a licence whichsays "irrovocable". Avoid or waste your money!

Applian will not advertise that their software is subscription based. 1 year later the software goes into "TRIAL MODE", meaning NON-FUNTIONAL

Just like all other reviews you'll read on Trustpilot. Applian (CURRENTLY 72% NEGATIVE REVIEWS). This company will disable the customer from using the software after 12 months. THEY DO NOT MENTION ANYWHERE ON THE APPLIAN WEBSITE THAT THEIR SOFTWARE IS SUBSCRIPTION BASED. You are led to assume that their software will function for the life of your computer, WRONG! I wrote them several times and just received a response that I will have to purchase a new license. When I asked them where it is stated that the software would go into "TRIAL MODE" after a twelve month period, they just gave me the same response ("Sorry, you will have to buy another license"). DON'T SUPPORT THIS COMPANY. THEY ARE DISHONEST!!!
Until Applian clearly posts of their website that the customer will have to purchase a license every year for each of their products, I will continue to make posts on Google Reviews and the many other consumer review sites.

This company is in a lot of trouble

This company is in a lot of trouble. PayPal appears to have stopped dealing with them. I complained and they said they had fixed the PayPal problem but it is still not working. So I tried to order by credit card. The site stopped me, stating that I had not completed my Captcha, but no box was on screen to complete. They gave another screen to order on and that worked. I am very concerned that a company that sells software has so many bugs on its payment page. I think I paid so I tried to print the receipt. I received 47 activation codes over 4 pages. It printed out on 7, yes seven, pages of 0 USD, that is 47 times. I'm guessing they have a disgruntled software writer who is trying to sabotage their company. I tried a few other video editors and found Applian the easiest and most intuitive to use. It's such a shame they have gone downhill so catastrophically.

Scammed. They disable your software remotely and ask you for more money. Fortunately, there's a way around it

One of the many customers that got their product disabled remotely. One day I was using it, the next day it said that the registration code was expired.
I got an absolutely absurd reply from support that basically told me to pay again.

Needless to say, I won´t be upgrading ever again.

SOLUTION!!
I found an easy way to circumvent their pathetic extrotion scheme. Simply disconnect your network before starting the software, it will complain that it cannot connect but will start in your rightfully purchased way, then turn on the network again. Thanks to this, I can use again what I bought.

Forced to purchase an update when my software had no expiration date

In March of 2022 I purchased an upgrade to Applian Technologies Replay Capture Suite. I've been a long time user of this product and am very pleased with the software. Exactly one year later my Registration Code "expired" and the software was no longer usable. When I purchased the upgrade nothing was said about their being an expiration date for the product. This problem never occurred with any previous versions of the software.

I have an older computer that works well with older versions of the Capture Suite. There is no reason for me to do an upgrade. What I have now is fine and should work indefinitely as long as I stay with my current computer and operating system.

When I contacted their Customer Service department to complain I was offered a 25% discount on the cost of repurchasing the software which I had already paid for. Again I contacted them to protest this unfair treatment and was ignored. I am flabbergasted by this company's greed and lack of integrity over their contractural obligations. In the past I always had good experiences when dealing with them but something terrible has happened recently. It's a common problem, and so sad, to see a good company lose its way and go bad in the computer software marketplace.

I purchased my Replay Media Catcher…

I purchased my Replay Media Catcher suite several years ago. Then I was persuaded to purchase licenses for higher versions.
I ended up paying for versions 7-8-9 even when I did not need to do so.
Last months I decided to use version 9, (already paid) and the software would not work because they wanted me to upgrade to version 10. Since the versions I purchased (7-8-9) did not have expiration date I sent text and emails to customer support, and they do not reply. This is a rip-off.
I advise to everybody not to buy anything from applian, otherwise you will have to pay for ever.

I have no issue with them asking me to…

I have no issue with them asking me to upgrade and pay regularly as long as they update their capturing mechanisms in line with the changes in the field. This is in line with other companies like Tableau, SPSS, SAS, and so forth, i.e. SaaS: Software as a Service. I'd rather pay and get a 'proper' solution rather than resorting to free online services that may end up scamming me / jeopardising my computer.

