"Be aware"; seruious problems getting the deposit money back.

I have been struggling getting my money back since 2 months now. I rented a car with Auto Europe, Germany, and with the "Super Cover" option, i.e. 0 deductible. I had my car parked at a parking lot. A neighbor, while removing her car made some scratches to my car. That responsible lady left her phone number on my windscreen, later on also gave her insurance details. After the incident I immediately called the Auto Europe help line and informed them about the incident and described the scratches, the scratches were minute pencil-lines. The Auto Europe personal told me in this case you do not need a police report and they also confirmed that they have received all the necessary information/documents. However, after waiting 2 months, the AE personal replies me back saying that I will NOT get my money back because I did not submit them the police report. I do not understand the double-standards and the blame-game when I responsibly fed all the information right from minute 1, day 1, and I get timely assurance from your help desk that they have received all the necessary documents. The third person who did the damage also responsibly left their details, insurance papers signed etc. Yet I am refused of my hard earned money, Euros 550/-! without mistake of mine. Heavily disappointed by the Auto Europe experience.

ecxess refund programs

Don't make excess refund insurance in Auto Europe .
They don't cover many level such as accident with animal, unpaved way, violence etc.
Furthermore in any case , no matter what kind of accident they will demand police report.
they also will give you an answer only after 3 month.
Their are much better program in the market.

disgraceful service

It can be very cheap, but they are adding things that do not use . In my case, move to a country that never said I was going to visit. Then the customer relations for claims is demeaning. Also in claims service I was insulted and disrespected severely to reclaim what's mine
I repeat, will inform well what they will charge and above all read the fine print , can go three times with a direct agency . These are intermediaries who take advantage of the customer..

Automatic downgrade...

I rented a pickup through Autoeurope - I was kind of disappointed as the people at the Europcar counter said "It´s the Autoeurope rental"...

When I went to Pick up the car, it looked like something just of a Stock car track. Definately NOT what I expected of an assumingly international renting company. I had to change the windshield wipers, as they were as worn out as the rest of the vehicle!

I am aware that the Nice photos on the websites does not reflect the true picture, but I am not used to bring gaffa tape and buy additional spare parts when renting a car.

Just before returning the "car" the battery gave up, a mechanic was summoned but back at the office the team did not seem supprised that they had to push the "car" into the garage.

In brief, do not expect the same service going through Autoeurope as if you go directly to a rental company! Autoeurope has offered me a 10€ voucher - seriously! OMG that saved my day...

Unexpected costs !!

156 euro have just been charged on my credit card as a flat rate for toll roads in norway. In my contract and also confirmed by the Europcar agency in Oslo, these costs should have been charged on an actual basis and not flat rate (it would have been around 30 euros only !). I raised a complaint but didnt get any feedback !

DECEPTIVE, COSTLY AND INFURIATING.

I arrived in Bergamo to pick up a car I had rented through AutoEurope. (rented for Italy but operated through Auto Europe Deutschland GmbH)

When I arrived at the gold car branch (far from the airport), they told me that they could not give me a car because the credit card that i used (AND HAD ALREADY PAID WITH) was not accepted.

It seems that they would happily take the money, but not provide the service.

Their explanation was that it was a debit card not a credit card from which they need to freeze an excess of 1000 euro.

[my card does not operate as a debit card either by description or on any internet based website. it operated as a credit card, and any attempts to use it as a DEBIT card are rejected]

To resolve this, I offered to pay the entire amount of excess in cash, or allow the freezing of 1000 euro on my card. They refuse this, but tell me that they do not take any money from 'Auto Europe Deutschland GmbH' and in this case, i would be refunded by Auto Europe.

I speak to Auto Europe about this directly and the ustomer service agent in Germany tells me that there is nothing I can do, they will not refund me and I have to sort myself out from this outpost car rental company and 'deal with it'

I was obliged to pick up my wife in Northern Italy for our honeymoon and drive to Switzerland to hotel we had booked in the alps.

I hired a car last minute at the airport at 3 times the price, for half the number of days. (of course using the same 'credit card that Auto Europe subsidiary had rejected)

We missed the first night of the hotel booking. (-250CHF)

I was late by 8 hours to pick up my wife who had to wait at Milan Central train station.

IN TOTAL. LIQUIDATED DAMAGES AMOUNTED TO 780 EURO.

FOR YOUR OWN SECURITY, NEVER TRUST THIS COMPANY. THERE ARE PLENTY OF GOOD ONES OUT THERE.

UPDATE:
Please read the last reply:
This equates to the company saying to read the fine print.

the fine print is designed to unlawfully leverage money from customers.

To be clear, Auto Europe did not pay anything to the car provider as the car provider confirms they did not charge any money to Auto Europe.

Therefore Auto Europe stands to make much more money by NOT providing a service than providing one.

The fine print and their actions in this case are unlawful.

