Our daughter was operated on in September 2021 by Dr Wiese in Frankfurt for an inguinal hernia. We want to express all our gratitude to Dr Wiese and to Biohernia-UK for this successful operation without mesh!
Having looked for months for a UK-based clinic that could operate our daughter safely, we finally turned to Biohernia for surgery in Germany and we are so glad we did! Despite being in another country and during the pandemic, our whole experience went very smoothly from our first discussion with Nahom at Biohernia, our video call with Dr Koch to our travel and surgery in Frankfurt. Dr Wiese is a very experienced, warm and caring surgeon who answered all our questions on our 1st day (Wednesday). Our daughter was operated on the next day and could walk in the afternoon around the town. Dr Wiese visited her every day at the hotel to ensure the recovery was going well. By Sunday, she could take a plane back to the UK. After four weeks, all her pains had disappeared and she could resume her activities at the gym. We highly recommend Dr Wiese and Biohernia without any reservation!

I thought it would be useful for others to read a review from someone who had a surgery a while ago, as I think people might wonder how things would be right after the surgery but also longer term. I had my surgery in April 2021, and I am so happy with my decision! I have no pain whatsoever and no complications. Dr Koch is an amazing doctor, very thorough and caring. The staff in the hotel in Cottbus are used to Dr Koch's patients and are very helpful! I had the transportation arranged to pick me up from the hotel and drop me off after. The whole experience felt more like a holiday than a stressful time due to the operation. I am very satisfied with everything and I would definitely recommend Dr Koch to anyone who is considering hernia repair without the mesh. I would also like to thank Nahom who was ever so helpful with organising everything!

Having developed an inguinal hernia in June my research made me realise that, in the UK, there is no treatment other than the stapling of an internal plastic mesh. I contacted BioHernia where Nahom organised me an appointment and subsequent, following day, surgery using only my own body tissues in Kelkheim near Frankfurt. The whole experience went really well especially the operation itself performed by Dr Weise who is a brilliant surgeon and lovely, personable man. Nine days on I am healing really nicely with no side effects whatsoever feeling really relieved that I have had the operation without any plastic in my body. I cannot recommend Dr Wiese and his staff enough. Added to that Nahom is a wonderful facilitator providing every bit of information needed.

I reached out to Biohernia for an online consultation prior to an eventual trip to Germany to see Dr. Koch. I was not sure if this was possible or not. Nahom helped me first. I sent all my previous exams reports and could talk to Dr. Koch via Zoom a few days after. Dr. Koch patiently answered all my questions and I felt I was really listened to. I really appreciated the honesty of Dr. Koch who didn't recommend surgery for my particular case and gave me some good advice. The same day Nahom sent me a protocol of recommended exercises to do at home. Top-notch professionals.

Could not have gone better !

Just some contextual information , i was 20 when i had the operation , male , normal height and weight. Now i had quite a big hernia and was very concerned as in London there are really no alternatives to mesh.

After speaking with nahom i made the trip to Germany (Recommend going with someone). All the logistics and travel was easy and smooth , the hotel staff are really patient and polite aswell as the hospital nurses.

I was very nervous but after meeting Dr Koch all my worries were gone , this man is the equivalent to the Messi or Ronaldo of hernias. I had read many of his papers and the quantity of successful operations he has performed is astonishing.

I am now 5 weeks since the operation and im 95 % back , i have lifted light weights no heavier than 10 KG i have walked everyday since the operation and even played light basketball - NO PAIN.

To summarise Biohernia doctors are NO JOKE , they are really some of the best in the world in terms of experience and technique. My hernia was bad so if yours is normal then you will do even better than me.

I had a serious inguinal hernia both sides since late 2004. It finally got so bad that I needed to do something about it. - Nahom patiently and competently answered all my questions. 6 weeks ago, Dr. Wiese and his team repaired me with the shouldice technique. I felt very safe, and my groin area is now flat and tight.

I was operated by Dr. Andreas Koch. He was extremely reassuring and checked on me and the other patients daily at the hotel we were all staying.

All in all, a good experience.

Great service from Dr. Koch and his team. The process was so easy from start to finish thanks to Biohernia. I have applied for reimbursement of the costs from the Health Service Executive in Ireland and am awaiting their processing of my claim. The recommended hotel (Sorat) was great too. I hope I never have a hernia on the other side but if I do I know where I will go.

I am very happy that I could find the right information and help via BioHernia and Dr. Koch.

As a former health worker i have not enough trust on this health system in Norway. They still behind.

