Very disappointing experience with bunk…
Very disappointing experience with bunk during our Scotland trip.
We rented a campervan for a family trip with children, but unfortunately the vehicle had multiple issues throughout the journey:
* unreliable heating and hot water system,
* ongoing gas problems,
* defective electrical socket,
* leaking shower/siphon,
* and ultimately we had to return the vehicle one day early because the situation became too uncomfortable.
Because of the heating issues, we were forced to book campsites every night just to have access to electricity and basic comfort, generating significant additional costs.
All of these problems were acknowledged on site when we returned the vehicle.
The most disappointing part, however, has been the customer support. Despite several emails and assurances that the case had been escalated, we have now been waiting a long time without any concrete resolution or compensation proposal.
We are simply asking for fair customer service and a proper resolution.
And ofc they do refund my caution
Very disappointing experience.
Very disappointing experience.
I paid £420 for the Value Pack because it was advertised as the most complete option, especially regarding support and roadside assistance. Unfortunately, the reality was completely different.
During my trip, one of the van windows became stuck open while cooking. I immediately contacted support and spent hours trying to get help, making more than 10 phone calls starting around 7:30 PM. What became very clear through those calls is that the advertised “24/7 roadside assistance” is misleading. The assistance only applies to mechanical breakdowns. For anything else, there is no actual roadside support, only phone calls, videos, and basic troubleshooting.
Despite being stuck in bad weather with an open window, no one came to assist, no solution was provided that night, and I was simply told to wait until the office opened the next day. I had to spend the night with the window open, with water entering the van, and I lost two full days of my trip because I could not move the vehicle until the issue was resolved.
What makes this even worse is that the final “solution” was not that the issue was fixed by the company. I was ultimately told to force and break the window and continue my trip across Scotland with a broken window. That was apparently the best support available after paying extra for the highest level package.
On top of this, the toilet chemicals included in my package were never provided, and I am still owed around £50 for that. Despite this, I was later charged £140 because the toilet was allegedly not clean enough.
It has now been more than 15 days since I formally contacted customer service. I received one initial response saying the case would be reviewed, and since then there has been complete silence.
At this point, we are talking about £420 for a Value Pack that did not deliver the promised services, money still owed for missing products, and additional unfair charges.
Very poor customer service, misleading advertising, and no accountability after the trip ended.
Still waiting for my money back
We booked a reservation for a campervan in Edinburgh.
Upon arrival, we experienced a DELAY of FOUR AND A HALF hours before being provided with a vehicle. Additionally, the vehicle we were given was not the one we had originally booked.
Furthermore, prior to the rental, we paid £20 for AdBlue. However, we were later informed that this was not required for the type of vehicle we received and it was not provided. We were assured at the time that this amount would be refunded.
It has now been more than a month, and we have yet to receive the £20 refund.
The motorhome itself was not bad at all but the extremely long waiting and the fact that they still have to pay me £20 and they are not answering my mails... Really bad organisation

Broken down; feeling unsupported.
Currently in the middle of a break down just outside Inverness. When speaking with Bunk Campers so far they have been entirely focused on motorhome recovery and completely surprised when we ask what happens to us and e.g. a replacement motorhome. Of 3 different agents spoken to none has offered any reassurance; onward holiday options, or; any run through of options that they can help with in terms of resolving the issue.
Now 16 hours at the roadside, we still haven’t been a) recovered (precious little help from Bunk there, all down to us to coordinate), b) given a direct dial phone number for the Edinburgh branch (our hire location) to ascertain what happens in terms of our hire contract and vehicle collection if we are unable to return it ourselves.
There appears to be no dedicated Bunk Campers breakdown team with experience dealing with these situations, only some poor soul on-call in Belfast.
In our case, the motorhome we hired was a Fiat. Since it was in warranty Bunk policy is that *you* therefore phone *Italy* to request breakdown assistance. This is subcontracted to Stellantis UK, who in turn subcontract to Allianz. Bunk have so far been quite unwilling and/or unable to liaise with any of these companies to coordinate getting their own motorhome back. We have unwittingly become unpaid recovery coordination agents.
Fingers crossed this gets resolved and we a) get home at some point with all our worldly belongings, b) don’t lose our substantial deposit, c) don’t get fined for any recovery related issues. Time will tell…

We had a great trip to Scotland with Bunk Campers and were very satisfied overall. The service was excellent and everything worked smoothly.
There was one small issue when refilling the gas — the technical hotline was unfortunately not very helpful in that situation. However, aside from that, everything else was perfect.
Pickup and return were quick and easy, and the staff were friendly and professional. All in all, we were very happy with our experience and would definitely recommend Bunk Campers.