Their fine print is unlawful in both Common and Consumer law because the law states that in order to charge a person for a service you must provide that service. Auto Europe is not a car provider they are a ticketing agency. They did not provide a service or even make the service available.

So in this case their actions are unjust and illegal, and I assume they get away with this all the time.

If anyone who had the same experience as myself is interested in a class action suit you may contact me directly on this profile.

Be careful! They charge extra and don't return the funds!

The worst company and customer service I've ever dealt with! They have charged my mum with extra €200 when she hired a car back in June and we have been emaining them back and forth and no one has got back to us with any reply with regards to the funds. We've been bounced between different support teams and they keep asking for the same documents even thought we've submitted them at least 3 times now! The company clearly doesn't want to refund the funds they charged extra! Also extremly slow and underqualified customer service.

The don;t want to refund the €200 they charged extra

I advise everyone against this company! My mum has hired a car in Italy beginning of June and got charged extra €200 for nothing! She complained straight after but has been receiving emails asking her to translate all the communications to English, because they don't have customer support speaking her language! Since then it took about 15 emails being sent to them and they never replied with regards to the stolen funds. They keep asking us to send the same documentation that we've sent numerous of times. They are also directing us to different support teams/ links on the site. The customer support is lazy, slow and under qualified. Do not get anything from them, otherwise you will be charged extra and never refunded those funds.

AutoEurope / Hertz Premium car rental Madrid (one-way to Barcelona)

We rented a BMW 1 series car for a one-way trip. Although the reservation and voucher and all arrangements were fine, the condition of the car was not satisfactory. It was a Volvo station wagon with damage on all surfaces and over 60.000 km. Be careful about booking one-way reservations because I do not think you get the level of automobile that you pay for (since you will not be returning your vehicle to where you pick it up, the agency has little incentive to give you a vehicle in good condition).

We were simply cheated

We booked a car in Italy via Auto Europe. Car was perfect. We returned the car when office was closed. Well back home we first received a bill for a damage. No documentation just a bill all in spites the fact that we had paid full insurance. There was no damage on the car when we delivered the car back. Furthermore the administration charge for the damage was bigger than noticed in the contract. Confronting Auto Europe with the facts that we had full insurance and that the administrative charge were above what was mentioned in contract and that we delivered a car with NO damage Auto Europe simply did not respond…..

I totally advice against this company

I booked a BMW 318 one month in advance and when I got there they said they did not have any and gave me a Ford. They are not trust worthy, so I will never rent a car with them. I totally advice against this company.

Impossible to get the paid car

Impossible to get the paid car

I rented and paid a car online at Goldcar through the broker Autoeurope.de. In the airport for pick-up I was worried about the big queue at only goldcar. While I was in the queu I saw many customers who was denied to get their rented and paid car. The problem was that they only accepted credit cards....But all I talked with had credit cards. But the goldcar definition of a credit card is different from the international definition. I did not get my car neither. I had 4 different credit cards, and all defined and confirmed as credit cards by my bank. (I phoned them while I was in the queue to make sure that they could not cheat me). They said that my VISA cards was debit cards (they are wrong, because VISA cards are defined as credit cards abroad), my mastercard was also a debit card (also wrong, confirmed by my bank) and my Diners and American express (both credit cards) they do not accept. So no cards delivered in e.g. Denmark are considered as credit cards by Goldcar.....
Autoeurope: I have very often been very satisfied with your company, but I do not understand how you can collaborate with goldcar, since it´s impossible to make the guarantee for the security deposit in the airport. The do not accept any cards issued from a danish bank. I have not yet asked my money back for the paid car I never got delivered, and I will also require reimboursement of costs for Taxi etc, due to the delay I had after 2 hours queue in vain in the airport

Never again!

Our Ford Mondeo broke down after a few days, and we were promised a new car at Perugia airport. After having to organize transport with a promise of a refund, we were met by a less than customer friedly staff, that could tell us that he didn`t have a car and that he could not refund our taxi expenses. After some "negotiations", we could drive away in a small and old Lancia Ypsilon. After several attempts to get at bigger car, we resigned. We were in contact with Auto Europes contact (Hertz assistance) several times. So we were left on the Italian countryside with a small car, two small children and a lot of luggage which it was no rom for in the car. With a lot of help, we managed to get to our new destination og finally to the airport. When we delivered the car we explained again our troubles, and made another attempt to get a refund for our taxi expenses. We were promised a refund within 10 days.

When we came home we contacted Auto Europe and explained the situation. After almost 4 months they offered us a small refund for our troubles. In the meantime we had reminded autoeurope of the fact that we still had not been refunded for our taxi expenses (€160) as promised.

After again pointing out that no refund was made, Auto Europe answered:
"we have been checking the file that we opened regarding your case, and nowhere is mentioned that you also claim the taxi costs. Since now it is longer than 3 months and your case has already been closed, you will have to contact Firefly directly in order to get a refund. Besides, it was them who offered you directy this refund, and therefor it should be claim to them."

I do not know whether to laugh or cry.
