Bait & Switch. Paid for 2ct Emerald. Got 1ct.
I purchased 2 pairs of earrings. The dimensions were accurate on both. The carat weight was the MAJOR downfall. The biggest offender was the more expense pair of earrings. I purchased for $2400. It was listed as having 2.2ct of Emeralds. However, when they arrived, the COA stated the carat weight was 1.13ct. It also did not specify the weight or quality used for the halo of diamonds. I wrote Belmont asking for clarification. How can you advertise essentially selling a whole pizza and have the audacity to send less than half. Their reply: “The 2.2ct weight is just an average”. What? No. So by that logic, 1/2 the lucky customers are walking around with 3 & 4 ct earrings to average out my 1 ct pair. Absolutely not. This company is from NYC. What I think happened, is they saw I was from Tulsa, OK and thought that surely this customer is going to open the box, say “ooh them earrings is real shiny!” And give them to my wife, without a second thought or checking the COA. No. I also told them that they were a gift for my wife *next month* on our trip to Ireland, but their return window is only 14 days. Inexcusable. I requested a return label twice with no response. The third request was made, informing them I would be in contact with my credit card company if I did not hear from them. Then they replied, stating they had sent a return label the day before. M’ham no. If you’re gonna lie about how many carats are in a pair of earrings, clearly you’d lie about the return label too. I gave 2 stars instead of one bc they provided free shipping and return shipping and did refund all of my money, but the “bait and switch” tactics of this company is deplorable. I took my refund and went to JR Emeralds, based out of Florida. They are a small, family company, and they took the time to give me exact size and weight measurements of the 4 Emeralds used to make my wife’s earrings. Their COAs are highly detailed, leaving nothing to question. They also said that there is always going to be slight variables in ct weight, but that a deficit of more than 1ct was completely unethical. If you do decide that you MUST go with Belmont Sparkle, request they send send you the exact specs of the emeralds used for YOUR piece, specifically the carat weight so they do not try and send you an “average” emerald, far below the carat weight you paid for. But if they are willing to lie about ct wt, can you trust the diamonds or Gold they use? Do you really want to spend money on a third party appraisal to get “discounted” emeralds? My advice, go elsewhere, and save your time and money.
