Lied about unsubscribing

I ordered a "free" case of 10 beers where you only pay 5 pounds postage through a discount code offered by a sponsored youtuber, intending to simply take the good deal and then unsubscribe after my cheap case of beer but as many many other people have detailed, their unsubscribing procedure is abysmal, and to make matters worse they clearly lie.

First of all they have a mandatory waiting period of 24 hours after signing up before they even allow you to click "Cancel my subscription" even though there is absolutely no reason for this to be in place other than as an attempt to make you forget about cancelling. Secondly, once you CAN click this button, you are given page after page of extremely shady links to other deals and websites, the kind of ones that are like "complete 10 surveys for a free 10 pound tesco gift card!" or to their other sister services such as wine52 etc. Third, after you navigate this absolute minefield of ads and guilt-tripping messages, the "cancel" button is hidden in an unassuming small font compared to everything else at the very bottom of the page sandwiched between yet more deals, and clicking on it just directs you to a page saying you may only cancel via a phone call between the hours of 9-5 and cancellation is not possible online.

All of this is shady enough, and the line itself is a nightmare and the operator on the other end will push as many ads and attempts to change your mind on you as possible - BUT, somehow it gets worse. Right here on Trustpilot they are replying to everyone who mentions their nightmarish phone cancellation method by saying "We have streamlined the process and you can now cancel via twitter DM, facebook messenger or our help desk" BUT THIS IS A LIE.

Going to the helpdesk and selecting the Topics "My subscription > I want to cancel" brings up a pop-up that simply tells you to call them to cancel, this pop-up locks you out of the help desk entirely, so they are outright lying not just on their site but on here too as there is no way to cancel through the helpdesk as they claim, it just leads back to the phone cancellation.

As if all this wasnt enough, even for people who DONT want to cancel their subscription, there are shady practices and blatant false advertising on their website - such as offering a button asking "Do you want 2 free beers next month?" and when you click this it charges you extra and the beers are absolutely not free as advertised, the button should be "Would you like to pay extra for more beers?".

I highly recommend avoiding this company, and if you have the displeasure of dealing with them without beforehand knowing the way they treat their customers, be ready to have to contact your bank in order to resolve issues with beer52, and please make complaints to governing bodies and consumer protection services such as the ASA/CMA/Citizens Advice regarding their false advertising, blatant lying and breaches of consumer law so that they are held accountable, it's the only way anything will change.

As a side note, they also have 2 different claimed and verified pages for their business under the same names: One as Beer52 and the other as beer52.com. This is to attempt to hide the sheer number of negative reviews left by people with the same experience, and I highly suspect the positive reviews on the newer listing to be in bad faith as they all claim easy cancellation as a keyword, which is demonstrably not true.

The most horrendous online scam I have…

The most horrendous online scam I have ever fallen for. Signed up to try the free box and paid just under 10£ for shipping.

The beers that are sent are of a horrendous quality. Really terrible flavours are added to accommodate people who really don’t understand or value anything on a traditional beer taste.

On top of this unsubscribing is nearly impossible. I unsubscribed immediately after trying the first beer. The website takes you through 6 pages where you consistently have to refuse to continue the subscription.

I thought it was done there, but NO. Today I got a notification that my next delivery has been shipped out. Turns out after all the cancellation pages there is a small section at the bottom that says you need to call the company to cancel. I have reported the company as fraud and will be sure to inform my community that this company is horrible and one to avoid.

Sad that your sales strategy is to harass and force people into your subscription.

Misselling and lies

They sold me a 2 box deal with "no commitment" and failed to disclose that it turned into a subscription that I had to cancel. They've seen the proof that they messed up but refuse to refund the money taken. They have continued to repeat lies regarding my case so I would warn anyone off trusting them - they double down even when presented with evidence. A company that refuses to acknowledge and rectify its mistakes deserves to be publicly shamed.

