We’re genuinely sorry to hear that your experience didn’t meet expectations. However, we strongly refute the suggestion that Book A Builder UK is a “scam” — a claim that’s both inaccurate and unfair to our team, partners, and the 125,000+ verified members who actively use our platform.

BookABuilderUK.com has been proudly trading since 2014 and has grown into one of the UK’s most trusted platforms for connecting homeowners with professional tradespeople. We’ve helped generate over £5bn in job value through our network and continue to receive the backing of strategic investors who believe in our long-term mission.

We work with organisations such as Wolseley, Wren kitchens, Kingsbridge Insurance, Zempler Bank and Trading Standards, We are committed to transparent pricing, contract clarity (terms wrote by Trading Standards under the plain English campaign) and ongoing support. Every customer is offered a dedicated account manager to help them succeed — not to push unwanted upgrades, but to recommend the best value based on job volumes, competition in their area, and previous results.

We’re sorry if you’ve had difficulty reaching your account manager. While it’s true they may occasionally be in meetings or assisting other members, our full support team is available to help during working hours at 📧 info@bookabuilderuk.com
or 📞 020 3817 8467, and we will always return calls as soon as possible.

We would welcome the opportunity to look into your account directly, assess why you haven’t received leads, and ensure you're getting the value you deserve from the service.

Please contact us so we can resolve this properly. We're confident we can offer a more positive experience moving forward.

This site is terrible

This site is terrible. I joined a year ago and never got anywhere in generating enquiries. Everytime a lead came up it was immediately taken. I complained on email and was ignored. They then automatically renewed which I had to argue about. They reduced to £200 if signed for another year. Promised the earth then as soon as payment received ignored me once again. Avoid!!

Thank you for sharing your feedback — I’m sorry to hear that your experience didn’t meet expectations.

At Book A Builder UK, we are committed to supporting tradespeople with real job opportunities and transparent service. When members join, they receive full access to our member dashboard, where all live leads are shown in real time, and their account settings — including areas covered and trade types — can be managed directly for the best results.

Regarding lead availability, leads are posted in real-time and can be competitive depending on trade and region. We encourage all members to work with their support contact to adjust criteria if lead flow is limited, as we want every member to get real value from their membership.

Your concern about communication and auto-renewal is something we take seriously. All members agree to our terms and renewal policy upon joining, and reminder notices are sent in advance of any renewal. That said, we never want any member to feel pressured, and we do offer flexibility where possible — including renewal discounts — to help support long-term success on the platform.

We’d welcome the chance to investigate this further and provide proper assistance. Please contact our team directly at 📧 info@bookabuilderuk.com

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We're sorry to hear that your experience did not match your expectations, but we must respectfully and firmly reject the suggestion that Book A Builder UK is a scam.

We are a UK-registered company operating a real and active platform that connects homeowners with verified local tradespeople. Our service is built to give tradespeople visibility and access to leads relevant to their trade, location, and preferences. All members receive full access to a personalised online dashboard where they can view, claim, and manage leads, as well as track engagement performance.

Regarding the lead volume, the platform operates in real time, and availability can vary by area and trade type. If a member isn’t receiving suitable leads, our support team is always available to help adjust settings and provide performance reviews. We never guarantee job bookings — no platform can — but we do provide access to real opportunities as part of the membership.

You mentioned an “unlimited” service — this refers to unlimited visibility and access to leads within your selected criteria, not a guarantee of results, and this is made clear during sign-up and in our terms.

If you feel your account has not delivered the value expected, we’d appreciate the chance to look into this in more detail. Please contact our support team at info@bookabuilderuk.com
or 020 3817 8467, and we’ll be happy to investigate your account and work toward a resolution.

Thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear you felt let down by your experience on the platform, and I appreciate the opportunity to respond.

Book A Builder UK is a real, UK-registered business designed to help tradespeople connect with genuine local homeowners seeking help with home improvement and building projects. We are absolutely not a scam — we operate a fully transparent subscription-based platform where members receive access to a live dashboard of leads based on their selected trade, location, and distance preferences.

It’s important to note that while you may have seen a limited number of job requests during your time with us in the South West London area, the volume and frequency of leads varies based on market demand, local competition, and seasonal fluctuations. We make no guarantees of job bookings — no lead platform can — but we do provide full visibility of all available work relevant to your trade and area, and our support team is always on hand to help optimise your coverage settings to increase opportunities.

