Great Loops, just more needed

The loops pass by some great sights but more buses are needed, waiting time is too long or there should be a clearer schedule at each stop of when the next bus will arrive. Sometimes left waiting and wondering when the next bus will come. Great value for money!

Frequencies can be better, as well as bus drivers

I bought the 48h ticket including all the passes, the ticket has great value not that much for the bus, but for the extra tickets included. I had a very bad experience with one driver that completely ignored us and did not stopped at the bus stop sign, my family and I almost waited for 40 minutes and when the bus finally arrived he completely ignored us ad did not stopped at the sign.

Apart from that bear in mind that you may be wasting 2 hours a day waiting for the bus to come which is less than ideal.

In summary I will only recommend the 48 h ticket because of the extra tickets you get, but not because of the bus service.

Shanghai sights

The routes are selected well, but a lot of time is wasted between the buses. In the process, the waiting time at each location stretched from 30 minutes to an hour. The staff stationed at important locations is helpful and speak good English. The overall experience can be improved by increasing the frequency of the buses.

Needs an Overhaul

We've happily taken Big Bus tours in other cities (London & Budapest) so when planning our China trip, we booked a 48hr ticket Shanghai tour online (£51 for two); booked locally would've been £65 for two. The tour has three routes that cover all the main sites, the 48hr ticket includes a short river cruise and access to the Jade Temple and Oriental Pearl, but not the Jing'an Temple. Grumble points - the driver on the Green route drove like a maniac, many of the commentary boxes were not working (not a huge issue when the bus isn't full and you can move seat, but a pain when the bus is full), the commentary e.g. particularly on the Green route, is limited as is the spoken English of staff. With hindsight, we would've visited the main sites using Shanghai's extensive metro system.

Slow to Go

Bought the 48 hour premium pass and it wasn't enough time because the buses run soooo slow and in frequently. The best route runs every 30 minutes (at least in theory) but the buses stop at each drop off my point for too long. Not sure if they are trying to get more customers or if I just had bad timing that the driver decided to take a lunch break but you have to have a lot of patience to use this service. The City Tours buses went by at least twice as often. Also, timer to update the recorded talk on the blue route. The building is clear still in process.

good starting point to discover Shanghai

I use the 48 hours pass my stay in Shanghai and it was convenient to have a nice city overview by crossing the main touristic areas. All the major sites to be visited for a short stay in Shanghai are in the routes offered by the company. I do recommend it.

Very satisfied

This is really worth the money. Take a 48 hours ticket for 300 rmb, the first day you do al 3 the routes and the next day you can hop off everywere you want. Not forget to do the Jin Mao tower and in the evening the boat trip. Really a good investment.

Too much traffic

The red route was fine, but the green route is not worth it. It took 1.5 hours to take the route. We picked up the tour on the Blue route in Pudong. Unfortunately the bus stop was covered by construction so it was difficult to find. It would have been better if the bus stop had been identified on the construction fence. The attendants on the Red Route were very helpful. Overall it was a good value, just not as good as we've experienced in other cities around the world.

Schedule not reliable

The Big Bus Tour itself was fine, no complaints. However, the schedule is not reliable and the routes are one-way only, so the "hop-on hop-off" is not as convenient as it seems. I would recommend this tour only if you had no other plans during your two days. Also, if you purchase tickets there you must use cash.

It is a good deal to get the bus tickets, river cruise, temple entrance, and Jin Mao tower entrance.

Hurry up and wait

I'm living in Shanghai and a few friends of mine came to visit so I thought this would be a nice way to let them see the city, and a fun way for me to play tourist for a few days. I've done these types of buses in London, Spain, New York, San Francisco, etc. so I thought it would be great.

We did the 48-hour ticket and it's a good thing too or we wouldn't have been able to see anything. We hopped on the bus at 10 each morning, or tried to, but the buses weren't on any recognizable schedule. We had to abandon our pickup point by the Portman and make our way to People's Square where we boarded the bus and sat for 45 minutes before the driver even turned the bus on. I rode the full loop back to People's Square and out of curiosity asked when the bus was going to go again and was told they'd be waiting another 45 minutes before continuing.

In a few instances the bus didn't even stop at the pickup points. I know they were the pickup points because they were on the map and even had a little red bus-stops built on the sidewalk with the company name (not to be confused with city sightseeing buses which were abundant and appeared to be timely). The buses just sped past us on at least two occasions, and on one other occasion, while we were on the bus, the driver skipped our stop entirely until I ran down the stairs and told him we were getting off there.

My in-laws did this same tour a few months ago and said it was great. That's why I booked it for my friends while they were here. In the end I was so frustrated by it that I decided we had better just take the metro if we wanted to actually see anything. Very disappointing.

great deal

We booked the two day ticket on line and saved some money. Included the skyscrapers viewing area, a temple and best of all a river cruise. We did the river cruise after dark to enjoy the amazing lights. Buses ran pretty much every half hour, though we did have one time that took almost an hour.

Shanghai by Bus if you have so much time to spare.

It was nice to see Shanghai with this hop on hop off tour yet it took so much time for the buses to arrive at designated checkpoints. 30% of my time was spent waiting. Unlike in Hong Kong, staff were not that courteous and helpful.

Very nce ride

Big Bus Tour in Shanghai was a great experience and a great help. I went to Shanghai in February but anyway it was the best and fastest way to see the most important attractions in the city. I bought the 48 hour ticket on the website so I had 20% discount and paid only 38.40 USD. Included was the ticket to JIN MAo Tower,a boat trip and the entrence do Buddah Temple. Very good price and good wuality. I was very satisfied that I've choosed the Big Bus City Tour. You can save time & money!

A little disappointed with Big Bus Shanghai.

The buses were not 20 minutes apart as advertised. They were more like 1 to 1.25 hours. Everytime I arrived at a stop I was told they would be there in 10 minutes and usually it was 40 minutes - 1 hour before the bus arrived. The weather was a bit cold so that was a problem. I saw the competitor, City Bus Tours had buses everywhere. The boat tour was nice. The buses were clean and uncrowded, whereas, the City Bus Tours were packed.

Shanghai Sightseeing

Hello me my man and mom with her friends we went to visit Shanghai and used Big Bus tours to roam around the city I can say that we had a great time it was so accessible besides for the fact that at the beginning we didn't found the stop right away for the fact that nobody speaks in english. So we got lost. But the tour was amazing and even the additional Perks like free entrance to Jitai's tower and dinner cruise for an hour.

Buses quite frequent - easy to transfer between the 3 lines - excellent recorded commentary in Eng and Mandarin - the free river trip is a nice bonus - 2 days is perfect to visit all the major sites and attractions - ideal for the first time visitor to Shanghai - good value!