Great véhicule but information not good with the assistances (battery) 3 times and 1h30 on Phone and we could have some serious problème outside. No heat inside for half trip, around 0 degrés outside and they juste say... "ooh we offer you an 10% on the futur trip with us..." définition of a joke

How bad can a camper and the communication to rental station be?
Here an unanswered Mail to Bunk -> Apollo Camper in Edinburgh:
"+ + + Important and urgent: Broken key and other things, VVA181354-1 + + +"
Unfortunately, I'm still waiting for a response from you.
Nevertheless, I'm writing you this email to point out the defects the rented motorhome has had since we took it over on August 4th. These are the following:
Cabin door entry:
hangs downwards on the right, the lock at the bottom doesn't hook properly inside;
Exterior door catch defective;
Trash can wobbles and sits too low, making it difficult to close the door (a special screw is missing on the right side);
Exterior hatches:
all locks are very clunky and can only be opened/closed after several attempts; using WD40 has now made things a little easier. More common;
Fresh water tank cap defective, cannot be locked at all, the key broke off on the first attempt to unlock it;
Front bed guide rail, 1 screw missing;
Rear bed guide rail, 2 screws missing, and the bed wobbles heavily;
Water pump creaks very loudly when using hot water, and the wall under the sink vibrates heavily, even running for 5 seconds;
Sink drain is permanently clogged; constant use of a plunger (provided by the rental company) is necessary to empty the sink water;
Drawer under sink: sagging to one side;
Refrigerator on the inside right is rusted;
Headliner above the rear drop-down bed has many indentations;
Table on the bench has been wobbling heavily since Tuesday; fix the cause by repairing it myself;
Smoke detector: battery dead

Edinburgh
John in Edinburgh was very pleasant and helpful, both upon pickup and drop-off. Loved his Christmas hat!
Great off-hours support (9:30 pm on a Wednesday night) when our heater wouldn't work (there was a recurring issue with the window contact above the heater exhaust valve that resulted in the heater shutting off repetitively during the trip.)

First time users - highly recommend!
First time traveling in a camper van on our own and it was the most amazing experience. Bunk Campers really made it easy from booking and paying online, friendly and thorough service when picking up, and fast return process at the end. We would rent from them again.

I booked about seven months in advance
I booked about seven months in advance. The most important thing for me was four proper sleeping berths (we are all taller than 1.78 meters). A few weeks before our trip, I received a message that the campervan was no longer available. However, I was told I would receive a newer but equivalent one (I even called ahead). Unfortunately, this one would cost a bit more – which I paid. Upon arrival, we then discovered that we had been given a model without an alcove. BunkerCamps offered no compensation whatsoever; we even had to pay extra for small things like leveling blocks.
It felt like a rip-off.

I reserved a specific camper but...
I reserved a specific camper. At the time of reservation, I turned down a 20% discount if I accepted any camper of the right size, because I wanted a specific configuration (my wife and I didn't want to climb on a ladder, bad knees). When I arrived, I was given a warm "I'm so sorry" standing for "I don't care". After rental I asked to get the 20% back and also didn't get it. Didn't even get a response, an apology or anything. My advice is, take the 20% and cut the company's margin, because they will give you what they want.

We booked an Aero Plus and got…
We booked an Aero Plus and got allocated an Apollo - Duo Plus or equivalent which was much smaller and less comfortable. We had an Aero Plus the previous year from Bunk Campers in the Greater London area and had been very happy traveling in that. The van had not been fully serviced and checked before we got it. Toilet cassette and grey water had not been emptied. On board water had also not been checked. I contracted salmonella while on the trip from the onboard water supply. It can only have come from the van water. This was good for post holiday weight loss but not great for the 27 hour flight home. When I complained about this through or travel agent, we got a $230.00 refund from a near $8000.00 fee, we had the van for 2 weeks (appx). We had been a little delayed due to flights being delayed which meant that the staff were late leaving for the day. When you are in a public facing job in the tourism industry your staff need to be a whole lot more accommodating. Not to impressed with the customer service and the refund. Will have to look at alternative rentals if we travel to the UK again.
Reply to Bunks response:
We organised with our travel agent to book with Bunk Campers in late November 2024. I would have thought that this was sufficent time to get our requested van reserved. Not sure how much notice they believe they need. Even if we had requested a change to the van it surely wouldn't have made any difference. Just seems like a lot of excuses trying to explain away a some what negative review.