SCAMMING USERS WITH MORE UPDATED SOFTWARE

ive been an applian user for around 15 years. always supported their products and purchased their pointless updates ...not any more.... around 4 months ago replay media capture started saying my license was expired... reached out to applian no reply.. seen similar issues on their forum and no one was replying... i paid and upgraded...that was four months ago... today RMC said it needs updating... i updated and apparantly now its the 2025 version and guess what THEY EXPECT ME TO PAY AGAIN.. theyve lost a customer and i urge every one to jump ship and leave them to rot. their are many alternatives out there nwadays, some even free. all they care about is scamming money for a products thats not even really updated.

Not good products

Keep having to update / repurchase products. Their music database has very few songs, so it cannot add info to MP3 files.

They should be removed from the software market

I am writing having read the negative reviews about Applians bad practices.Well done to you for complaining. When I was affected by Applians withdrawal of an already purchased product it felt really personal. I wrote complaining about their methods and bullying and they did not reply.
I could not believe that it has happened to others.
I have spent loads of money with them over the years what with upgrading AND full repurchasing. As a result I have looked elsewhere and now use
aTube Catcher. Its free, has all the useful processes of Applian software and plus it provides a Cast to TV.
Downloaders can donate monies if they want to.No pressure from the provider unlike Applian.
Applian do not deserve one star

Media splitter program

Tried using their newly downloaded media splitter software only to find their joining program for media within it crashes before completion corrupting original mp3 file as well as crashed copy. Trying to contact customer support is like going around in circles on their web page.
instead I have to use a free online program to join MP3 file then edit it to remove joins. Certainly gone down hill from what their programs used to be able to do. Would not recommend the media splitter software as you will receive no support but many web pages of FAQ's

They converted to subscription after purchase. No longer works.

I have used the Applian software for over 10 years, occasionally purchasing upgrades when it was useful for me. My software, only 2 years old, now reports that my registration code has expired. I did not buy a subscription. Do not trust this vendor, they have changed the purchase agreement AFTER purchase..
This is not a support issue, they have deactivated the software to coerce users to "upgrade" even though no significant features have been added.

I haven't had a bad experience...

I have used Applian products for years and haven't had the same issue as other reviewers. Maybe it is because I opt to upgrade to the newest versions. I haven't "not" paid to upgrade. I think it was $25 to upgrade all the products. I had used them maybe 4 or 5 times before and have used them about the same amount since. Being that I am using them for actually recording videos so infrequently, I may not see the same issues as others have reported. Having 5 recordings I used a few seconds of each in a presentation, I find worth having essentially paying $5 a piece. The products do what they advertise and have worked for me. Assuming they are selling some perpetual license, read the agreement before buying. Like I said, I haven't had issues with their products and they do what they advertise. I would recommend them for grabbing video to use in a presentation when you cannot just download them.

You are renting not buying this software

While their software is OK. Their site states BUY in reality you are leasing the application for 2 years. When queried Applian support acts as if I am the first to notice the issue. This trustpiolet tread shows many have this issue of "bait and switch".

I am also a victim of this upgrade scam…

I am also a victim of this upgrade scam they are running. This is the second time they have mentioned my license expired and made all versions I used inoperable or in a very limited demo mode. I was never notified rusty this was a limited term license yet they somehow managed to get away with turning their very average software into an annual subscription service..

Big Scam stay away from products from Applian

Big Scam stay away from products from this company.
As you can also read below also they nowhere on their site say it will only work for a limited time. After that the tools are useless as they revert to demo mode.
They say they can only support it for a certain amount of time which i can agree on with updates however in my opinion it should still stay functional and they just disable the whole program and force you to pay the full price with a "reduction" of 30 %. All the makings of a scam product just use the Xbox game bar in windows it's free and work just as stable.
