Stephen Parker and his colleague Joanne Crawshaw have helped me with a number of sales and purchases recently, including for my new home in December 2024. They've always been very efficient when dealing with our case, especially when compared to the rest of the solicitors out there that they have to deal with. Would definitely recommend for those looking for an easy and reliable solicitor.

I have had great experience with Barcan + Kirby when they represented me in the Bristol family court. I was well represented through their solicitor, Jeremy Fagan throughout during all of the hearings which lasted several months until the 15th of July when the last hearing took place. Jeremy was great and did a fantastic job on behalf of Mariama Jobe.

Friendly and professional, an excellent investment to get expert, unbiased advice on a tricky boundary dispute.

i replied to an email from them, Mercy Khosa, after I had informed them that I wanted to discuss a Medical Negligence case that I had a letter of admittance and apology from the party involved, thus making it a straight forward and easy case to gain commission/payment from.
I waited 17 days before ringing them after not having received a reply from any individual from the company and was told that the person was on leave and the reason why I had not received a reply was because there was a "glitch" in the system. To me, there was no system, otherwise someone should and would have responded to the email I had sent almost 3 weeks previously, but evidently there was not a system set up, meaning numerous clients and potential clients were being ignored and forcing myself and maybe others too, to go elsewhere where simple emails are responded to in a decent amount of time rather than never.
If they cant be trusted to simply reply to emails or have a system set up so that clients and potential clients emails are dealt with, there's no way they can be trusted to deal with legal cases or even court cases.
Update, 23rd May 2023 - Again, I emailed Mercy Khosa on the 19th May to inform her that I had not received an email after 17 days, so please delete my contact details and I was not given the curtesy of an apology let alone a reply, yet because this review is now public, I get a response here, but not from the person who did not email me after 17 days. That speaks volumes.
As for meeting my standards, a simple email reply is not too much for anyone to ask, particularly someone who is trying to give you business and an opportunity to receive a good review too.
As for discussing it further, if I could not have a discussion about a quick and simple case, after waiting 17 days, then I have no faith in being able to discuss anything with you and nor do I wish to thank you.

Farah Akram at Barkan and Kirby Kingswood was absolutely terrible in handling our house move. Farah failed to inform us that we needed to sign and return by post a contract and mortgage deed until (when we asked if there was anything we needed to do) 3 days before our due exchange and completion date. Once this was done we then had a 5-day wait to draw down the mortgage - this caused immense stress and meant we had to delay moving until the following week. We fully expected Farah had caused the whole chain to fall through as the sellers had a hard deadline for schools, luckily we managed to agree a week's delay.
In the month before our exchange date, Farah also went on leave without telling us for 2 weeks and having not replied to 3 emails over a 2 week period prior which again very nearly made our house sale fall through. We asked to have another solicitor on our case but the manager told us Farah was an excellent solicitor and she had talked to her about the issues, however Farah then proceeded to incorrectly withdraw our deposit funds 3 times. I've never complained about anyone online before but honestly don't use Barcan and Kirby. Luckily my partner was a solicitor so knew what she was doing and we ended up cutting out Farah and doing it ourselves.
During 2022, I was dealing (as Executor) with the sale of my late parents' house. Having engaged Purplebricks as the Estate Agent, I was somewhat obliged to also utilise one of their panel solicitors, to handle the conveyancing.
Unfortunately, the process turned out to be too complex for said panel solicitor; due to an error when the house was built, the garage was not correctly registered with the Land Registry. After dithering for a couple of months, the panel solicitor informed me in November 2022 that they were unable to continue, and effectively dis-instructed themselves.
Meanwhile, my buyer informed me that she had a deadline, with her mortgage offer expiring in February 2023. Fear spread that the sale would fall through, unless swift action was taken.
Enter Barcan & Kirby (who had previously managed my parents' legal affairs).
Firstly, I dealt with James Bell, in their Litigation Team. He wasted no time in establishing that that the garage was registered with a company who had taken over the original builders. He subsequently arranged for the title of the garage to be transferred, in order to remove this blockage on the sale.
Secondly, I dealt with Asha North, in the Thornbury Conveyancing Team. Asha was aware of the deadline that she was working to, and efficiently ensured that the sale was successfully completed with a week to spare before the buyer's mortgage offer expired.
I am pleased to say that the sale has now been completed, and both the buyer and myself are overjoyed that Barcan & Kirby literally saved the day.
