We visited without a booking and found…

We visited without a booking and found the service was great. The food was excellent. The attention we were given throughout our stay was brilliant. I would recommend Bear to anyone wanting good food at reasonable prices. The staff went above and beyond! Well done!!

A little BEAR at home

BEAR is my local (and favourite) coffee shop, so being able to brew my favourite Berry tea at home is fantastic. Will have to buy some for the office now too!

Really disappointed

Really disappointed. We had the sourdough toast with avocado and pea.
The sourdough toast was the but of the bread, there was only the slightest amount of avocado and just full of the cheapest ingredient of peas!!!!!
We had two lots and both were the but end of the bread, I don’t even know how that’s possible!!!
On one we had an additional portion of feta and this was the slightest amount of sprinkling on the top.
Overall extremely dissatisfied and disappointed!!

Poor value for money

So I have been here a few times and each time I was less impressed. This visit was my last.
I ordered sourdough (£3.90) toast and a side of bacon (£3.20)…when it arrived there were two scrawny pieces of rashers in a bowl, which didn’t even amount of one whole piece of bacon, let alone be enough of a serving for my toast. I was really disappointed and i’m not one to make a fuss but I asked the waitress if this is a normal size portion (clearly disappointed) and she just said yes that’s what a side portion is, didn’t seem bothered by my explanation on how small the portion was nor bothered I was clearly unhappy. Instead she offered to put more through, at another £3.20. Which would bring my toast and bacon up to approx £10. No thank you.
The other food we ordered wasn’t great value for money, pancakes which could be bought from supermarket covered in fruit and masses of chocolate. It just wasn’t worth £13. This will be the last time I visit Bear.
Overpriced, not value for money, and staff not very helpful or understanding, actually they couldn’t be bothered, and the toast was rock hard.

The star I gave is purely because the venue is pleasant and in a good location. It’s spacious and airy, and feels relaxed.

Awful service, great coffee

I have a subscription for their Hometown coffee. It takes over a week to arrive after payment and when it does arrive, the roast can often be 2 or 3 weeks old. I have e-mailed them about the coffee getting sent out not being as fresh as can be, but I never received a reply. So those points stop me giving them a 5 star review. What stops me cancelling my subscription, and giving them a 1 star review, is the fact that the coffee is fantastic.

Brunch menu

I booked Bear in Derbion for a family meal at 5 pm. I particularly wanted the brunch menu which said available all day on the website. There was no time limit stated on the website. I emailed with my booking and queried the time limit for brunch, but got no reply. When we arrived I asked about brunch again and was told it finished at 4 pm and no they would not make me anything from this menu. Very disappointed and also I didn’t realise you had to order from the bar for all 8 of us. So no dedicated staff member to look after us. Food okay, but sorry we won’t be back for a family meal with you again as not what we expected.
