Le Fleur

We rode on the Fleur starting April 16th, 2026 with Captain Steffie, Ivo, Sara, Paulo, and our guides, Michiel and Ronald. Everything was wonderful. The whole team went out of their way to provide a great experience and to share all of their knowledge. The food was good, the boat was clean and comfortable, and the crew were enthusiastic about doing their jobs well. The bikes worked great. I highly recommend renting the e-bikes (for the wind!). Lots of cool little stops at windmills, a cheese farm, tulip fields, and noteworthy sites in the towns. Loved the history talks in the evening, plus the optional walks into town. So many waterfowl, cows, horses, Scottish Highland Cows, sheep, alpacas, and all the babies! Canals and more canals!! Simply stunning countryside and never too many tulips! Our guides were fantastic. We learned a lot and laughed a lot. Our fellow travelers were also wonderful companions. I highly recommend this trip. And remember, “Always a bike!”

Exceeded expectations

The boat was small by cruise standards, but immaculately clean and well maintained, tastefully decorated, with added small touches of fresh flowers both inside and out. Rooms were tight, but that is what we expected, and were nicely appointed. The crew, from captain Stephie to housekeeper Sarah, were friendly, professional, and extremely competent.

Bike riding through the tulips in springtime Netherlands was undoubtedly the highlight of the trip for me. Views were stunning, excursions well-planned and immersive, landscapes varied, and small towns charming.

The guides, Michael and Ronald, were exceptional at explaining clearly, keeping us safe, adjusting our bikes to keep us comfortable; they were patient, engaging, playful, knowledgeable, friendly. Processes were clear, well thought out, perfectly organized. Paulo, our chef, provided exceptional meals, making masterful adjustments for this vegetarian.

Our ebikes were comfortable, well- maintained, with batteries that lasted longer than anticipated.

Would we do this again? By the second day of the tour, we were already planning the next trip. With only 20 passengers, the rapport with other like-minded, active types soon developed into a warm camaraderie that only added to the experience.

Let's do this again!

Our Amazing Amsterdam Boat & Bike adventure

Our Boat & Bike adventure was absolutely unforgettable—an experience we’re already hoping to repeat in another country! The boat itself was perfect: comfortable, welcoming, and the ideal home base after each day of exploring. The crew and tour leaders were exceptional, sharing fascinating historical insights at every turn—and delighting us with the sweetest treats along the way.
Both the guides were a true delight and shared their love & historical knowledge of their country with so much passion, it inspired me, we should all love our country the way they do!
We loved every windmill stop, each one offering its own charm and story. Cycling through the stunning Dutch landscapes and discovering so much of Amsterdam and its surrounding countryside by bike made the journey feel immersive and authentic. Every mile brought something new to admire.
It was the perfect blend of activity, culture, relaxation, and indulgence—an adventure we would happily relive again and again.

Friendly and Accommodating

The captain and staff of the Fleur were very friendly and Chef Paolo was terrific! Very accommodating to this vegetarian traveller. Our bike guides, Michiel and Ronald, were lots of fun once they got over the initial shock of guiding a group of 20 women. Both were extremely knowledgeable about the history of the sights along the way and adapted routes for those cyclists who were uncomfortable with too much city riding.

Deceptively Hidden Payment Fees

BBT offered a refund of the credit card processing fee. My contention was that it did not clearly outline the fee as a CC processing fee. Had I know that upfront I would have utilized the ACH payment option. I offered to switch payment methods but BBT processed a credit to my card. Thanks for stepping up BBT.

Reply from Boat Bike Tours

Thank you for taking the time to share this. We are truly sorry that this charge came across as unclear and left you feeling misled. We understand that this is frustrating, especially when making the final payment for your upcoming trip.

We are always trying to communicate any costs as clearly as possible during the booking process, and we are sorry that this did not come across clearly enough in your case.