Overall, I had a VIP experience with a great result in July 2021, my hernia is gone and I have no pain.
I live in Ireland, I had an inguinal hernia for over 2 years but I was reluctant to get surgery because the mesh’s horror story I heard. At the end, I found out about BioHernia when I was looking for a non-mesh surgery and I’m so glad I found them even if I was a bit sceptical at the beginning.
The service from BioHernia was top, well organised even during COVID, in Ireland with HSE the surgery cost is covered. BioHernia put you in relation with the Doctor of your choice and can organise everything, I chose Dr. Koch in Germany as I read really good reviews about him and I was right, the result is amazing, Dr. Koch checked daily on me in the hotel following the surgery, the scar is tiny and the pain was low to moderate.
Now after 4 weeks post-op I have zero pain and I can again carry things around, this is a life changer. Hopefully I won’t have any hernia again on the other side but if I do, I’ll re-use their service straightway, no more waiting!

For us it was more like a holiday rather than a inguinal hernia surgery!
Now, writing this seven weeks after the surgery I don’t feel anything anymore. Jus a little swelling were the cut was made. I can even see the cut hardly. I’m jogging over 30 minutes without any trouble and riding bike, walking, everything. And that’s what really matters, how life is after surgery. And that is great again.
About the contact, communication, friendliness and expertise from Biohernia, Dr. Koch and his staff and even the people from the Sorat Hotel in Cottbus a big applause. From the first contact until the last, simply superb.
And staying in the Hotel where Dr. Koch came by once or twice a day after the surgery made me a free man for the rest of the day, so my wife and I could stroll trough Cottbus and made some tours in the area. That is much more pleasant than laying in a swampy hospital all day waiting.

From contacting BioHernia (Nahom) until the surgery I had a very pleasant experience. Nahom did a great job to explain the procedure and to schedule an appointment with Dr. Wiese. The surgery went well. I felt in good hands by the friendly and competent team. My recovery was faster than expected. The day after surgery I went already for a long walk. I walked every day after that. Now 5 weeks later I feel great. I always will be thankful to Nahom and Dr. Wiese and his team. It was an unforgettable experience.

Almost too good to be true - the entire process, from planning and organising, to consults, the surgery, walking out of the clinic the day of, recovering the next few days and then a few weeks on the lighter side (no lifting, really),... perfect! I had hernia mesh removal with 15 titanium tacks in july 2020. The experience from booking to removal was first class.

I am a woman who had a one-sided inguinal hernia and was operated on very succesfully by Dr. Koch 4 months ago. I have no pain anymore now and have not yet come across a limitation in movements or lifting. What a relief!
I am very happy with and grateful for this ideal result.

The communication with Nahom was always friendly and clear. The first visit to Amsterdam was quick, efficient and friendly. It was easy to park and close to the highway and there Dr. Koch told me that I would be a candidate for his treatment. And later on my insurance told me that it would be reimbursed. So all lights were green.
Then a date was chosen to go to Cottbus, Germany. My partner went with me, which was very pleasant. We went by car, which was a long drive and which meant that he had to drive all the way back; therefor we spend the night in a hotel on the return.
The Sorat hotel in Cottbus was good (and certainly more comfortable than a hospital bed) and totally used to guests from Biohernia (with icepacks for the wound, a room next to the elevator, a lunchpack for in the hospital, help when needed). It is situated in a pleasant part of Cottbus, so when I was walking cautiously my little rounds after the operation, I liked my surroundings and restaurants were close.
On Monday we had the first meeting in Dr. Koch's clinic, which is situated in a big hospital-like building with a parking in front; take the door on the left side. (We had to search a bit). I had another check with Dr. Koch, a talk with the anesthesiologist, a Covid-test and was given information and papers to sign. The next day we were free and spent a lovely afternoon in the Spreewalt in a boat, eating 'gurken'. This enhanced my relaxation before the operation and my feeling of having a romantic time together. The next day the other Dutch patient and I were waiting for the taxi at 6 in the morning. When we were In the hospital the staff gave me the feeling that everything that happened was all very routine for them, that they had been doing this for a long time and were good at what they did. I liked that, because it was not at all routine for me and being the subject of an operation is not in my top 10 of nice things to do. But it had to be done and this is an excellent place to have it done. Afterwards Dr. Koch came to my hotel room every day I was there, including the first day. He was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. The next day I got a lymph-draining massage in the hotel from a massage-therapist, to help evacuate post-operative fluids (around 35 euros). Another sign that Biohernia has thought of everything that is helpfull and has integrated that in a total package and they guide you on the way.
Afterwards when I was home and I had less and less pain, it was time to stop with the painkillers, I went too fast with the tapering and learned that it was better for me to gradually stop (600mg->400mg->300mg->200mg), because they are also anti-inflammatory and my wound became red and hot when I went down too fast. Already two weeks after the operation I had no pain anymore. Now four months later I am very very pleased.

I had a hernia in 2017 and was operated on in the Netherlands. Of course with a mat. This mat broke, after which I had a problem in 2020. I came in contact with Dr Wiese through Biohernia. I am very satisfied. He is skilled and professional. My problem is gone and everything around it (hotel, contact etc) was great. Een tip nog: hoe meer je na afloop loopt, hoe sneller de operatiepijn weg is. Dank Biohernia!
