Hidden cancellation fee. Beware!

We’ve used AutoEurope many times. On the website, Autoeurope claims free cancellation. But in practice there is now a hidden 20 Euro fee for cancellation hidden in the fine print for Corona, even when you cancel straight away within 48 hours. Very disappointing.

Thanks for your review. You are right, in some cases, Auto Europe is now charging a fee for administration costs when a booking is cancelled. As you can imagine, the Corona pandemic has had, and still has, a massive impact on the tourist industry. Unfortunately this is also the case for car rental businesses - and for us as a broker. To process cancellations is also work, which under normal circumstances we are gladly taking care of for our customers for free. However, these unusual times have unfortunately required us to ask clients for unusual support.

We are confident that traveling will be getting back into people's lives again, and we will change our policy accordingly as soon as possible. We thank you for your understanding and your support!

20 EUR payment for "free" "cancellation"

If you look at the website Auto Europe has an option to cancel the reservation. However, if you open the cancellation section on the website - there is nothing except a proposal to give you a "bonus" if you "postpone" your reservation i.e. the option "cancellation" disappears

Moreover, they added a new condition of the cancellation: 20 EUR for the cancellation due to "coronavirus" i.e. I signed the contract on one conditions, suddenly I am obliged to pay 20 EUR for the service that was "free"

Update: I was forced to write an email, then another email and finally my reservation was cancelled and money were returned. As a result I gave 3/5 instead of 1/5

STAY AWAY FROM THEM, CHEAP PRICES MEANS CHEAP SERVICE!

Rented with them before, but if you have to contact Customer service, you're lost.
Local renting company was overbooked. AutoEurope advised me to find a local rental company. Extra expenses would be covered.
After one and a half month I still dont have my money back, any conrete answer or sollution.
Customer Service Center fails to communicate clearly. Also no complete responses. It took these geniuses two weeks to find out that they couldn't open my receipts.

Aanvulling: Ik krijg nu eindelijk een antwoord, maar het verkeerde bedrag zal worden uitbetaald zonder toelichting. Het wordt alsmaar erger! Ik zou willen dat ik nul sterren kon geven.

Het is mogelijk dat wij voor de verwerking moeten wachten op een antwoord van het verhuurbedrijf waar u eigenlijk bij had geboekt. Dat kan soms meerdere weken duren, eer wij een antwoord hebben, en derhalve kunnen wij in zo'n geval ook niet sneller antwoorden. Hartelijk dank voor uw begrip,

Ik ben helaas helemaal niet tevreden…

Ik ben helaas helemaal niet tevreden meer met AutoEurope. Ik heb meerdere malen een auto geboekt met AutoEurope en dat ging goed. De laatste keer heb ik geboekt en betaald met een American Express card, maar bij het ophalen van de auto bleek dat de American Express kaart niet geaccepteerd werd bij Interrrent en kreeg ik de auto niet mee.
Ik heb opnieuw moeten boeken en betalen voor een auto met een kaart van mijn vriendin. De auto was echter direct aan iemand anders verhuurd (bij Interrent hebben ze dus even DUBBEL GEVANGEN)
Na bellen met AutoEurope bleek dat op pagina 5 van de voorwaarden in zeer kleine lettertjes (zeker op een mobiel waarmee veel klanten op locatie naar de voucher kijken) staat dat Mastercard en Visa de enige geaccepteerde kaarten zijn. WAAROM, krijg ik dat niet bij het boeken meteen duidelijk te zien??! Dat is een vorm van misleiding, daarnaast ontvang je de voorwaarden ook pas NA HET BOEKEN EN BETALEN bij Auto Europe! Totaal achterlijk.
Vervolgens wordt ik na heel vaak geduldig bellen en afwachten steeds afgehouden.
Ik had als vaste klant in ieder geval IETS verwacht van coulance naar mij toe, DE HELFT MISSCHIEN?
Zeker omdat ik na het probleem mijn vertrouwen behouden heb WEER via AutoEurope geboekt heb in de veronderstelling dat men wel een beetje klantvriendelijk zou zijn. We zijn nu meer dan 3 maanden verder en ik geef ze een laatste kans om mijn vertrouwen terug te winnen. Misschien leest iemand van AutoEurope dit nog...

