Avoid Bespoke entirely

I can honestly say this is the worst company I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. We have recently won a court case against Bespoke Stairlifts, who were ordered to pay us compensation, interest, and court costs.

If you want to avoid months of stress and anxiety for yourself and your loved ones, please avoid this company.

We arranged for both an external and internal stairlift to be installed at my 90-year-old mother’s home. My mother suffers from Alzheimer’s and has very limited mobility, so these installations were essential for her safety and wellbeing. Numerous promises and guarantees were made by Bespoke (which is affiliated to Homelife Stairlifts), none of which were fulfilled.

The problems began when Bespoke severely damaged the Portland stone steps at the front of the house during the external installation. Several stone slabs were cracked, splintered, and broken, causing over £4,000 worth of damage. Despite this, Bespoke demanded payment for the external stairlift and stated they would refuse to install the internal stairlift unless we paid, claiming they would recover the damage through their insurance and reimburse us later.

This left our mother effectively trapped in her bedroom, unable to go downstairs or leave the house for hospital appointments with her carers. Under these circumstances, Bespoke’s insistence on payment before completing the internal installation felt completely unacceptable and coercive.

Unfortunately, the internal stairlift installation was almost as bad. During the initial survey, Bespoke promised:

The existing handrail could be moved so my mother’s knees would clear it

Her feet would clear the radiator at the bottom of the stairs

The tracks would curve around the balustrade at the top of the stairs

None of these promises were honoured.

After repeated failures and poor communication, Bespoke effectively stopped responding, leaving my mother with a useless stairlift and broken front steps. We were forced to spend a considerable amount of money fixing the issues ourselves.

This entire experience caused enormous distress to our family and, most importantly, to a vulnerable elderly woman who depended on this equipment to live safely in her own home.

Based on our experience and the outcome of legal action, I would urge anyone considering Bespoke Stairlifts to avoid them entirely.

Disgusting After Service! AVOID!!!!!!

My Mum purchased an Infinity Stairlift from Bespoke in August 2023. The swivel on the seat has broken so my Mum is unable to get upstairs. I called Bespoke to request an urgent call out for an Engineer to attend. Instead, I was called by the Warranty Department advising me that Mum’s stairlift was out of warranty and we could purchase additional warranty over 12 months for £82 per month😡I refused the additional warranty and asked once again for the Engineer to call me. I finally had a call advising me if the “New Company Policy” that if you didn’t agree to buy the additional warranty, they would not come out!! My Mum now can not use the stairlift and can not afford the £82 per month out of her state pension!!! What disgusting after service!!!!!! How dare they leave an 85 year old pensioner to struggle in her own home stuck downstairs!!!!!! Avoid this Company at all costs!! Great when you buy but downright disgusting service after end of 2 year warranty!!!!!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND COMPANY

From start to finish Bespoke Stairlifts we're amazing. The survey was not pushy and the installation was seamless. I would recommend this company to anyone in the market for a stairlift. All the others were pushy and more expensive.

Good customer service, excellent lift for a situation where "Bespoke" is exactly what it had to be.

Having now been using my Bespoke stairlift for about three months, I now feel in a much better position to give a more informed review.
Firstly, the installation was extremely complicated. It is up two flights of stairs with four (not quite) 180° turns, so it had to be “bespoke” in the true sense of the word. I had previously been in touch with a couple of other installers, but Bespoke seemed to be the only one who could (or was prepared to) do such a complicated installation.
The first two installation attempts did not go well because it didn’t fit correctly. However, the third attempt went well and the installation was excellent, the guide rails being very sturdy and rigid.
The chair is neat and folds up nicely when not in use so that anybody walking can get past it quite easily. It broke down after about the first couple of days of use, but Bespoke had an engineer out to look at it within a couple of hours. He diagnosed the problem and rectified it quickly and showed us what to do if it happened in the future.
The seat is on a swivel, and the chair will not work unless the seat is correctly positioned and locked. The “locked” position has a small amount of play in it, and occasionally I have to wiggle the seat to get it to go. The up and down control also has some play in it, and you have to find the correct spot to get the lift to work. Because of the layout of the house, the stairlift gets a lot of use and apart from these minor problems it works very well.
Customer service during the problematic installation was very good and I would like to pay tribute to Hannah who kept on top of the situation the whole time.
Four stars rather than five because of the seat and control problems, but otherwise very satisfied.

