Corked wine

We visited this shop in June on a visit to Yorkshire and tasted several wines, which we purchased, including an expensive bottle of Vouvray Clos de la Meslerie, which was suggested to us by the shop. When we opened it recently it tasted off and totally different to the bottle we had tasted. The shop said they couldn't just take our word as we might have decided we didn't like the wine and so we had to send the bottle and cork back (from Dorset) and the cork definitely smelled off when I recorked the bottle.
They took several days to get back following delivery because the owner was away and they then said they couldn't find anything wrong with the wine and would not make any refund. Having spent almost £150 there and having enjoyed our other purchases, and paid for the additional postage I was frankly unimpressed with their point blank refusal to brook any argument. I was even less impressed that they couldn't tell the difference between a good bottle of the same wine and a bad one. Buyer beware - there are plenty of reputable wine merchants about, you don't need to risk a similarly bad experience by buying from Buonvino.

Started well, ended dreadfully - rude man!

Lovely little shop next to an amazing cheese place. Unfortunately the owner is patronising and rude. We visited after lunching and buying cheese at The Courtyard Dairy - 5*). We purchased approx £90 + on wine, a mixture. One of the Orange wines was ‘foul’ on opening, the smell was dreadful and the taste was worse. We rang the shop around 4/5 days after to let them know and return the bottle (only a glass taken out). I was told that the lady’s husband would need to call me back which he did very quickly. He suggested that the wine was ‘not to our taste’. I stressed that it was foul but he said all he could do is if we returned to the shop and purchased another £90+ of wine, he would give us a discount relative to the cost of the bottle I purchased! I was patronised, mansplained, I cannot believe how rude he was, he talked over me. I am so disappointed as our first impression was good but this was just awful. Not sure where he got his customer service ideas from?

A fantastic list of small to medium Italian wine producers.

The world of wine is a minefield. My wife and I are both wine lovers (but with price constraints). We may be able (or willing) to spend more than some and no doubt spend a great deal less than others. What we do know is (cliché alert) what we like. So when we were running low on my wife’s favourite bottle (and discovering our previous supplier had removed it from their list) I surfed around and came across Buon Vino.
The wine was available and at a price that was slightly less than I paid from our previous supplier (a couple of years ago). After popping a case into our virtual basket, I looked at the other Italian wines available. I was mightily impressed. So I ordered a mixed case of other Italian favourites as well. I was happy with the price paid for all my choices.
The email tracking of the order was excellent, timescales swift. Delivery (via APC) was perfect and the bottles are now nestling in my “cellar” (under the stairs).
What’s not to like?

Poor service

Upon recommendation bought a selection of wines for Christmas period. On the day we visited there were no tastings. Bought a selection on recommendation by the wine expert. Opened a bottle last night and we were convinced it was corked. The smell and flavour were distinctly off even though it had been opened to breathe. Returned the bottle today and was asked to leave it as the lady said her wine expert ( husband) would need to taste it. Drove home (20 mins) and got a phone call. I found the wine expert (owner/ husband) very patronising and condescending as he assured me the wine was fine and that it wasn’t a cheap wine from a local supermarket, but an expensive earthy wine. He offered to drop the bottle off and that we try it again with a better food pairing. However, the wine was so distasteful I replied that I would happily dispose of it and he could keep it. So it appears that this was down to my ( and my husbands) poor palette. Its a bad experience, poor customer service and we won’t return ( other than to buy the fantastic cheese next door).I guess we need to work on our palettes and drink more supermarket wine!!

Great Customer Service and Speciality Wines

Great customer service. Fantastic wine and beer/spirits selection. Highly recommend using their website for online orders or stop by Settle to visit them.

Used to stop by, now use the website for ordering, over the last 5 years, it's still the best option for natural, organic, speciality wines.
