We are Christians Against Poverty – it’s great to meet you. Poverty is so much more than going without. It’s so much more than lacking materially. Poverty destroys lives. It robs people of joy, hope and opportunities. It tears families apart, isolates those most in need of support, and leads many to believe there is no way out. Here at CAP, we won’t settle for that. Our vision is to see transformed lives, thriving churches and an end to UK poverty.

Lovely people who care about you

Lovely people who care about you. I was referred to their Job Club via the Job Centre and although it was part of my work plan, they are not part of Reed (who hold numerous DWP contracts and are only in it for the money), some people stayed the 8 weeks and others on finding it wasn't compulsory dropped out. Warmly welcomed with a hot drink. They offered good advice, someone came and did a speak on the benefits of volunteering (something I already do and am awaiting on a 2nd company for further voluntary work). Everyone who attended was not at the beginning of the jobs market and more towards the rear, when asked what people felt was holding them back, most said age. Are they any advantages of being unemployed? I only listed housing and council tax benefits - some listed more. I had 3 interviews during the 8 weeks and on the first one, I remained behind after the group session and was given some interview tips and they kindly prayed for myself. On another session, having had 2 interviews during this period and a 3rd one. lined up, I was asked to share my advice as to how I prepared for interviews. I said that my next interview would be with my local authority, so I had been onto the council's website to find information about the department, also as the department was in a town that I wasn't familiar with - I had tested the journey, I had downloaded the job description and would be going over it, making notes in brackets. As the job was in a support centre for dementia, I would be reading up on Dementia and Alzheimer's. It was recommended that when drawing up CVs, to save them as PDF and not just as a Word document. I have noticed that more and more documents are appearing as PDF and also the Indeed website converts Word documents to PDF, when you respond to an advert and upload your CV. At the end of each session we were given another hot drink and something to eat, so that we weren't sent away hungry. To assist us with costs, they were a number of toiletries (toothpaste, shower gel, shampoo) for us to take home. I have a helpful booklet to refer back to for advice. If there's a downside it would be no laptops, so they weren't able to sit with everyone and either draw up a CV or offer advice and amend existing CVs. However, the branch I attended were hosting the Job Club for the first time, so it was a learning curve for them and us.

this agency is no good....

Initiated a DRO plan with CAP in December 2025..since then kept getting requests for further information about my situation and for documentation on pensions. on a recent call the agent kept talking abnout insolvency which I do not want.. I want debt relief. they are still dragging their feet in April which is 5 months after I initiated a "debt relief order with them. DO not approach this company!!!!!

Genuine help and care

I worked with CAP in Barnstaple for a while getting a Debt Relief Order put through and sorted. The staff are the best and communicate everything well. CAP are a lot more hands on and offer in-person meetings compared to other debt relief charities and it works really well and gives genuine human help and care.
My DRO has now been approved and I couldn't be happier, CAP gave me a fresh start in life and I couldn't have asked for a better charity.

No judgement, just help.

The help & advice received during our time of need was unbelievable. Our debt coach gave us so much support up until we became debt free. When we needed advice from CAP’s Head Office we found only support & absolutely no judgement all through our journey. It took time & patience but we finally got there. Don’t hesitate to reach out to CAP, they will be there every step of the way.

What a wonderful organisation

My partner sudddenly went into hospital and then into a care home our once manageable debts spiraled out of control Baliffs etc.....I contacted CAP as a last resort I only wish I had done it sooner....I was assigned a debt coach a fantastic lady I'm now lucky enough to call a friend, who contacted the people I owed money to and set up.an affordable repayment plan it took a good few years but I recently cancelled my direct debit to CAP as I'm officially DEBT FREE!
If you're struggling with debts I cannot recommend this fantastic Charity enough!
Thank you CAP.

Amazing people

My advisor was Sam I can’t tell you how amazing she was helped me all the way and was one of the nicest people I had met. Never judged never tried to turn my faith to hers. She helped with a taxi to work for my partner, a skip, carpets for my house, gifts at Easter and Christmas, helped with food vouchers, got me a lift by a wonderful man Ian to events held by her church. With her help and caps I was able to get a DRO and finally be able to open curtains or answer my door and phone in a very long time. A massive weight was taken off my shoulders and I couldn’t have done it without them.
