I paid my British Gas electric bills every month by automatic direct debit, when I was with them, some years ago. This company sent me a letter, saying that I owe over £1,200, using a made-up Bri... See more

A £4,000 British Gas ‘debt’ that wasn't mine
BW Legal tried to push a British Gas bill of almost £4,000 onto my small freelance business – for a residential address I’d never heard of, in a city I have no links to. No proof, of course. My company owns no property, leases no property, develops no property, and has never been a British Gas customer. BW Legal could ONLY have lifted my company's name and registered address from its public listing at Companies House.
A well-aimed letter from my own solicitor (£132) eventually silenced them, but I resent the expense, time and trouble I’ve been put to over a matter that, from the outset, clearly had nothing to do with me or my company.

BW legal have persued a elderly vulnerable disabled friend of mine for under £29.90 for energy used after she sold her house . despite sending many letters , some by special delivery , employing a solicitor to explain that she no longer owned the house , sent smart meter final readings sent . they continue relentlessly to persue this poor person. Its unbelievably cruel and stupid that they simply will not listen to evidence
When a solicitors is not a solicitor - the tale of a greedy woman.
This so called solicitors owned and run by a greedy woman called Withers, not actually a solicitor herself, brings the legal profession into disrepute by agreeing to take thousands of cases from debt purchasers, that they don't actually have the capacity to manage properly, sending out hundreds of template letters an hour, then not responding to queries or incoming correspondence for months. Complain to the debt owner if you can that they are being mugged off by Withers etc. They will be able to arrange a payment plan for you without these clowns anyway.

Clueless “Paralegals” of the lowest grade.
Barely scraped thru Uni to now try and assert pressure on people but unfortunately for them, don’t realise that the average normal citizen is more clued up on law than they are.
Laugh at these fools, and anyone associated/involved with someone who works for this firm, id question who you’re actually involved with and what their morals are.

BW Legal hide behind fancy legal threats to illegally harass people for money they have already paid
BW Legal purchased a tiny debt, less than £100, which I disputed five years ago with Sky (their problem being with their courier, not me) BW Legal pursued harrassed bullied and threatened me (depsite my multiple responses to explain the situation) and then issed a county court claim, adding on their financial costs. In order to stop the stress, I paid the disputed debt plus the court fee but did not pay their financial cost. I received confirmation from both the Court and BW Legal accepting same. One month later I receive a new letter saying I still owed them £50 for their services or they would re-instate the county court action. It is bad enough I gave in and paid the debt I know is not mine, but they area again pursing, harassing and threatening over £50 which they chose to incur by using the court system. They are a disgrace to the so called justice system.

Provided proof I didn’t live at the address at the time that Scottish power are billing me for. Refused to accept 4 different forms of proof.
Rude CSR
Told them to take me to court so an independent judge can rule, ignored. Now harassment.
Joke of a company
Pretend lawyers
Name suggests legal authority but just the usual debt collection agency which churns out letters with threats of action even though they have no way to enforce, i have asked numerous times for a court date so i can defend my self in a so called free society to no avail
CHECK YOUR ACCOUNTS don't be told by BW…
CHECK YOUR ACCOUNTS don't be told by BW you owe them money. Check your accounts and don't do it via them. it's a scam and they look for outstanding balances to try and enforce and add fees on to. they said i owed British Gas money and it got threatening abut them escalating it. checked my account is i paid view the British Gas website.
Pretending to be a "legal company" and clearly not.
Pretending to be a "legal company" with clearly no legal expertise at all. After 3 harassing text messages I submitted a request for information by on line chat as well as via the website. As I had never received a PCN I could not set up the account as I could not complete the form without a PCN. Finally got through to someone whose accent was so difficult to understand I gave up. Anyway they will apparently email me. As I am in `Hong Kong now and elder harassment is a serious crime in Hong Kong and it is BWLegal doing the harassing, they will be visited by the relevant department. WASTE OF SPACE COMPANY trying to get a few quid from elders.

Rude and unhelpful
Received a letter out of the blue about a supposed debt with British Gas, contacted them and asked what the debt was for? Very unhelpful and rude customer service lady refused to provide details and just kept telling me to contact British Gas and I would be taken to court if I didn't pay the supposed debt, asked for proof of assignment - this was also refused.
Contacted British Gas who confirmed no debt was owed and promptly recalled the debt from BW Legal
My advice? Don't pay BW Legal, don't even engage with them until you've spoken to whoever they say you owe money to. Every interaction I had with them was unprofessional.
For reference, this review replaces the one BW Legal got removed from Trust pilot - here's a tip BW Legal - if you don't like reviews about your practices and service....improve them, treat people with a bit of respect and dignity. You get bad reviews because your service is atrocious
Trustpilot has taken down my original…
Trustpilot has taken down my original review as they do not think it is true.
Well it is. My flatmate was sent a threatening letter from BWLegal saying she owed money to an energy company.
They gave no previous address, date of tenure. They had even given a wrong date of birth.
She had never been with that energy company and paid her bill when she left her last address. BWLegal has said she has to prove the bill is not hers.
I recommended she contact her MP which she has done and given them all the documentation. Trustpilot, read other reviews and see how this awful company operates.
Not Fit For Purpose
BW Legal has been bullying me and harassing me for £49.00 that I allegedly owe to British Gas.
The problem being, I have never been a customer of British Gas.
I’ve explained this to them multiple times over the past 2-3 years but they seem to be too incompetent & thick to understand this basic fact.
They just persist in chipping away at me. It’s harassment.
They e-mail me from a Non-reply e-Mail address so I can’t reply, I have tried to phone them tens of times, but I can’t get past security to talk to one of their muppets phone operators. So what???
Yet they persist in harassing me. BW Legal clearly are a Not fit for purpose circus, just look at their reviews.
Duplicate payments
Apparently my son and I have been paying a 60.00 fine for the same thing... (Which was disputed for ages but gave up arguing with them & arranged for the 60.00 to be paid) I set up arrangement to have 20.00 a month to be taken from my account on behalf of my son .. then they sent messages to my son saying it had not been paid so in a panic he paid it ... Now they say They can't trace my payments (even though I sent through screen shots of my payments & my sons) Going round in circles.... Awful people yo deal with
I am not paying a sky bill for many…
I am not paying a sky bill for many reasons my account was either hacked or sky messed up big time I have proof of sky's mistakes and no way am I paying them long story short cc debt collectors was involved and basically agreed with me gave me a month to try and sort it out with sky then I received a letter from bwlegal they have obviously taken over the debt any advice please as I will not be paying anything to sky I have asked them to take me to court but obviously no reply from them
Blackmail and it should be illegal.
They contacted me asking me to pay a British Gas bill for a place I do not longer live in. They do not check the facts and they claimed that it was me that I need to prove I did not live there.
Also, shame on British Gas for sending my data to them when I have always paid all my bills.
Nice try BW Legal
2nd review.
BW Legal reported my perfectly legitimate review for 'illegal or harmful content". This was not upheld by Trustpilot and my review was reinstated online.
How this company is not closed down by the financial regulators I don't understand. Chasing false debts.
Never pay to these scammers
They are keep sending these letters to me, saying that I owe money to a certain energy company and I have to pay. But the funny thing is, that energy company is NOT the supplier of that adress where I used to live. And I have never been contracted to that company. Its clearly a scam. Its concerning that they managed to get my name and adress from someone. Dont pay to these suckers!
