If we could give zero stars we would

If we could give zero stars we would. We booked the West Bow apartment for the weekend of our wedding and they asked for copies of our passports 2 days before our stay. Normally we wouldn’t be carrying passports for Scotland but luckily we had them with us. This was not communicated at the time of booking. The money was taken from my account before that.
In summary, the apartment rules are not shared in full at the time of booking on booking.com and they do not share this in full until you provide the passport ID which is well after the 5 days cancellation period so you’re stuffed if you have to cancel because of the rules. Win, win for them. Money for nothing.
No-one else is allowed to enter the building other than the people who have provided ID. So do not book if you need bridal prep done or family members to come and visit. Not to stay, just to visit or pass by.
The apartment management basically stole our money for 2 nights that we couldn’t stay because of their ridiculously strict policy. They offered no help in this situation and stopped corresponding with us when we asked for a refund. If the owner reads this i’m sure he or she has no morals taking peoples hard earned money by mis selling. We will be taking this to trading standards unless we get our money back very soon. We gave the owner the chance to do the decent thing and the right thing but zero response from our last message. We have been left with no option but to take this to trading standards and we will take this to the papers as well if we don’t get our money back pronto.

shockingly bad !!!

So my partner's review was delated by Trustpilot earlier and not sure why.
Now I want to leave my review as part of the group who stayed at their property.
My partner booked this apartment for us and 2 friends luckily for one night only based on the internet photos and description. When we arrived the lovely view of the castle was exactly as described. What the Calton Living failed to mention was that every window within the property was extremely dirty so viewing the castle through them was difficult. Very unhygienic property. Dust everywhere. They are charging £85 for cleaning per stay but I think this charged is only for changing beds as nothing else is cleaned. Smell of dampness absolutely horrible. Probably why all the windows in our bedroom were opened when we arrived. Facilities very poor, shower small, floor damaged. Concrete stairs to the bedrooms with metal ending so very dangerous when used by elderly or kids. Iron unfit for purpose. Iron board dirty. Stains in wardrobe . Black clothes turned white when dropped on the floor. Bathroom full of dust and required cleaning by myself. Walls dirty with stained and covered with scratches. No TV channels available so had to watch YouTube . Shower gel containers broken so unsuitable for use. Property very used with extremely poor quality furniture. Requires renovation immediately and should be stopped for letting out unless totally refurbished and painted.i can only say that the beds are comfortable and bed linen good quality. Also kitchen well equipped but I would strongly advise anyone to think twice when using Calton Living. Customer service not existing. Staff totally unprofessional especially the man I was talking to when checking out. We didn’t want to complain on the day of arrival as it was only for 1 night and didn’t have much time to spent on calling and arguing especially after using my own time to clean the bathroom.
My partner was responsible person for this booking and he felt mortified in front of our friends who had to stay there with us. We wouldn’t stay there for free never mind paying £270 for 1 night stay.