I am unfortunately not satisfied with AutoEurope anymore. I booked a car with AutoEurope several times and it went well. The last time I booked and paid with an American Express card, but when collecting the car it turned out that the American Express card was not accepted at Interrrent and I did not get the car.
I had to book again and pay for a new car with a card from my girlfriend. However, the car was rented out directly to someone else (so at INTERRRENT THEY CASHED TWICE)
After calling with AutoEurope, it appeared that on page 5 of the conditions in very small print (certainly on a mobile that many customers use to view a voucher on location) it is stated that Mastercard and Visa are the only cards accepted. WHY, do I not immediately see that clearly when booking ??!
This is a form of DECEPTION, and you will also receive the terms and conditions after BOOKING AND PAYING at Auto Europe!
Totally idiotic.
Subsequently, after very frequent and patient calls from my side, I am kept at a distance.
As a regular customer, I had expected some more leniency. Certainly because after the problem I have retained my confidence and booked AGAIN through AutoEurope under the assumption that people would be a bit more customer friendly.
It's now more than 3 months later and I give them one last chance to regain my trust but to be honest my hope is gone.
Maybe someone from AutoEurope who IS willing to help will read this.

Bedankt voor uw review. Het spijt ons zeer te lezen dat u deze keer niet tevreden was met onze dienstverlening. Wat betreft de voorwaarden, deze kunnen bij elke huurauto die onze zoekmachine als zoekresultaat laat zien, individueel geraadpleegd worden in de uitkiesphase - dus alvorens de boeking te voltooien. Verder worden deze voorwaarden 1:1 op de voucher overgenomen zodra de boeking voltooid is. Hierbij is de mogelijkheid gegeven deze boeking tot 48 uur voor ophaaltijdstip gratis te annuleren, mocht dan blijken dat de klant bijv. niet over een door het verhuurbedrijf geaccepteerde creditcard beschikt.

Het spijt ons dat de verhuurpartner uw Amex kaart niet geaccepteerd heeft. Aangezien deze verhuurpartner uw boeking voor 100% aan ons heeft doorberekend, kunnen wij jammer genoeg niet overgaan tot restitutie.

Customer service far below norm

Very hard to speak to someone if you have problems. Unreachable customer service by phone, takes them weeks to answer e-mail, just getting a simple restitution is a pain.

Terrible company

Terrible company: deals with rental companies that don't honor the booked car and insurance and autoeurope does not offer any help to resolve this: it's up to the customer at the rental agencies desk to decide to start his holiday by either rewarding scammers or wasting the first day of his holiday to find another rental car...
Only plus is that they gave us our money back.

You've had your chance to act when I spent more than an hour on the phone with different agents on the first day of my holiday. Like I said in the review: I got no support from you with regards to the local agent and the only positive point is that you refunded... leaving it to us to find another rental company on site.

AutoEurope websitebug makes mistake in…

AutoEurope websitebug makes mistake in Confirmation Voucher, we mail with specific request to correct, after 2 days some lazy agent only replies with a default email demanding we call them, not any solution, question, explanation or customer service whatsoever. We immediately cancelled our reservation via Auto Europe!

Very bad experience!

I have booked a rental car with Auto Europe and wanted to pick it up at Glasgow airport. My creditcard didn't work so the whole booking couldn't get through. We were not allowed to use the creditcard of my partner. When we called Auto Europe the lady on the phone said she coulnd't do anything for us, only book another car. But she said, we could call the customer service after one week to get a refund. I just called the customer service and they say they never give a refund in this situation. I feel betrayed and want to advice everybody to never book a car with Auto Europe. When everything goes according to plan, it will probably be fine, but when things work out differently, they are not of any use at all. Very bad experience!