For guests from the US, there are two payment options: credit card or ACH (electronic funds transfer) from a domestic US bank account. The 3% fee applies to credit card payments. Boat Bike Tours does not profit from this fee, as it is charged by our payment provider. Any additional costs may also depend on the card issuer, for example in cases where currency conversion or other bank charges apply. Further information can be found in Article 7 and 10 of our General Terms and Conditions.

We take your feedback seriously and would very much like to look into this with you personally. We will contact you by email to go through this together in more detail and to find a suitable solution. We hope this will give us the opportunity to address your concerns properly.

Kind regards, Boat Bike Tours

Perfect bike & bout trip

I would like to express my sincere appreciation for the excellent trip that your team organized. Everything was arranged in a very professional and thoughtful way.

The itinerary was well organized, and the hotels and boat accommodations were very comfortable. The restaurants we visited were also excellent and gave us a great taste of the local cuisine.

The bicycles were in very good condition, which made the biking trips enjoyable and safe. The cycling routes were beautiful and well planned. I especially appreciated the interesting historical information shared along the way, which added a lot to the overall experience.

Most of all, I would like to compliment your staff. They were highly professional, well educated, friendly, and always helpful. Their knowledge and enthusiasm made the trip even more memorable.

Thank you for providing such a wonderful experience. I would gladly recommend your trips to others and hope to travel with you again in the future.

Very nice overall.

Very nice overall.
Boat, premisses and service very good.
Spots chosen for visits, both ancient and current Egypt, very good.
Guides and organization excellent.
My remarks and suggestions:
1 include Abu Simbel rather than de Red Sea part; this could be offered as elective.
2 stress that this is a different tour, less bike and more historical than probably all the others, to align expectations.
3 picnic lunch bags quite poor. The lunch bags offered to be made by us on the Amsterdam-Bruges were very good, as an example.
Thank you and congrats to Laurens & team

A great introduction to Egypt

Egypt presented many challenges for a boat bike experience, and BBT's crew worked overtime to make it the best experience possible for their guests. This is not a bike friendly environment, and if your goal is miles and speed this is not the tour for you. But the experience of riding in this amazing country outweighs the difficulties we encountered.
Since the traffic is often chaotic, the tourist counsel provided police and ambulance escort and required we stay in a single group. While it was reassuring in some ways, it complicated the riding. Having to stay in a tight group (without being a peleton) was made more difficult due to the varied experience levels of the riders, and the unpredictable nature of e- bike operation by those unfamiliar with the bikes. While I am a fairly confident rider, and was able to enjoy our surroundings, my wife is not and spent her time in the bike totally focused on the wheel in front of her. Had we been free to break from the group and go at our own pace it would have helped her, but this is not possible if the security arrangement is maintained. So it's a bit of a catch 22. Perhaps if you had two groups and divided riders by abilities?
The Nile cruise was a full itinerary on its own, and it felt a bit like the biking was tacked on to it. Amazing experience all around, but from my point of view it was more history than I had expected, and I would rather have less and balance it with more riding and interacting with the countryside. Again, the circumstances in Egypt limit this. I certainly missed the cafe stops in small towns that are the norm on other Bbt trips.
Kudos to BBT for pulling this off. I'm still processing the experience. For those interested in Egypt, this is a fantastic way to be introduced to the culture history and geography of an amazing country. But for those who really want to focus on the bike, you should probably go elsewhere.

Get out of the bus and onto a bike

This was the second time that bike boat tours ran this tour and they are working very hard to make this unique experience terrific. The team is dedicated to making this as safe and interesting as possible and provide first rate service.

Their dedicated Egyptologists are an essential part of the tour which is absolutely packed with visit to the major sites and those off the beaten track. If you choose to participate in all activities you will be very busy and may need a vacation after this adventure.

The boat experience on the NEBU is first class with excellent food and a crew that works exceptionally hard and is very attentive.