A Terrible Experience From Start To Finish

Choosing to buy a stairlift from Bespoke is one of the worst decisions I’ve ever made in my life (and I’m old!).

I can sympathise with the many reviewers who have given Bespoke one star here on TrustPilot, because based on my experience of spending over £5,000 on a stairlift from this company, the product is shoddily made and the company is very badly run.

If you are tempted to become involved with Bespoke, here are a few things to consider:

If you are a stairlift distributor and fancy signing up to become a 'Bespoke Partner', bear in mind that you will then be in direct competition with the manufacturer that is supposed to be supporting you, because Bespoke now sell directly to the public, via the new branch of their company called 'Homelife Stairlifts'. Google that name and you will see the website, selling direct. Scroll down and you will see that Homelife Stairlifts is owned by Bespoke.

If you are a member of public, there are several ‘red flags’ that should instantly warn you off dealing with Bespoke. Firstly, bear in mind that they are based in Bradford, so if you choose to buy direct from them, you will be dealing with engineers who have to travel all the way from Bradford, every time you need them.

Believe me, it’s an absolute nightmare.

You should also be aware that Bespoke have no ‘buy back’ policy and (based on my experience) NONE of the 10 big companies that buy back stairlifts in the UK will offer anything more than £50 for a used Bespoke stairlift, because (as they told me) ‘they are not a very popular or well known company’. It doesn't matter whether your Bespoke stairlift is 6 months old or 6 years old - the companies that buy back stairlifts simply aren't interested.

In other words, from the minute your (expensive) Bespoke stairlift has been installed, it is virtually worthless, whereas, for example, a Stannah or Thyssen, or Acorn, or Brooks stairlift does have a resale value.

To conclude - if I’d known how much stress dealing with Bespoke would generate for my family, over many months and at a time when we least needed it, I wouldn’t have touched this company with a barge pole.

For your own sake, I would strongly advise you to avoid Bespoke stairlifts at all costs.

DO NOT WORK HERE

I joined bespoke stairlifts delighted with the promised role and opportunities. I then left a week later after being sexually harassed and supported in no way. This was the worst week of my professional career and I wish it upon nobody.

No confirmation of monies paid

So what exactly does it take to get either an invoice or a receipt for monies paid to this company?
Five days ago I paid £195 for my mums stairlift to be serviced. After the payment had gone through I was asked if I’d like a receipt via email. I gave the female I was speaking to my email address, she read it back to me correctly and said I would receive an email confirmation within 10 - 15 minutes. 5 days later and 2 voice mails and 1 phone call later I’m still waiting

Appalling Service

For five days my 89 grandma with alzheimers who struggles greatly with her mobility and has no access to a downstairs toilet has been left without a stairlift. We had an appointment within 24 hours of ringing them but they cancelled. Then were supposed to come at 3pm today, changed to 7pm and then 8pm. We will see if he turns up. Not at all the engineers fault (he is travelling hundreds of miles to come and resolve issue) but a poorly run and overstretched company. Absolutely disgusting, just thanking our lucky stars she hasn’t had an accident. Don’t know how they sleep at night treating the elderly like this. They need to risk assess each case and prioritise more carefully.

Bespoke Chair Lifts

May 2023, Daniel from Bespoke recently installed our Chair Lift. From the very start we knew we had made the right choice. His professionalism shone through. Thank you so much, no fear from falling now, such a relief, no much energy wasting with my disabilities climbing up. You did an excellent job Daniel. Elizabeth QLD.
