Eva is a fabulous photographer who is more than happy to share all the tips and tricks of the trade. We had a very enjoyable one-on-one evening, practicing different techniques in night-photography and discussing photography as an art form. Highly recommended 5 anyone who has some basic knowledge in photography and is willing to expand their toolkit.

I did the Beginners Photography course at Evolution Arts with Eva. I learnt a lot from the course and Eva was a very enthusuastic and knowledgeable teacher. I would recommend the course for anyone looking to learn more about photography.

I felt rather pressurised into taking on a session with Eva following our introduction via a mutual friend. I was given limited feedback on my work (white balance, focus) and told that I was bit less experienced than her usual clients. There was some useful work around preparation, but it would be helpful to have a bit of a process prior to the session where your details and experience can be explained so you know what you're signing up to. I think if you've a defined project on the go, Eva's experience will give you useful insights.

Thank you Eva for helping me explore my creativity and taking my photography from snapshots to artistry. You encouraged me to understand that being artistic isn't about having every concept worked out beforehand but instead it's about being happy to explore, being uncertain and having fun!

Eva is a fantastic and enthusiastic teacher. She's always supportive and is excellent at taking small ideas and turning them into much larger projects.

I loved Eva's workshop for Smartphones - she is a patient, intuitive and creative teacher. I learnt great techniques and how to get the best out of my phone camera - definitely looking to do further workshops with Eva.

Eva has an excellent method for running these courses. Her encouraging, guiding approach provides support and knowledge when required but is balanced to nurture creative expression.

Over the past six years, I’ve been on several of Eva’s photography courses, lasting several weeks, such as abstract/surreal, portrait, and creative. I’ve also attended photo walks for street and night photography. Eva’s focus is to get you to think creatively and push you out of your comfort zone to produce new things and work in different ways, sometimes with constraints that force you to think on your feet and may yield surprising results. The homework has been terrific fun, sometimes involving my partner and friends. I’ve learned much about being more creative, and my photos have benefited.

I had a free online coaching session with Eva yesterday in which she helped me look at my current issues in my photography journey and what I wanted to achieve. This was done in a very structured and organized way and by the end of the session I felt clearer about my goals. I also took an evening course in Abstract Photography with Eva at Evolution in Hove, East Sussex, a few years ago. It was a really interesting and inspiring course with a good mix of information, discussion and reviewing of the homework tasks we were set each week and by the end of the course I felt I had learned a lot about both the history of abstract photography and different abstract photography techniques.

I recently participated in a street art photo walk around Brighton with Eva and, having listened carefully to what I wanted to get out of the day, Eva provided me with careful guidance, suggestions and feedback that now helps me see far more opportunity to express my creativity in making artistic images of street art that go beyond the simple reportage. Due to the benefits I felt from this initial workshop, I booked a 1-to-1 online coaching session with Eva to help me look at my general sense of being stuck in my creative outlook. Through a series of structured questions, Eva listened and responded to my answers to help me start to clarify in my own mind what I’m trying to achieve. On the basis of these two workshops I am inspired to work and develop my creative ‘voice’ and I highly recommend Eva to help you find yours.


I first met Eva Kalpadaki in 2016 when she ran a course ‘You and your DSLR’ which covered all aspects of the workings of my new camera. I loved the course and the exercises Eva set for us, some of which were quite a challenge and encouraged me to be more creative.

I found, during the Covid years, that my opportunities to continue developing my camera skills rather faded away and I felt that I wasn’t satisfied with my photography. I got in touch with Eva and asked if she would take me on as a student again as I wanted to concentrate more on portraiture. And we agreed on an 8 week course, mostly over Zoom, which covered aspects of portraiture that I had never before considered. It really stimulated my creative imagination, made me struggle sometimes to produce the end results that I wanted to achieve. Sometimes I had to work hard to find ways around manipulating photographs to come up with the final version.

Two things I found most challenging were photographic manipulation, (which I need to continue working on) and street photography. When I met up with Eva in Brighton to do the exercise on street photography, I felt bashful about taking photographs of folk going about their business but it turned out to be quite an experience. I was amazed at some of the pictures I’d taken as we walked. When I was taking them I realised that probably other folk were doing exactly what I was doing! Then few days later I was waiting for a friend in Brighton station and, to fill time, I started to look for images I might take & got pictures I was really happy with: some fun, some emotional and some of no use to me at all.

