Drink were nice but it took ages for…

Drink were nice but it took ages for food to be prepared and brought to our table and it was a very small portion for the price. Which was a shame. I do like the chitea though.

We source the ingredients we use from other sustainable businesses that allow us to track everything back to where it came from, and to work closely with our suppliers in maintaining the super high quality that we work hard to show in all of our products. Everything we serve is made fresh to order by our expert chefs and baristas, who we pay fairly for the hard work they put in. Although we do our best to keep our prices as accessible as possible, they are calculated carefully to cover these costs as well as allowing us a little room to continue developing and growing as a business.

We really appreciate that our lovely customers may pay a little more to drink and dine with us than they would at the average chain coffee stores, but we like to think that knowing that everything has been made with the utmost care and attention by fabulous people who are passionate about what they do makes it worth those extra few pennies!

Please also accept our most sincere apologies if any unusual wait times weren't clearly communicated to you during your visit and you were left feeling let down by our service as a result. Please rest assured that I will pass your comments on to our Store Manager for them to follow up with their team to ensure communications about ordering are clear, and team members are aware and on-hand to offer a helping hand wherever it's needed!

Nevertheless, it's great to hear that you enjoyed your drinks! I really hope this helps to provide a little extra context and you'll come back to see us again soon, even just for a little treat! :)

Poached egg was overcooked

Poached egg was overcooked, bacon was solid and no one came to check if my meal was ok. I was on my own so couldn’t get up without loosing the table. Disappointing. More staff is clearly required- plus chefs who know how to poach an egg.

Had a previous pleasant experience in…

Had a previous pleasant experience in FEB but on this visit it was slightly ruined as the staff were not able to stamp by MAGIC app with drinks bought. They did try for an extended period to sort but were unable so the delayed interruption spoilt the visit and rather than offering say a free drink they left it in my court to try & get another stamp on my next visit. Unsure why they are using an APP that doesn't work-much easier to stamp a card like other coffee outlets rather than have this stress.

Stumbled across this place when I was taking my son out. Dog friendly, laid back, great place to work. Service was great. One of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had.

Unfortunately due to nationwide shortages of certain ingredients and products as well as limited availability of delivery drivers, we have been forced to react and make temporary changes or restrictions to our menu. Our team are working hard to react quickly and ensure that disruption remains minimal, however many of the stock issues we are facing are out of our control and require longer-winded solutions to fix.

We're continually reviewing our menu and carefully planning any updates around excluding things that have repeatedly been tough to get hold of and adapting our products as needed; please rest assured we're doing all we can to resolve this issue for the long-term!

Higher costs for less food

We’ve visited Bear a few times over the last few years and always happy with the food. On our latest visit they seem to have increased prices (which I understand - prices increase) but have dramatically reduced portion sizes. In addition I connected to their Wi-Fi that very clearly stated they wouldn’t spam me - selected no to marketing yet within 24 hours I had a marketing email and now I am receiving review requests.

Due to the recent economic shifts caused by the pandemic and Brexit, VAT reductions have ended and suppliers across our industry and many others have increased their prices, some quite dramatically. Unfortunately, this has forced us in to a position in which we have had to decide where we're able to absorb these increases and where we must pass some on to our lovely customers in order to continue our post-pandemic recovery and keep BEAR going.

Wherever we've been able to, we have kept any absolute necessary increases as minimal as we possibly can, however we really appreciate that our lovely customers may pay a little more to drink and dine with us than they would at the average chain coffee stores. Nevertheless, we like to think that enjoying our treats in a comfortable space, and knowing that everything has been made with the utmost care and attention by fabulous people who are passionate about what they do makes it worth those extra few pennies!

In relation to our Marketing Emails, these are automatically triggered when a customer logs in to our WiFi in-store and ticks the 'Marketing Permission' box. Any customer who does not explicitly give us permission to send them marketing communications will be excluded from this. Please rest assured that I will get in touch with the company that hosts our in-store WiFi and ensure that everything is working correctly; if you didn't provide marketing permission you should definitely not have received any emails from us. We take GDPR and customer privacy extremely seriously and will be investigating this as a matter of urgency.

Thank you again for providing us with this feedback. I really hope that you'll come back again soon - we'd love the opportunity to restore your faith back to where it was before! :)

We originally decided to stop taking cash at the beginning of the pandemic in order to reduce the risk of germs spreading between our customers and teams. Due to the ongoing and unpredictable shortages of staff, paired with the laborious behind-the-scenes work that taking cash brings with it, we have decided to continue to remain cashless for the time being, mainly to relieve some pressure off our teams. Nevertheless, we are continuously reviewing this so your feedback is incredibly valuable in helping us make informed decisions moving forward.

Bear is my favourite cafe in Derby

Bear is my favourite cafe in Derby. The food is absolutely gorgeous and is great for vegetarians and vegans, as well as meat eaters. There is a great selection of hot drinks, cold drinks and cocktails. It is suitable for working remotely, or for meeting with friends and family. The staff are all friendly and helpful.
