Lovely relaxed atmosphere
Lovely relaxed in an almost non commercial atmosphere, friendly helpful and willing staff. Lots of very unusual plants and trees and superb range of pines and hydrangeas. I loved it and the garden walk with the dog was a lovely added bonus
so very very poor
Do not use Burncoose Nursery - ever
Ordered 3 plants. 2 in good condition and I'm happy with them, but the other one was in dreadful condition.
I emailed a picture of the Phlox with dreadful damaged leaves.
The response was dismissive, saying the plant was probably stressed due to the dry weather.
My response was that they should not be selling plants in this condition and I would like my money back.
Same dismissive response - water and feed and it will be fine. If not in 3 weeks, let us know.
Sent a photo in 3 weeks which shows the plant is still not great. The response was, more or less, were glad its still alive.
Do NOT use this nursery. There are others that have the more unusual plants. I used them because I thought their achievements at Chelsea etc were a guarantee of quality. How wrong I was!
Lack of vital information for plant care.
Ordered several plants in the winter including a Daphne Bholua ‘Jacqueline Postil’. The plants arrived and I followed RHS guidance on location for planting (against a south facing wall). In late January the Daphne showed signs of frost damage despite there having been a minimum temperature of -2°c. I contacted the nursery with my concerns and asked if the plant had been in a polytunnel or needed more protection than its *** hardiness rating suggested. I was called by them and told that it was probably because they were in Cornwall that the plant was more tender. I protected the plant with fleece but when that failed to improve things moved it into a greenhouse. It died in mid May.
A complaint was met by the explanation that Daphnes do not like transplantation during flowering (it wasn’t) and no refund was forthcoming.
I shall not be using this nursery again as I strongly suspect they are supplying plants that are not hardened off correctly and essential care information was not given even after my initial email.
Pulmonaria
I ordered some pulmonaria blue ensign .. it arrived with every plant covered in mildew/mould - when I emailed about it I was told this wasn’t unusual and to remove infected leaves! I have done this but all new growth is infected ! Further emails to burcoose have been unanswered / no refund offered. Will never buy from them again.
Part of my order was totally…
Part of my order was totally disappointing,I ordered two 2 litre pots of Viburnam opulas, I started to plant them when they arrived.
What a disappointment, the soil was totally loose with a very small 9 cm plant that had made no roots. It had only been repotted recently. This was not the plant quality I expected.
Their response was that I could send one back, and because I had taken the other out of its pot half the cost was returned.
How would one know if it had been sent out in this immature way.
If the plants were not of the size on the website they should not have been sent out

Visited Cornwall from Canada in 2022
Visited Cornwall from Canada in 2022 - spouse’s home. Thoroughly enjoyed Barncoose nursery visit after a dozen plus visits to standard UK garden centres. No bar-b-ques and lawn furniture was a pleasure - a nursery person’s nursery for semi-tropicals and temperat.
What a pleasure but no Amadeus … but neither in Sussex in half a dozen garden centres - got SIL that near Penz. in a hidden in the shrubbery exotics nursery.
Even gifted sister-in-law three healthy heritage and nearly modern roses from Barncoose from their limited selection - but excited to find representative's of the OGR classics - but did her favour and passed on the Canadian rugosa hybrid once bloomer named Agnes - l grow and hybridize ( amateur ) very hardy rose back in CDN.
Lucky gardeners of Cornwall to have this temperate climate professional local nursery.
Service was great and employees will engage in intelligent nursery conversation on plants, their facility, pride in their Chelsea wins and finding stock.
Update August 2023
Love this place for on-site visits, back again from Canada in August 2023 during another local relatives visit, and stay vacation in Lelant.
Left this time with 3 seed varietals of meconopsis, plus other temperate zone seeds (will be keeping company with an indoor grown ensete maurelii, Ethiopian “banana tree”) Never seen multiple variety offerings elsewhere.
Again hard working nursery yard personnel were joy to deal with. Like consistency of cordial good service.
This is like visiting a temperate zone candy store with scores of selections of mostly vigorous plants. Lost count of one type at above 20 and not counting magnolias, rhodos and azaleas.
