No wonder they are closing--Good riddence

I placed my order & did not hear for ten days. When i questioned the time & said i may cancel, Jay went ahead & cancelled the order just to show how clever they were. Poor delivery, crappy attitude, no wonder everyone is avoiding these clowns.
Just buy off ebay, it is much easier.

Luisa replied and said how sorry they are and asked for my order number but did not give me anyway to contact them. I will shop elsewhere from now on.

nothing is in stock you have to wait…

nothing is in stock you have to wait weeks to get items. mine still not even arrived at warehouse . Spoke to Patricia on live chat . was bit of smart ass basically saying its not there fault and I should read the expected time. She should be fired. Well no its not normal to wait for a a shipping for over a month for somewhere within Australia. Will never be using Booktopia again it gone down hill

We do get a lot of books from local or international suppliers and shipping timeframes can vary from 5-10 business days, 10-15 business days, 15-25 business days or 30 business days. Instock items ships in 1-2 business days.

They take your money and never send the product. Fraudulent

Terrible, terrible service. One book never arrived and money was never returned and it’s happened again. Customer support is woeful. Stay away from this company, it’s robbery.

I preordered a book 8 months before…

I preordered a book 8 months before release, upon release im told that they didnt order enough books DESPITE preordering it; extremely disappointing experience.
They have put it on back order but I am under good authority that they will not be reprinting the book.

BUYER BEWARE

If I could give this company a minus 5 stars I would. This is the 2nd time dealing with this company.
Both times I have placed an order I have made sure that it states ‘in stock’ both times it hasn’t been and the ist time it ended up not being available.
I have now ordered a book for Christmas for my grandson… it’s supposed to be in stock now I’ve been informed they’re ’expecting’ a shipment on December 13th!!!!! I have cancelled my order and will NEVER deal with this pathetic company again .
UPDATE: So I have now sent 3 emails to booktopia… requesting cancellation and refund of my money…HAVE HAD NO RESPONSE but find it interesting that TGEY CAN FIND THE TIME TO ANSWER A NEGATIVE REVIEW

Dishonesty in availability of books

I ordered four books from Booktopia as they each indicated that they were in stock. That was 21 days ago. I contacted them asking how long i was to wait for delivery and received a reply saying that they had only sourced two of the books and were waiting on suppliers for the other two… why indicate you have them in stock if you don’t? I would have used a different company had they been honest. I sent a reply email indicating my disappointment in the company and that I would never use them again. While they replied with an apology i feel that they are not a company to be trusted. If i could give them zero stars would.
Furthermore “customer service” person, Martha, in her response to me used the following condescending terms: “as explained before” and “clearly stated” sounds like the words of a person who is not in the practice of SERVING customers, just insulting them. Do not use this company.

Don't order your book with this company !!!

Ordered a book on 28th July 2025, at time of this review it is the 26th August 2025 and I still don't have the book i ordered. I sent 3 Emas to follow up and was simply told they can take up to 15 to 21 business days to get the book. This equates to over a month in real terms. Booktopia are selling books they don't even have in stock, promotes itself as an Australian company and then makes customers wait over a month to get a book. They should be very up front with their customers and clearly states to them that it will take over a month to get their book on their website. They should tell customers that they don't actually stock the books they advertise and they order it in once customers pay for the book. This should be in bold on the front of their pages. Its misleading and appalling behaviour. If I could give them 0 stars i would. Don't order with Booktopia!!!

We sell "In Stock" books, which are books kept in our Sydney Distribution Centre. On our website, these items will state "In Stock" and "Aims to ship in 1-2 business days."

We also sell non-stock items, which are sourced from our suppliers. Non-stocked items have different shipping timeframes depending on whether the supplier is local or international. All shipping timeframes are displayed on our website for every book.

I can confirm that if you are returning an item due to a change of mind, you will have to pay for return postage. If the parcel is unopened then you can just put Return To Sender on the parcel and return it without having to pay for postage.

Poor communication

Any time there is a problem with your order, you are not notified. You need to reach out to them before they will action anything. Have had this happen three times and I will not use them again. Tried to support an Australian business but they have made it not worth it.
