This website is great for book lovers like me. You can buy loads of books for a great price and the customer service is very good, I have received very prompt responses.
Is this website a scam? NO! I do not understand where all the other reviews are coming from. When you go on the website there is a pop up box explaining the membership and a banner on the home page. When you select a book to add to your cart, there are two price options which are labeled 'member price' or 'normal price'. If you are unsure of what being a member means, surely you would click on the FAQs and read about what it entails? The irony of people going to buy a book and not being able to read...
I cannot stress this enough, this website is not a scam and does not deserve their low score. I have personally made four very large orders, at least 20 books per order, and each order arrived well packaged with the books all in great condition, as you would expect. It is also extremely easy to cancel your membership if you want to take a break from buying books :)
Are they perfect? No. If something is out of stock, they do try to source it but this means your whole order is delayed. This is less than ideal however after speaking to customer services, it seems they a) are trying to address this and b) they will remove that particular book and refund you if that is what you want.
Overall a fantastic website and one I recommend to all my fellow book lovers!

Scammers. Bought one book online and they created an account and set me up for a monthly subscription which only caught 2 months later, as there was no email to confirm they had done this. No doubt there was some tick box on my original purchase I missed, and no doubt they would say if I had logged in I could have cancelled it anytime - but if you don't know you even had an account how is that fair.

You can always cancel your membership when you no longer want it. There is no binding after the first month.

Actively misleading customers
Very misleading company - deceives customers by saying books are available to ship in 1-3 days when they aren't. AVOID! I ordered a book from Buuks for a Christmas present - most other retailers had sold out of it but Buuks said it is available in 1-3 days. I heard nothing from them for a week and when I chased up they said it was out of stock. After pointing out that this is misleading - especially in the lead up to Xmas when most retailers flag up last shipping dates - they didn't seek to notify other consumers it had sold out. Weeks later they still promote the book as available in 1-3 days and it's out of stock. I have asked them to flag this up and they don't recognise why this is wrong or misleading. I wish I had read all the reviews about this dodgy company before falling for their misleading website

Absolutely diabolical.
I bought a book from them last year via mobile (which is conveniently unclear about the membership).
Here's where it gets interesting: Buuks makes sure you only receive the book 2 weeks after you ordered it, but if you want to cancel your membership you have to do it within two weeks of ordering.
Luckily my bank was on it, they reversed the charges and cancelled my debit card, but I was due to go away and having no debit card raised a whole slew of issues for me (thanks Buuks!).
They are without a doubt conniving - using subterfuge to build their business on the back of nebulous small print and unwitting tech-challenged customers.
If they were truly as legitimate as they claim, they'd provide a receipt upon purchase that fully outlines the membership advantages (like any honest business would).
Moreover, any membership in the 21st century includes regular newsletters or emails to their member base - none of which Buuks adheres to of course, because doing so would contravene their unethical business model.
And one last thing: ignore the fake 5-star reviews, because anyone with a brain would realise they're unable to delete reviews, and have no choice but to post their own in an attempt to mitigate their impact.
Absolute disgrace of a business -especially in these tough economic times.
PLEASE DON'T USE THEM! There are plenty of decent online bookstores that don't do business this way.

There is a 14 day right of withdrawal on the membership, which starts the day you make your purchase at the membership price. Within the 14 days, you must have given notice of you wish to return and you must send the order back to be refunded for the membership - This is also outlined in the membership terms, which you have actively accepted before the purchase could go through at the member price.
We send newsletters to customers who wish to receive our newsletters. You can sign up for this inside the website and when you complete your purchase.
If you would like receipts for your membership, these can be found on the website when you log into your customer center, or you can contact us at info@buuks.co.uk and we can send them to your email.

They are scammers! For over a year they were charging me for a subscription I never agreed to! Don’t buy anything from them as automatically they are charging you on a subscription and they never email you any receipt! Stay away! As you can see there are many people with the same opinion, being victims like me which means that the company is doing what it’s doing very well to misguide and charge for that membership!

I bought one book and was signed up for a membership costing £15 per month without my consent. According to an article in the guardian, customers using mobile devices aren't shown the information about automatic membership, which is done when you make a purchase. In short, a BS operation.

I am very sorry to hear that you feel cheated into our membership, but as it is stated all the way through our website we are a members club. This means you have to choose between one of the two prices offered; either our members price or our normal price.
As we state all the way through our website, we are a members club, and by choosing our members price it is required for you to sign up for our membership. This information is handed to you from the start to the very end. When you come to our website you are welcomed with a pop-up window telling you all this, as well on the front page on a banner, each of our products, on the product page, in your basket, when finishing the purchase. Before you even can complete the purchase you have at the very end the requirement to accept the membership conditions in order to finish your purchase. Hereafter you receive a confirmation of both your order and membership.
Although our normal price is a fine price our members price gets you the exclusive access to our cost prices and gives you free shipping with every order you may place, which blows other companies prices out of the way as you get the unique opportunity to make great savings.
The choice is all yours.
You do of course need to take into consideration of what information is handed before making a purchase.

Ordered book on 22nd Dec arrived 29th no issues
Ordered book on 22nd Dec from Buuk cost £28 inc free postage. When ordering had choice of 2 prices and had to tick one. One price was similar to other online retailers -book price between £23 and £30 -Waterstones, Amazon etc (Amazon were out of stock), and one substantially lower price around £15 which said members price. Clicked on normal price as Im not a member and assumed this would involve signing up for something. Payment went through straight away. Got a confirmed purchase email and a UPS tracking number next day in email. Followed that tracking number and it was out for delivery and arrived today. No fuss at all. Book beautiful. After reading the reviews of Buuk after Id ordered, I was a bit worried so after it arrived today with no issues I wanted to write a positive review. I think reading the reviews people have been caught out as maybe its not as clear as it should be. I didnt find it unclear. You just have to make sure you dont click the cheaper members price when ordering and tick the usual priced one.

Absolute disgrace of a company
This company is predatory and an absolute disgrace. I've ended up being charge £36.49 for a £6.49 book. All because they didn't make clear the fine print on their website. When I emailed them complaining they basically said "sorry you didn't read the rules."
They know exactly what they're doing anf it's praying on the uninformed and those who aren't tech savvy. Avoid this company like the plague.

SCAM...please do not use this company
There is no doubt this is a scam but a well worked one where the company manages to hide their subscription charge well enough that most people do not know they are signing up. There have been thousands of complaints against this company but still they are trading!!!
Their answer to comments are always something like "Ooh we can't find you in our system". Which is not really what everyone is complaining about.
But I guess they are unlikely to say that they have hit upon a hugely unethical way of doing business but seemingly is just about legal and won't change as their whole business model is based on hiding the "membership" charges so that customers unwittingly get signed up to pay each month
It is just up to people to complain to Trading Standards etc to try to stop the company getting away with this.