We’d like to take a closer look at your account to understand what happened and offer any corrective steps where possible. Please contact us directly at info@bookabuilderuk.com
or 020 3817 8467 and we’ll make it a priority to review your case.

Thank you again for your feedback — it helps us improve and better support all tradespeople using our platform.

Horrible service, location bugs and confusing experience. Potential PII violations.

Horrible and potentially dangerous service. Firstly, for some reason, my postcode despite coming up with the correct address shows the job located in a place called "Junction" which doesn't exist. The first job I posted some months ago, BAB customer services called me to validate the job, I queried the location then and they couldn't explain why that happens. Manually entering the town worked, but didn't attract any local interest. Still an issue with my recent job.

Secondly, I only seem to attract tradesmen from far away. I don't know why this happens. Nobody local responds to the small jobs I've posted, although in fairness overwhelming interest from distant and questionable "property management" companies seems common for other sites too (eg mybuilder).

Thirdly and most seriously, as a user, I don't understand the intended experience. A tradesman can "accept" my job, without having introduced themselves or offering a quote. Then they see my phone number, and perhaps feel obliged that I take them up? This is ridiculous and now an angry roofer (who seems to be 80 miles away from the small job advertised) has my number, accusing me of being a "dodgy lead" after explaining the job had been done (I found a tradesman using another service and had forgotten I even tried here first, such was the lack of interest). I was admittedly equally rude back and hung up/blocked, but on reflection, perhaps he's fed paying for a service that isn't generating him any business. The business model appears to be a fixed annual fee for tradesmen. I couldn't tell you if the site uses fake leads, but it sounds like he wasn't getting value from his annual fee, and from my side of the fence, I haven't had any luck over two jobs finding local tradesmen either.

Now I'm done with this site forever, I want to delete my account, as is my right under current data protection laws, and I see no way of doing that. At this point that's no surprise.

It also seems closely related to Wren kitchens and bedrooms with links to book appointments in the navigation menu, which from a user perspective is bizarre.

Suggest anyone avoid this service, it's a mess.

Thank you for taking the time to provide such a detailed review. We're sorry to hear that your experience with Book A Builder UK has been frustrating — and while we recognise your dissatisfaction, we’d like to address a few of the concerns you’ve raised to provide clarity and accountability.

1. Location Error on Job Post

We apologise for the confusion regarding your postcode and the incorrect town label. Our system relies on a third-party address database that occasionally misrepresents or autocorrects lesser-known locations. While manually entering the town is a good workaround (as you noted), our development team has been made aware of this issue and is actively working to improve accuracy in the postcode-to-location mapping process.

2. Lack of Local Responses

Lead response rates can vary depending on job type, location, and timing. While we strive to match homeowners with local, verified tradespeople, smaller or lower-value jobs may attract fewer local trades due to cost, travel time, or availability. In densely populated regions such as South West London, high competition among trades also plays a role. That said, we take these situations seriously and constantly monitor regional performance to improve matching.

3. Job Acceptances and Contact Flow

Our platform allows tradespeople to express interest by “accepting” a lead, which then makes your contact details available to them. This process is clearly explained during the job posting flow, and the tradesperson is expected to initiate contact professionally. However, if you receive inappropriate or aggressive messages from any tradesperson — including those unrelated to your area — we urge you to report them to our team immediately so we can investigate and take action where necessary.

We do not condone unprofessional conduct, and any user found to be in breach of our platform standards can be removed.

4. Business Model Transparency

Book A Builder UK operates on a transparent membership model for tradespeople — not a pay-per-lead setup. All trades are made aware of this before signing up, and our team works with them to ensure they understand how to use the platform effectively. While we cannot speak to the personal frustrations of the roofer mentioned, we do not use fake leads, and we take allegations of that nature seriously.

5. Data Removal and Account Deletion

You absolutely have the right to request the deletion of your personal data under UK GDPR. While we don’t currently offer a self-service deletion tool via the dashboard, you can request permanent removal by contacting our team directly at:

info@bookabuilderuk.com

020 3817 8467

Please reference “Account Deletion Request – GDPR” in your email, and we will ensure your request is processed swiftly and in full compliance with data protection law.