Cycling component is unlike anything you can imagine. There is NO cycling presence, culture or infrastructure in Egypt. Therefore you are accompanied by police escort, ambulance, a mechanic, and riders from the Boat bike team. This results in effectively a parade like procession with corresponding interest from locals and is an amazing experience. With the use of e-bikes the parade speed is anywhere from 12-20km typically and there are rest stops every hour. Do not expect a grand fondo/tour de France type or intense fitness ride. Do expect that you will always be riding single file over variable road surfaces requiring some bike handling skills and the need to pay attention.

This is a unique way to experience Egypt and offers much more than a typical boat and tour bus shuttle service. I expect that future tours of Egypt will continue to evolve and improve as the Boat Bike team seem to be looking for constructive feedback throughout our tour.

Cycling Egypt and the Nile inaugural tour

It took an incredible amount of coordination for BBT to pull this trip together. This is a fascinating trip for the experienced, confident cyclist who is able to navigate occasional congested traffic (which is sometimes going the wrong way) and maneuver through cars, trucks, tuk tuks, donkey carts, pedestrians, motorcyclists, and local cyclists. Local police would at times stop all traffic to allow our group to pass smoothly through a busy area.

This is not cycle touring where you can obliviously cycle along just enjoying the surrounding scenery. Some of the paths are off-road style riding. Even paved roads are often lumpy, potholed, with sandy spots and irregular surfaces, so you need to keep your eye on the upcoming road at all times. We rode along the shoulders of regular, heavily-trafficked tourist and commuting roads and also along backroads through some rural farmland and small villages. Since our group was definitely a novelty, groups of children were running out into the road "helloing" and trying to high five us. Locals were taking photos of the tourists rather than the other way around.

Our cycling guides were fantastic in every way, but I felt that 40 people (35 guests and 5 guides) riding together was way too large a group for safety. Prior to booking I had been told that I would be riding with a group of about 20, and even the day of our arrival we were told that we would be separated into two groups for riding. However, when the actual cycle touring began we were told that Egyptian governmental regulations require police escorts for cycling, so we needed to ride as one large group. If this concerns you, ask before you book.

Starting in ElGouna was a wise choice with a lovely hotel there, and it gave us the opportunity to visit the temple at Dendera while enroute to the Nile. This temple is rather infrequently visited, not nearly as crowded as many others, and was one of my favorites of the entire trip.

Our ship Nebu was over the top deluxe accommodation and way fancier than I would normally book. The meals we had on the ship were consistently the best of the entire trip. As far as meals, throughout the trip there was simply way too much food on offer, and it was wasteful.

The Renaissance Cairo Mirage City Hotel at the end of the trip was a fine lodging with mostly mediocre food. But, for a tourist, the location was terrible; I assume that it was chosen for its proximity to the airport. This hotel is located and isolated in a newer area, and there is absolutely nothing around--no little shops, no restaurants, no grocer or convenience store, nothing to walk to or easily reach. For food you are limited to the hotel's restaurants.  Excursions from the hotel with the group and on my own after the tour ended were a .75 to 1.25 hour drive each way. I suggest trying to find a more centrally located hotel for future tours.

Our Egyptologists--Maged, Mona and Amina--were unbelievably knowledgeable and also genuinely kind, caring, and helpful people. The tour did a great job of mixing the traditional must-see tourist sites with parts of Egypt that the typical tourist is not exposed to. So, we got it alI! By the end of the trip I felt that all those disparate pieces of info our egyptologists gave us coalesced into an understanding of Egypt both in the past and today.

I have now seen everything I wanted to see in Egypt. If it weren't for the size of the cycling group, this would have been a 5* review.

Extra notes: February is when the sugar cane fields around Luxor are burnt. This causes terrible air quality, and some people were definitely struggling with this. This is not a country for skimpy cycling attire, and even though temps during our trip were 15 degrees warmer than average, while cycling I felt appropriately dressed for this culturally conservative country in more modest attire--a long sleeved shirt with either cycling capris or a skirt with cycling shorts underneath. The great group of cyclists on our tour were from 40ish to early 80s and came from all over the world.