My new favourite!!
Now my go to for online ordering. After recently ordering from several other sites which took weeks to arrive, Burncoose delivered to Fife within days of ordering, beautifully packaged and all really healthy specimens. So good when you find a firm you can trust. Thoroughly recommend!
Out of date stock list, don't rely on accuracy
Ordered two plants, both showing stock live on the website.
Could only deliver one, which is fine as errors happen.
Refused to refund the 50% proportion of the delivery charge leaving me out of pocket for one plant and now having to purchase this elsewhere.
Very short-sighted as an existing customer who will not longer be providing return business.
Ordered a Magnolia x loebneri Wildcat…
Ordered a Magnolia x loebneri Wildcat and payed a lot of money and all it was a four foot trig and no branches
Superb advice and service
Superb advice and service. My 17 shrubs arrived very quickly, were very well packed so no damage at all, and they are all superb quality. Thank you.
Prompt delivery
Order was placed on Wednesday and was delivered on Saturday morning. The parcel was securely packed and the small tree looked to be in excellent condition. I needed to ring the company after placing the order and the gentleman i spoke to was extremely helpful.
Poor plants, no accountability
Ordered 3 Rheum Palmatum plants in September 2022. Around £50 total. I received 3 pots, all with no foliage. The note said they'd been cut back to encourage growth. As of now 1 plant showed weak growth at best. The other 2 appear to be dead. I contacted them on their website form on 19th November asking if they'd likely grow again next year. As of 24th November I've had no response. I can deal with poor product if the vendor has the integrity to make things right. Poor product and no accountability demonstrates contempt for the customer.

THE Place to Go
I have been buying plants from Burncoose for my gravelled garden for the last three years. The quality of the produce has always been exceptional and the staff knowledgeable and so friendly. My recent experience a few months ago was to buy a Verbonum but which the other day appeared not to have lasted. On contact they suggested I scrape the bark to see if it was green underneath and if so the plant would survive. Unfortunately it wasn’t but they immediately offered a replacement in the most pleasant manner and we selected one today. They were so kind and helpful and I wouldn’t want to go elsewhere. Highly recommended.
Superb selection quality plant and service.
Have used this nursery on many occasions and have been thrilled with quality of plants and service.
Recently had a delivery that went missing and reported
this. Sally sent another plant immediately with no hassle. Cannot recommend highly enough. Brilliant
selection as well. Thanks to all the team.
A very POOR and COSTLY expereince
Spent over £500, the majority on 5 large and expensive magnolias, which where received were not very impressive compared to other companies... on top of this the plants that had also been damaged during delivery.
They promised to give a slight refund, along with replacing the plants if they did not survive.
We never received the refund, and 2 of the plants did not survive. Upon contacting them a few months later, they changed their mind and stated that they will not replace them.
Totally appalled considering the plants were sold as premium specimens at £80 each.
Be aware of the other bad reviews left for this company, we did see them, and sadly did not pay attention, and now wish we had!
Side note: The magnolias we purchased from the company 'Mail Order Trees' were 1000x better and more impressive, and better priced!
Excellent mail order plant nursery.
Very easy online ordering service and quick and efficient delivery. The packaging was safe and secure so my plant arrived in perfect condition.
Fabulous service
Fabulous service. Plants were checked out individually and pictures sent so I could make a very easy choice. The sent speedily with very reasonable delivery rates. Excellent.
My favourite nursery
I have just recieved another beautifully packaged order from Burncoose Nurseries. They really are my favourite nursery to buy plants from online. A little expensive, but worth it. Quality plants, extensive range and good turn around time - even in spring.
I can usually get through on the phone too, there are not many places left you can actually call and speak to a person!
Hydrangeas
I had issue with 2 hydrangeas which were not thriving. On contacting Burncoose I spoke to Christine .She was so obliging.I sent the photos off to her where she found that the plants were overpotted in size.Nevetheless she invited me to come down and chose replacements. She was so helpful and friendly and I am so grateful .
I will be returning to purchase more plants in due course.Thank you Christine.
