I had a terrible experience with both…

I had a terrible experience with both the service and the aftercare at this branch. After a flat tire, the breakdown service took two hours only to tell me the car couldn't be fixed that day. The Salzburg office instructed me to take a taxi, explicitly promising that all expenses would be covered.
Despite the branch manager personally confirming I would be reimbursed when I handed in my receipts, it has been two months of silence. They released my holding deposit but have ignored every single email regarding my out-of-pocket taxi expenses. My holiday was disrupted, and now I’m being ignored. Save yourself the stress and book elsewhere

Better experience than the office next door

Had initially booked a car with Europcar next door. This booking was refused due to a small difference between names on passport and Visa leaving me 200 Euro down!
The girl at the desk at Buchbinder had no issue finding us a car that fit our needs just fine and the whole thing was processed in minutes and we were out the door. There were also no issues at return. She was of course just doing her job, but it was all in all exactly what you would hope for.

Charged €800 after car was inspected and told OK

I returned the car, had it inspected and was told it was OK. Afterwards, our credit card was charged €800 for a small scuff/scratch to the underside of the front valence which (on seeing the photo) should have cost a maximum of perhaps €200-400 to fix (as it was a small, discreet area). Buchbinder refused to reconsider the charge. Will not use them again.

Ridiculous extra fees

Buchbinder "closes" it's rental office at 4pm on weekdays - a ridiculous time, especially as the Ryanair flight from London arrives at 4.30pm most days. They do this (unlike other normal car hire companies) so they can charge you another €50 Euros for out of office hours fee. It's a rip off. There were plenty of us queueing for cars so they must make a packet.
Also, my voucher said that I would be charged €10 for driving to Germany. At the office they told me that this would be €20 because it was double if you booked that at the office. Ridiculous again. I am appealing to the broker - VIP Cars - who should have been better informed.
The car was a SEAT Ibiza - not the best "economy car" I've ever had.
Staff were polite enough and return was ok. But company policies are sketchy.
Avoid Buchbinder in Austria.

Should trust other people's review.

Before booking, I found a lot of negative reviews on the web, but I still want a try. Book a BMW 3 from EconomhCarRentals, while arrived at Vienna rental location, they gave me Audi A5 Sprotsback and ask 190Euro more, I had no choice but paid 190 more (my rental included 1 additional driver, winter tire and tax, but they charge me again although I present the vochure)
. What a shame. The car was the highest mileage car I have ever rented. Lots of dents and scratches. Would not rent a car from this company again.

Economy car rentals contacted Buchbinder for the case regarding this case, finally I got 106 euro back.
One more star added for the correction of my rental.

Unbelievably poor standard of customer…

Unbelievably poor standard of customer service. The car we were rented had a badly worn clutch that completely stopped working three days into the rental. Customer Service on the "emergency" number told us we would be phoned back by the breakdown service. After 3 hours, still no-one had phoned back. It took half an hour to reconnect with Customer Service who then forwarded the call six times, but no-one was able to assist or explain the failure to assist. We then called the rental office itself in Innsbruck who fortunately were able to arrange a pick up of the broken down car after a further 3 hours wait. After the car was picked up, no further assistance was provided apart from the offer to refund the cost of a train ticket to Salzburg. After a further week, we had received no car rental refund or commiserations over a spoilt holiday in Austria and the Bavarian Alps, or indeed any written communication of any kind regarding how this unfortunate incident would be handled/rectified by the company. I sought to submit a formal complaint to the company, but no-one I spoke to in Customer Service knew of the existence of any such procedure.