BEWARE THIS IS A SCAM COMPANY

BEWARE THIS IS A SCAM COMPANY
We got invited to have a box of beer (8 cans) for £5.95 of what we thought was a company trying to get itself known. Then somewhere in the payment section you are legally ripped off by Beer52. We spotted the email saying your order is being despatched and emailed to cancel within 1 hour saying don't send whatever your sending (as we had no idea who this was) and you cannot stop it because they will rip you off. We We spoke to Jack at Beer52 who was very polite and said I'm sure you will get your money back, you don't. You bounce emails to and fro with their customer service who do not/will not budge. You cannot stop the beer being dispatched either. WATCH OUT FOR THE PROMOTIONAL BEER BECAUSE THEIR IS NOTHING PROMOTIONAL ABOUT IT - YOU WILL BE SCAMMED. After posting your review you will get some type of reply through Trust Pilot saying your the problem. Fingers crossed Money Saving Expert will pick up on Beer52 as a scam company and warn more people. BEWARE

I opened an online account with Morrison and what I got was a scam artist!

I opened an online account with Morrisons and received an offer for free craft beer with only postage to pay. This morning I received a text informing me that my order was on its way. I had placed no order.
I contacted beer52 and was informed that I had signed up to a subscription at £27 pm.
I did no such thing!
I contacted beer52 and they cancelled my subscription without a refund and I am left with 8 beers and I don't even drink!
This is sharp business practice and I will try and inform the relevant authorities about this company.
This type of business borders on the criminal.

Cancellation process far too tedious.

Logistics of having to be in for deliveries of alcohol don't work for me. Not their fault, but they make it very difficult and tedious to cancel the subscription. Several 'are you sure' type steps on the website and then you have to call them. Spent a total 17 minutes on the phone listening to sales recordings. When they finally answered I had to listen to more of them trying to retain my custom from the call handler. No reason for it to be any more than two clicks on the website. Unsatisfactory.

Beware of the 'free' box

Signed up for a free box and ended up tied into a subscription. No communication to say that was the case or that another box was on the way just a £27 charge to my account. Can't cancel online, you go round in circles after multiple pages of being badgered into staying with various extortionate offers to finally be given a contact number. On hold for 10 minutes and get through to an OTT sickly sweet customer service representative that doesn't give a toss and still badgers you with more offers. Awful company and the beer isn't great either, avoid!!!

DON’T SIGN UP

Really wished I had checked these reviews1st before going ahead.
Got “conned” into the “6 free beers” after a purchase of another website. Paid £6.95 for delivery and guess what? No beers arrived!
After eventually finding out that I had to call to cancel, got through to a rude person who couldn’t wait to get me off the phone! When asked if I could get a refund on the delivery charge, I was told she doesn’t have access to that system (strange for a small company!) and that someone would contact me to today … after seeing these reviews I won’t be holding my breath.
So annoying that companies like this still operate … I suppose you only have to catch a couple of suckers every now and again to keep going.

Duped into a subscription from an offer of free beers

Like many others I was duped into a subscription on the back of an online Argos purchase where you only pay for postage. It wasnt clear anywhere through the process I was signing up to a subscription (£27 for 8 beers a month!). Having tried to cancel it takes you through several online pages tempting you to stay with the end result a phone number to call. Rang the number and took about 5 minutes for someone (American accent) answered and cut me off going through the process. Like ithers I've contacted my bank to cancel future payments.

Give Beer52.com a wide berth.

There was an offer through LNER account holders of a box of free beer with only the postage to pay for which I sent off for. The site also offered a subscription to sign up for which I declined……. Just recieved notification that I’m being sent my next box and been charged £27. Crooks!

Scam

Enjoyed the first case of wine they sent out with the voucher, failed to show any evidence of me joining them with a membership so second month comes and they take £36 out of my account.
I witnessed the transaction around half 7 in the morning and called them at 9am on the dot to cancel membership and cancel order, ended up cancelling membership (whilst trying to persuade me to just pause it instead and buy more things) but refused to cancel order because ‘it was already being sent off from the warehouse’ despite the transaction saying pending in the bank. They really need to give customers an easier way of cancelling and open up their customer service the same time they open up them warehouses.