6. Wren Kitchens Mention

While we occasionally feature promotional links or offers in our navigation menus, these are not indicative of any ownership or operational relationship with those companies. Any such inclusion is optional for users and intended to offer added value.

Final Thoughts

We're genuinely sorry this experience left you with such a negative impression of our platform. The issues you've raised are important, and we’ll continue improving based on feedback like yours. If you'd consider giving us a second chance, we'd be happy to support your next project with closer assistance and priority support.

Wishing you all the best,

Head of Customer Services

BEWARE BEFORE HIRING, CON MAN, PAID MORE THAN QUOTED JOB LEFT INCOMPLETE, BLACKMAILED, UNPROFESSIONAL

I hired David to fit herringbone flooring for an agreed quote of £500, which I paid in good faith after he assured me the work would be completed to a professional standard and include a one-year warranty. In total, I ended up paying £600 — £100 more than the agreed price — yet was left with an unfinished floor, no warranty, and a great deal of stress and additional cost.

During the job, David chose to approach a puppy on the street and was nipped. Although he laughed about the incident, used his arm freely afterwards, cleaned the entire drive, and joked about what happened, he later requested more money from both the dog’s owner and me. He even said himself that “the pup was 100% being playful and was just clumsy” and that it was his own fault.

It took three days after the incident for him to decide he wanted extra money from me — £100 for “shaving doors” — something that should have been mentioned during the initial job assessment. He also requested an additional £150 on behalf of the dog’s owner, which I refused. I felt under pressure but did not go along with this, as it was completely irrelevant to the flooring work and he had no right to ask me for extra money from someone else.

The pace of work was extremely slow for two men. Even before the dog bite, Day 1 took the entire day just to lay 15 sqm of plywood, with no levelling required. Day 2, they left at 2:30 p.m., which I can only assume was to go to another job. Day 3, David left partway through the day, with his son saying he had gone to “see to another job.” It became increasingly clear he was juggling multiple jobs and not giving mine proper attention. Despite promising to finish by the end of day 3, the floor was still incomplete — edges missing, no beading or trims fitted, and a door left in the middle of the room.

I later discovered pieces of my expensive wooden flooring thrown in the bin, which was both wasteful and upsetting. David first responded saying he had never seen this happen in all his 30 years of career, and later told me to read about how even good pieces of wood sometimes cannot be used. I responded that even if he now claims the pieces could not be used, they should not have been thrown away, as I could have had a box of wood refunded if not needed. His responses simply sounded like excuses for his mistake and showed he did not know what he was talking about.

The property was also left in poor condition. A saw had been used in the kitchen without warning, leaving the entire area coated in dust. Glue splashes were left on the new floor, and a glue lid was placed on my sofa. When I politely asked him not to do that, he later took a video suggesting it had never happened — which I found misleading.

After leaving the job incomplete, David stopped answering my calls, ignored questions about the warranty he had promised, and later messaged to say he would not be returning, claiming anxiety around dogs — despite working in an empty property with no animals present. I have video and audio evidence clearly showing him laughing after the incident, using the same arm freely, and saying “the pup was 100% being playful and was just clumsy” and that it was his own fault.

From my perspective, it felt as though David had taken on too many jobs and decided not to return after being paid in full, leaving me with unfinished work, extra costs, and no warranty. It was impossible to find another skilled tradesman to finish the edges of the flooring and everything else agreed for the £60 refunded to me, after David had taken £600 in total.

I am aware that online reviews can appear misleadingly perfect, as those that do not meet platform wording policies may be removed — which can make some tradespeople appear to have 100% flawless records. For that reason, I believe it’s important to share an honest and factual account so that future customers can make informed choices. Any claims made in David’s response to this review are invalid, as I hold clear video and audio evidence to support every statement I have made.

When sweet talks fail

Making a payment for a service should be as it says on the tin, but when inconsistencies, abandonment and attempts to secure even further money from you is really condescending and very belittling.
After paying £480, I'm left with no job lead, and they told me that the job leads were complementary.
Let me warn those who already signed up, go and discontinue your AUTO RENEWAL, because by the end of 12 months, it automatically renews.
Let season builders and traders stay clear of this company. its a bitter pill. Do your due diligence!