The course has taught me so much about how to set up my photograph, colour and finding a background for shooting a photograph etc. I was particularly pleased with some of the train posters in Brighton station which showed happy, well coiffured, youngsters gaily setting out on an adventure - in considerable contrast to the travellers actually on the platform but, set against the posters, made for much more interesting a pictures.

Eva, through her supportive teaching, has encouraged me to look at portraits differently & given me interesting ways to take portraits and the courage to get away from the conventional photograph. I probably see life and life’s experiences through pictures rather than through words and the course has brightened up my ability to express myself in the ways I see the world.

I now have compendium of photographs covering the various aspects of portraiture I’ve produced under Eva’s tutelage along with her knowledgeable and informative notes to back up each form of portraiture. I will be out taking more portraits to add to each group which will help me see how my photography develops,

I’ve asked Eva if I may continue taking lessons with her to encourage and develop what I’ve learned - it’s been so stimulating and fun and I do want to build up an even better portfolio.

I have taken on a short photography course with Eva quite a few years ago though I still do have fond memories of the classes and the group we had. Majority of the people in the group had no professional photography experience like myself, nevertheless in each class Eva taught us something new and encouraged to discover our unique style. I loved an open and non-judgmental space Eva creates during her teaching, always advising how to improve a technical skill and never let go of experimentation.

I would highly recommend Eva’s classes to anyone who is passionate about photography.

Back in 2010 I did one of her courses in Abstract Photography. It was really good fun and she was an excellent teacher. The course also led to the class exhibiting at the Brighton Photo Biennial.

I had wanted to do a beginners photography class for a long time and discovered Eva by chance, and I am so happy that I did! It was so much more than just learning the fundamentals, using her coaching skills she made photography come alive for me. Eva gives you the confidence to find your style and understand what you are trying to achieve behind the camera. She is very patient and makes sure you always leave a class with a good understanding of how you can improve. So, if you want to learn how to take your camera off automatic mode or learn new skills I would recommend Eva in a heartbeat.

The 1-1 course has helped me to develop further my personal skills and Eva has guided me to find out what I want to achieve in my photography journey.
I felt more confident and I went on to work with Eva again, she has helped me to further develop some of my ideas into a project. I am still currently working on it and hoping to have an exhibition in the near future.

I've taken various photography courses; my main memory of Eva's course was that there was real depth to it (which really stayed with me & the way I took photos afterwards). I felt into things more & have found that to be priceless. Eva has much wisdom to share, along with being a wonderful guide when help is needed. Would greatly recommend.

I read about Evolution in Brighton and Eva’s workshops. I did an abstract photography workshop and really learnt a lot and enjoyed it. After that I did several short course with Eva on different types of photography. These changed my perspective on the subject, and were amazing. Completely broadening my photography horizons. Eva is great to work with as well as extremely knowledgeable on the subject. My photography is on a totally new level since working with Eva, now it’s much richer photographic experience.

I have done a couple of photography courses with Eva and they have been excellent. My first was a look at Abstraction / Abstract photography and it really opened my eyes to different ways of seeing, different photographic and compositional techniques and so on. This is a really great topic to do with Eva in particular. I also did a course around preparing a photographic project for exhibition, the work was exhibited at the end of the course at Phoenx Arts. This was a well constructed course and pushed all of the students including myself to really go deep into the concept of the project and create artists statements and organise the presentation of the work. Eva is a true artist and an inspiring teacher if you get a chance to do a course with her, dont hesitate

I highly recommend Bright On Photography, Eva’s classes were really important in giving me the confidence to develop my skills. I came to her with some knowledge of composition but little technical know how and I have now done two of her very enjoyable courses. She is an empathetic and generous teacher. What I find particularly impressive is that she is able to make accessible the technical aspects of photography through creative artistic tasks for people at different levels in a group. Her courses are very well organised and it’s clear she is an expert in her field. Her feedback on my work was always easy to understand, helped me improve and I still consider things she said to me when I make images now.
