I am absolutely furious after my experience with CarFree Rental.

I collected the car in Poznań and returned it in Gdańsk. At first the price looked attractive, even with the additional cost of returning the car in a different city. Unfortunately, that turned out to be the only positive part of the whole experience.

The car was parked outside the airport, which meant a long walk just to collect it. That alone is inconvenient, but the real shock came when I saw the condition of the vehicle.

The car was already dirty when I collected it, and the fuel tank was only about ¼ full.

However, the real absurdity started when I returned the vehicle.

No one had informed me in advance about the return procedure. After parking the car, I walked to the office at the airport, where I was told that I should have called the office so someone could come to the parking area to collect the keys and inspect the car.

As a result, I had to walk office → car → office again, wasting time for absolutely no reason.

Because of their procedures and the requirement to photograph the car from every possible angle, the return process took over 40 minutes.

If I had not arrived at the airport much earlier than necessary, I could easily have missed my flight because of this chaotic and extremely inefficient process.

The most absurd part, however, was the cleaning charge.

I returned the car in exactly the same condition as I received it.
I removed all rubbish from the inside, but I did not wash the exterior because the car was already dirty when it was handed to me.

Despite this, I was forced to pay a 100 PLN cleaning fee.

On top of that, the car was given to me with ¼ tank of fuel, which makes it very difficult to return the car with exactly the same fuel level. As a gesture of goodwill, I actually returned the car with more fuel than I received.

When I pointed out to the employee that I had left around an additional ¼ tank of fuel in order to offset any potential cleaning costs, I was simply told that they were not interested and nobody asked me to add more fuel.

That is true. Nobody asked me to add more fuel.

But if the policy is to return the car in the same condition as it was received, then logically they should also refund the cost of the additional fuel I left in the vehicle.

I have photo documentation clearly showing that the car was dirty when I collected it. Unfortunately, according to the staff, this apparently does not matter because I did not purchase their cleaning service in advance.

And this is where the complete hypocrisy of their policy becomes clear.

The policy states that the car should be returned in the same condition as it was received.
However, when a customer proves that the car was dirty at collection and returns it in the same condition, suddenly that is no longer acceptable.

In practice this means the customer must return the car in better condition than it was received, otherwise they are charged additional fees.

That is not customer service.
That is a system designed to extract extra money from customers.

This entire situation left me genuinely angry and extremely disappointed.

I will never use this company again, and I strongly recommend staying away from this rental company altogether.

Really great people to deal with the are always trying to help.

They made me buy their Full Coverage Insurance - 400 PLN for 1 day for a 9 seater, much more than I paid for the rental itself - because my credit card was not Embossed letters and numbers (as most of credit cards nowadays in Europe aren't embossed).
I'm really unhappy with that car renting company. It's just a way to force the client to buy their full insurance, because of that silly thing that the credit card has flat letters and not embossed. I had no choice but to buy their insurance because I needed the car.

I've already rented plenty of cars over the world, and I never had that a car rental company require the credit card should be embossed.

We arrived and they wouldn't accept my card because it didn't have raised numbers, my debit card was the only card that had the raised numbers but they wouldn't accept because it said Debit. They would accept a regular credit card if I paid an additional $250 for their insurance. Scam. Oh then after I got back they emailed me every day asking for me to fill out their survey. Only too 24 emails before I decided warn everyone not to book them through a third party.

Very nice, professional service, easy collection and drop off.

Everything went smoothly and fast with the car pickup aswell as the return part. The car was new, clean and in excellent condition, as advertised. Really great experience overall!

My experience with the rental company has been amazing. The customer service was top notch. I got a new car (less than 1000 km driven) and the whole pickup and return process was easy and professionally handled by the representative.
