HopOn HopOff July 2015

Generally our experience with HoHo buses around the major cities of the world has been satisfactory.
However on Sat July 18, we had the misfortune to hop on bus E5033 (Blue Route). At 6.00pm on the Bund, he skipped two stops and all the way prior to that, he was driving recklessly and making sudden stops.

Okay but room for improvement.

Times to wait for next bus often too lengthy. We had a river cruise as part of the tour but after much walking to find ticket office we were told the river was closed because of a prospective typhoon. This information should have been given to passengers on the buses or at the stops which would have saved a lot of time wasting. Outside of that the staff at each stop were very friendly and helpful.

Good tour

Covered almost all points of interest, buses on time, staff friendly. With 48 hours tour you get free of charge river cruise, entrance to Mao tower and Buda temple, all worth visit. Operating hours should be longer at least for summer time (last bus departs at 17).

waiting time too long

The waiting time for the next bus is too long.
I took the green route and waited for almost 1 hour until the next bus comes.
Drivers can't speak english which makes it worse, sometimes they just told you to get off or told you you can't get on by hand gesture, without explaining why.
None of the stops has time tables, I understand with traffic, it can be inaccurate, but at least it can give indication to the next expected arrival time.

Jade Temple Stop

We took a taxi to the Jade Temple intending to take the Big Bus back to People's Square area, but when we finished touring the Jade Temple we realized that there was no Bus Stop. We looked every where, we even asked the ticket man at the Jade Temple, but he didn't know what we were talking about. We ended up taking a taxi back.

Other than that everything went well...the sightseeing tour bus was a temptation because of the price, but the thing we liked about the Big Bus is that we received the free passes to the Jin Mao, Cruise and Jade Temple.

nice tour for short time worth the money you pay

Very friendly ground staff. Nice tour mix (bustour, great boat tour to view the skyline, 88th floor view, temple tour). The complaints i have is the bus frequence, compared to other bigbus-tours, could go more often and the driving style of some bus drivers. Otherwise really great offer!

Red and Green tour is great. Blue trour very weak

All are very good tours. Bus arrives quite frequently. Taped announcements were well translated (into German) and in good volume.
There were NO explanations at all on the blue tour which was dissapointing. We also checked other languages but only music is played.
That was dissappointing for us. Landing bridge for the river cruise could not be found.

I recommend red and green tour and using the metro or sightseeing tunnel from the Bund to visit the Pearl Tower, etc.

Enjoyable way to see Shanghai

The only problem was getting started. We booked online and went directly to the BigBus stop (easily located) but it took awhile to find someone to issue our tickets because the bus driver did not speak English. Finally we found a representative who put us on bus to another stop where the tickets could be issued. We loved the experience. The representatives worked very hard to assist in any way they could. It was relaxing and a great way to see the various areas.

Breathtaking ride through Shanghai

The views are breathtaking, the commentary in English is appropriate, legible and very useful what with those little nuggets of information... The ride is comfortable, the earphones are clean, the map in English has great clarity, the staff are courteous and understand and speak English, the drop & pick up locations can be easily located. The ride up the Jin Mao Tower was so fast and the view from the top truly speactacular. The ferry ride was laid back, slow to let you take the sights, and well organised. The Jade Buddha Temple with its rich and spectacular architecture, and the chanting is a great spiritual experience. All in all worth the money several times over.

Big Bus Tour Shanghai

Our hotel choice was excellent and we were able to make full use of all the routes offered in order to see all the best sights in Shanghai. Almost all buses arrived on schedule.
On line purchase of the tickets and special entries was easy and inexpensive.

Good but overpriced online

I was disappointed that there wasn't a representative on board the bus when I got on for the first time at the second stop so didn't get any headphones or a map of the journey.
Also I pre-bought my ticket and when I arrived at the main stop I found out that it would have been cheaper to but it directly from them and also there were more options of only getting a pass for 24hrs not just 48hrs.
However i was impressed of the routes they offered and the other attractions included in the price, although I didn't have time to do them all.

Average tour

The three routes are good for seeing all of Shanghai. But, every bus we were on had problems with the audio. Also, we waited for over 45 minutes at one stop, and we got so tired of waiting that we took a taxi instead. It was a nice day, but the canopy tops prevented a lot of good overhead sights of the city. It is a better alternative to trying to navigate the city by subway or taxi, but don't expect an amazing tour.
