We had an appointment for our Gas…

We had an appointment for our Gas Safety check as the previous check missed a number of items off. The appointment was made for us by our landlord, who is amazing. The first appointment was for 17th March which was bought forward to this afternoon due to an emergency arising where we had no hot water due to contamination of our header tank from a dead squirrel being in the cold water feeder tank to the hot water tank. The engineer telephoned us and after discussing and getting feedback on the hot water contamination issue then failed to turn up for the original appointment anyway without any further notification.

So, we have waited in for 6 hours only to find out they aren't coming anyway.

What's going on?

Left a 83 year old lady with no heating in winter

I have a few properties insured through British gas. One property i have, the boiler was serviced around 3 months ago. The tenant contacted me today to say the boiler was leaking and she had no heating or hot water. I contacted British gas and was told the boiler is obsolete and when the service was done the engineer noted, "unable to get parts" even though it didn't require any parts at the time. I never heard anything else about it but apparently British gas took it upon themselves to downgrade the policy and just cover pipes and servicing. I was never informed of this and feel absolutely disgusted that they will actually leave a 93 year old lady with no heating. If I would have been notified I would have taken action on this. In fact I am sure this is illegal. I have managed to get an engineer out on Mond from elsewhere to fit a new boiler and asked the tenant to get a couple of heaters. I have been told British gas encourage their engineers to put this if the boiler are getting old as they don't want to cover the risk of covering costs. Appauling behaviour.

NO LANDLORDS GAS SAFETY CERTIFICATE

Been trying to get a Landlords Gas Safety Certificate to comply with Regulations. They have visited the property twice. The first time they didn't inspect the Gas Fire. Agents won't accept Gas Safety Certificate without all three appliances on it Boiler, Gas Hob and Gas Fire. They went back again included the Gas Fire but it is impossible to get a New Gas Safety Certificate to include all three items.

Contacted on Chat said they would send the Certificate. Didn't come.

Contacted through Trust Pilot - Said for me to contact through Facebook or X which I do not use. Contacted again through Trust Pilot said if I cannot use the Platforms suggested to use their Chat Box that's already been a waste of time as they sent the wrong paperwork through.

About as bad as it gets

About as bad as it gets, absolute robbers.

Getting through to their support line is almost impossible and will take a long time. They will not admit to making any errors, even when their engineer has caused the problems.

Any issue will take an age to fix or get the parts, in the end I had a local plumber to fix the problem that same day at my cost.

If the part is even slightly expensive they will say the boiler is a right-off, not economic to fix, and will present an astronomical quote for a new one.

The Gas Safety Certificate and Service doesn’t actually involve a service, my tenant watched him and he did nothing other than issue the certificate. Without sufficient checks, this boiler could have been left unsafe. If it wasn’t for my Carbon Monoxide alarms, I would not know that the boiler was dangerous.

The help desk do not care, they were happy to leave my tenants, who had young children, without heating or hot water.

Not reliable, expensive and will not help you when you need them. Better to have a good relationship with your local installer and put aside the money you would have given to British Gas to resolve any future problems.

BG are awful, awful people.

All Positive

Had to call them for an electrical/plumbing issue.
Very impressed with the phone service, sent a workman the next morning who sorted the issue and even left the tenant a contact number if the repair failed.
